Photos: RRS use drones to recover Dele Momodu's stolen SUV

The Lagos state Rapid Response Squad in a statement released this week, narrated how it used the drones available to them in recovering an SUV belonging to Ovation publisher, Dele Momodu. One of his staff was driving the car when it was snatched..Read the story after the cut...

On Sunday night, the car of Mr. Michael Effiong, an Editor of the Ovation Magazine, with special number plate "Ovation 3", was snatched at gun point in Maryland. Immediately, he reported to the RRS Commander, who in turn, sent radio signal to all Divisional Police Stations across Lagos state to track down the vehicle. For Mr. Effiong, the car has gone forever. But for the RRS Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Olatunji Disu, it was a task that must be accomplished. Immediately, the Commander deployed the RRS drones and the use of GPS tracker. Eventually, the stolen vehicle was discovered where it was parked around an hotel. He led the operation to the scene of the stolen vehicle with the help of the contemporary information technology deployed to track down the jeep. The jeep was recovered beside a popular hotel, Kalesco Garden Hotel, Badagry. The joy of Mr. Effiong knows no bound when he was handed over his vehicle that was stolen back to him. He praised the Lagos State Police for their doggedness in recovering the vehicle.

Dele Momodu is a well known personality. If it was a regular person, wld they use the drones to help recover their vehicle? The police and RRS are just for the well to do not for the regular lagosians.

The story did not include any arrest .And its a cause to worry..A more intelligent officers, having spotted the car would have lay siege and possibly make some arrest. Each arrest and conviction reduces crime rate by one.At least.

And I will love to hear ,a stolen car of not-too-popular-Nigerian also recovered at that record speed.
All the same Kudos.

Na dele own dey go search sharp sharp..anyways do something about d robberies

When it's a public figure's car they use the drone, but when it's civilian time, either the drone is not available or not charged

lol, yeah doggedness cos it involves rich people. i wonder what would've happened if the vehicle belonged to a "not too rich" individual, would the police have invested their time & resources in helping out? i don't think so..

Abegi make I hear word. Do it for 'ordinary' citizens not for publicity. The guy who was left to die nko? The police couldn't transport him in their new shiny vehicle and even when a civil citizen got him to the hospital, they couldn't use their authority to demand that he be attended to. When una start to dey work, EVERYBODY go know, no need for publicity.

Mtsheww utter rubbish.

Won't an suv have a tracker? Is that what government property is for to retrieve private individuals Property?

Can you count how many cars have been stolen this week Alone? Please don't get me upset.

Unknown said...

But yet we have not found our missing girls!!!!

Anonymous said...

The tracking device installed by Ovation helped with the recovery not your drone. Abi would you have been flying the drone aimlessly around the streets of Lagos? You had a location thanks to the tracker and you used your drone to check out the environment before swooping in.

Anonymous said...

Good work. Hope they keep it up

Who do these Police people think they are fooling? My goodness! This is a poorly written script they are attempting to play out. You tell us he was driving at night when the car was stolen. Yet, the drone picture is clearly HOT AFTERNOON. You guys can do better please. There are criminals waiting to be caught. I don't know how you'll do this in fancy new cars. You need pick up trucks and not those FORDS and Toyotas.....And they say there's no money.

Many a time RRS have recovered many vehicles which belong to ordinary Nigerians. This is not aa matter of celebrity. If you know the Commander very well you will know that he's a capable man in all cases. Rich or popularity has nothing to play here. Yeah, the SUV tracker installed inside the car but mind you, without another tracker it can't be located. RRS used their tracker on the land while drone on air to complement each other which led to its recovery.

Anonymous said...

I think I solely agreed with you, and that was the first thing that came to my mind when I read the story. If they are truly intelligent, why can't they lay siege and make some arrest? Abeg, to me all this na sham. Nigeria still stagnant.

Anonymous said...

This sounds like a publicity stunt from Ambode (MR GO SLOW) Lagosians are dam too smart for all this media hypes ,he should hit the ground running and deal with the high crime rate in Lagos if he wants a second time . Meanwhile ,in the spirit of APC anti corruption drive ,Ambode should show us proof the tender documents of the recently acquired equipment for the police ,which company won the bid,how transparent was the process. Nigerian journalist are lazy and often compromised otherwise issues like this should interest them ,not the story about the cars and ammunition ,some of us are smarter than all this bare face journalism. RSS are doing there job, simple

Anonymous said...

Na tracker do the work, not drone or RSS or Ambode, this una wayo no jell ,some us get small brain ,why not deploy the drones to fight Boko Haram ,yeye de smell

Anonymous said...

i give Ambode three months ,he will wep like a baby when he sees those newly acquired police cars, saw some in my area around a beer parlor ,this police rats will so wreck this cars that u will regret buying them even though u have kept the 10 percent of the contact sum ,we know how e be. The fact of the matter is the tracker in the car gave the police a clue to the exact location of the car,it's not a big deal ,leave story

Anonymous said...

Linda ,i challenge you,Sahara Reporters ,Premium Times ,cable news ,Punch and co do a forensic on the recently acquired security equipment for the police by the Lagos State Government . To start with ask the following questions ,which company won the bid process ,who owns the company ,how many companies bid for the contact and at what cost ,also, find out the state of the cars ,drones ,arms ,armored tanks etc,are they brand new ? I dare the compromised Nigerian media to do such job. I dare u to also publish this

Anonymous said...

Ewu drone, text this RRS skill with Boko then come back and make some noise ,give me one bottle make i hear word

Anonymous said...

Linda vex publish my message ,kudos ,this should be the spirit ,tell the RRS guys not to celebrate over this small feat ,my IT boys can tell u what Ambode is doing right now ,we have the technology ,no biggie,na tracker ,drone bawo
