Pressure To Marry

I don't know how many of you single girls are under pressure to get married...but I am.

Pressure from family, friends and 'people' who just can't mind their own business.

The pressure is so intense right now, I feel like going to a 'husband market' (if there's any such thing) to buy myself a husband, just so I can have some breathing space. lol

Give me a break you people. I just turned 27 and people are already wondering why I'm not pregnant with my second child.

I turned down a marriage proposal two days ago, and one of the man's relation said "You think you're young enough to turn down marriage? Think you still have that much time? Sorry for you!". I wanted to, but I didn't slap her lol!

Why the hell should I consider marrying someone I can't even imagine tolerating for long. I don't even know this guy. Saw me in a newspaper and asked his sister to meet with me...I've not even gone on a freaking date with him. I look at him and I feel nothing for him. And the sister looks at me like they are doing me a favor and I should be grateful.

At 27, I'm too old to turn down someone I can't even imagine sleeping with? Lord have mercy!

Today, I was discussing the issue with another female and she said at 27, I have only two more years to go before it becomes 'late marriage and childbirth'.

According to her doctor, the best time for a woman to have her first kid is between 22-29. After that, she might have complications. Her views got me thinking "What an idiot!" lol!

I have been hearing so much about marriage in the last two weeks that if I hear it one more time, I'll go crazy.

Please don't get me wrong. I want to get married someday, who doesn't? But am I ready now? Tomorrow? Next week? Next month? Next year? I don't know.

I know I have been saying I wanna get married, blah blah, but when I really think about it, I was looking forward more to a wedding than a marriage...and there's a big difference between the two.

Am I ready to be dictated to? Ready to cook everyday I get back from work for my husband? To take care of him the way a wife is expected to care for her husband? Ready to have sex with him anytime he's in the mood? (Ok, yes I'm ready for that...lol), ready to deal with in-laws? Ready to care for a home? Ready to be a mother? Ready to put someone else into consideration before making decisions? Ready to carry all the baggage that come with marriage?

Maybe! If I find the right guy!

There's just so much marriage gives you and some things it takes away from you. If you have dreams, depending on the man, he could stifle your dreams! In essence, you have to look before you leap. When you're under pressure, you don't look, you just leap. And that same pressure keeps you in it even when you want to pack your bags and walk away.

The society tells you a woman isn't complete without being married and that same society tells you to ignore your husband's 'bad habits' because according to it, 'it's a man's world'. As long as he comes home to you...?

People marry for different reasons nowadays, and one reason I know is rampant is the need for some women to join 'the club'. And do you blame them? The society pressured them into it.

Why won't you be pressured into it when your mother wants a grandchild? When your father wants a son-in-law? When your younger sister is married? When all your classmates are married? When people keep asking you why you're not married? When the likes of Frank Edoho tell married women not to befriend anyone who isn't married? Like being single is a curse.

Why won't you start getting desperate? Even at 25, 26. And at 29, you become so desperate you start dating Tom, Dick and Harry, hoping one of them will pop the question, so the society will applaud you.

I am very ambitious. I have dreams. I want my magazine to be a force to be reckoned with one day on this continent. I'm working on a TV programme and working on starting a fashion, modeling and beauty school. So much I wanna do. I haven't even started. And yes, at one point I want a man to walk with me, someone to go home to but I have to be careful who I choose as a life partner 'cos not all men can tolerate ambitious women. They act like they are okay with it initially, but a few years down the line, they start giving ultimatums.

Marriage is beautiful I know, I'm even looking forward to it, but I also won't be made to think I'm not much of a woman because I don't have a ring on my finger. And I won't be made to believe my life is incomplete because I'm not answering a man's name.

When the time is right and I feel I've found the right person, then I will get married.

Until then, there's nothing 'the society' can do abourrit!!!!

If you want to make it your business, then you're welcome to keep counting the years for that single girl you know. All I know is that it's not how long you've been married, it's how well you married!

Seriously, there are lots of women under pressure to marry. Especially from this part of the world. What advise do you have for them?

News.

Kanye looses mum

The mother of Kanye West may have died of complications related to a surgical procedure, a coroner's official said Monday.
Preliminary information from officials at Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Center, where Donda West died Saturday, indicated she died from "complications of surgery,"
A plastic surgeon who claimed to have operated on Kanye West's mother before she died said he did nothing wrong, and that her death could have been caused by other medical problems.
Dr. Jan Adams said he performed a tummy tuck and breast reduction on Donda West, but that she might have died from a heart attack, pulmonary embolism, or massive vomiting.

Adams said West consulted with him over a period of four months, often changing her mind about the surgery.

A plastic surgeon, Dr. Andre Aboolian of Beverly Hills, said Monday that West had approached him months ago about having cosmetic surgery. He said he never performed the procedure, telling her he was worried about a pre-existing condition she had.
Aboolian told West two weeks ago that she needed to get a medical clearance before he would agree to do the surgery, said his publicist, Jo-Ann Geffen.

West, who died at age 58, on Saturday night at Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Center in Marina del Rey, was known for the strong bond she shared with her hip-hop star son. She was often seen by his side at parties and award shows, and he often spoke of his close relationship with his mother, who raised him alone after her husband left when Kanye was 3

May her soul rest in peace.

California: 5 Dead in Shooting at House
A shooting at a house on a suburban San Diego cul-de-sac left five people dead in what the authorities said could be a murder-suicide. Police officers responding to a report of shots fired on Sunday found two men and two women dead at the house in Temecula, said Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez of the Riverside County sheriff’s department. A fifth victim, a woman, died at a hospital, he said. Sergeant Gutierrez said neighbors told investigators that all five people lived at the house. The victims’ identities were not released, but all were thought to be related, he said.

Michigan: Teenagers Charged in Dismemberment
Two teenagers stabbed an adult acquaintance, took a blowtorch to his corpse and threw his severed head into a river, prosecutors said. The teenagers, Jean Pierre Orlewicz, 17, and Alexander James Letkemann, 18, ambushed 26-year-old Daniel Sorenson last Wednesday in a garage owned by Mr. Orlewicz’s grandfather, said Kym Worthy, the Wayne County prosecutor. “They prepared a space to kill him,” Ms. Worthy said at a news conference. Mr. Sorenson’s head was found Saturday in the Rouge River on the border of Detroit and Dearborn Heights, about 15 miles from where his torso was found. Not guilty pleas were entered on the teenagers’ behalf, and both were ordered held without bail.

Jokes

One of those days
As I was going down the stairs to the kitchen, I tripped and hit my head on the door frame.
My wife tried to soothe my pain and poured me a cup of coffee. It was so hot, it scalded my tongue.

I sat down at the breakfast table and put a couple of slices of bread in the toaster. When I went to take them out, I got an electric shock that made my arse quiver..........

At that moment the phone rang. It was the office to tell me we had been broken into during the night, and all the computers plus various important documents had been nicked.

I was so upset by the news that I spilled my coffee all over my lap. As a result I had to go back upstairs, wash and put on clean clothes. I decided that a cold shower would calm me down and help me regain my composure.
That proved to be the final straw.......
AAAAAAAAi!

No shopping?!?!?! A fate worse than death!
And here's the proof!

Giving up Wine I was walking down the street when I was accosted by a particularly dirty and shabby-looking homeless woman who asked me for a couple of dollars for dinner. I took out my wallet, got out ten dollars and asked, "If I give you this money, will you buy wine with it instead of dinner?" "No, I had to stop drinking years ago", the homeless woman told me. "Will you use it to go shopping instead of buying food?" I asked. "No, I don't waste time shopping," the homeless woman said. "I need to spend all my time trying to stay alive." "Will you spend this on a beauty salon instead of food?" I asked. "Are you NUTS !" replied the homeless woman. " I haven't had my hair done in 20 years!" "Well," I said, "I'm not going to give you the money. Instead, I'm going to take you out for dinner with my husband and me tonight." The homeless Woman was shocked. "Won't your husband be furious with you for doing that? I know I'm dirty, and I probably smell pretty disgusting." I said, "That's okay. It's important for him to see what a woman looks like after she has given up shopping, hair appointments, and wine."

Silly Statement?

A female told me some days ago that if you're over 25 years old, and you're sexually active and never been pregnant...then you should be scared. 'Cos it's not normal...

Is that an extremely stupid thing to say or do some of you agree with her?

What do you ladies think? Please be honest in answering.
