Gov Fashola condemns roadblock in Lagos during First Lady’s visit

What Lagos State Governor Fashola said yesterday Friday April 13th:

Lagosians were needlessly inconvenienced yesterday (Thursday). It dawned on me the need for public officers generally to be more sensitive to the people we serve.

It is particularly worrisome that this is not an elected person. I think we all must check how security agencies use the movement of high officers, especially VIPs, to disrupt citizens and taxpayers, whose money were used to fuel all the vehicles and all the apparatus that we used to block the roads against them.

It is an issue that calls for greater sensitivity. I understand the need to protect the VIPs, but it must be done in a way that it does not inconvenience anybody.

It should not get to the level that we close the roads in the state because VIPs want to pass.

If they let us know earlier, traffic can be managed and citizens here respect their leaders and they will gladly allow them to go. I don’t think they deserve to be kept on the road in a standstill for five hours.”

Nollywood director Taiwo Bello dies of cancer

The top director who co-wrote the hit movie, Jenifa, with Funke Akindele and produced and directed the 2010 movie, Omije Mi, died yesterday April 13th after being bedridden for months with cancer. Kano state finds husbands for 1000 women

Kano State Government is sponsoring a matchmaking scheme where single, divorced and widowed women can sign up to find husbands. Over a 1000 women in Kano have joined the scheme and more than twice that amount of men have applied to be given a wife.

After the couples pick each other, they will be allowed to court for just a few weeks after which they will tell the scheme organizers if they want to marry each other or not. If they agree to marry, then their names will be included in a mass wedding that will be held by the end of April 2012 and will be financed by the Kano State Govt.

But get this, after the wedding, if the man wants to back out of the marriage, the state govt will fine him N1.5m. So I guess for most of these men, this one na marriage for life! lol

Fuji Musician Obesere in car crash

 

The popular Fuji musician was involved in a car accident on Easter Sunday April 9th at Ijebu Ode, Ogun state. The self-acclaimed King of music was on his way back to Lagos from an engagement in Ogun when the accident occurred. His driver was said to have driven the Lexus LX470 into a tree. All four occupants of the car, including Obesere were injured in the accident and are currently receiving treatment.

Lord's Chosen Charismatic Revival Assembly led by Pastor Lazarus Mouka just took delivery of over a 100 brand new luxury and mini Toyota buses said to be worth almost N500 million.

The vehicles were acquired to convey worshipers coming from far and near to the various branches of the church. The church is said to have had tremendous increase in worshipers in the last few months.

Akon Signs Wizkid, in Major Partnership with EME Records

  

Empire Mates Entertainment has signed a major deal with Akon’s Konvict Music to release and produce Wizkid’s album worldwide. The Banky W led record label yesterday announced that paperwork has been signed and that there is now a confirmed joint partnership between EME and Konvict music. 

Although Wiz is the first beneficiary of the arrangement, the deal also makes provision for EME to launch any of its follow up acts on the same platform.

Nigeria's First Lady brings Lagos to standstill

I left my house around 11am this morning to attend the Google+ event at Get Arena in Victoria Island. By 1.15pm I was done. I got into my car to head back home...to attend to blogging matters...but guess what people? Five hours later I was still in traffic in Victoria Island. I swear to you I'm not kidding. I left Get Arena parking lot by past one, and by 6pm, I was still on Ozumba Mbadiwe street, which ordinarily from Get Arena shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. Then I heard that her excellency, the mother of all nations, the woman who puts food on our table, so has the right to disrupt our lives any time she likes, was in town. She came to Lagos and had her people block major roads on the island, literally shutting down the area. Like, where does that happen? Are these people freaking kidding me? How dare you do this to people? How can you disrupt people's lives just like that? Appointments and business transactions cancelled, because everyone was stuck in traffic for hours. All thanks to Patience Jonathan. That's so selfish, madam!

Anyway, after five hours in standstill traffic, I decided I couldn't continue, I was tired and hungry so I branched off to have something to eat, rest my feet, and wait for traffic to abate. Got home past 9pm, too tired to blog. What a wasted day! *Sigh* Catch y'all tomorrow.

George Zimmerman finally arrested and charged with 2nd degree murder

The 28-year-old neighborhood watchman turned himself in yesterday in Florida after he learned he would be charged in the shooting death of 17 year old Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman has been charged with second-degree murder and is being at held Seminole County jail without bail.
