The 24hrs news channel has been off air since January 1st 2012, with no explanations to its viewers. I've been hearing all kinds of things but I don't want to speculate. But Naija sha...why is it so hard to start and maintain a business here? Same way 234next, Truelove and a few others publications packed up.

So, NN24 is off air?
not surprised to read about that. always knew their business model was unsustainable. Same with 234next.
234next was tragic as the newspaper had the best quality of writing in Nigeria. However, when glancing through the 234next on Sunday newspapers and noticing the dearth of adverts, I knew the hangman of journalism would come calling. and then again, the hefty salaries the guy was paying couldn't have helped matters.
Dunno know aboout the rest but for TRUELOVE it was the south african financiers that decided to pull out the East African edition was revived by a kenyan journalist after the south africans pulled out and is doing well so far DRUM too.
I don't know why and just like you, I don't want to speculate. As per NN24 I asked Tolulope Adeleru, a presenter of theirs on FB and she said she's not aware, because she left them a while ago for a new radio station in Lagos. Can't remember d name.
They were a different class of journalism while they lasted sha.
I beg what happened to 234next, I've been visiting the website and its dead. Dont tell me they have stopped the publication? Even if they have they should continue with the online version. Its really hard doing business in Naija. Only the strong survive and you must develop a shylock attitude. That's why MTN,SHOPRITE and a host of other companies are still in existence. Their financial backers are loaded to the hilt.
I hope u dont pack up soon cos I'll def miss u. OK, maybe after ur sixth kid, you can. All the best!
I tot of it too! Linda u no get part 2 4 naija. Tanx

Kilode? We need a revolution so bad.
D channel was highly subsidized before....so wen jona remove subsidy.....d network had to scrap!
Omdays.Truelove magazine is no more??:o where have I been?under a rock?how on earth did I not know that?!:s
Cost of doing business is too high in this country. Inflation rate is high with more steps to climb as sanusi said. This country doesn't worth the sacrifice ƒor now. Some of my friends who have travelled out are doing fine with their biz despite a few problem there. Naija own too much.
Do not see a Lion that has been rained on and think its a cat. Dry days are coming and the Lion shall rise!
NN24 is not dead just regrouping.
Support Nigerian initiatives don't kill your own.
In 2 words, brand marketing! I live in the US, and happened across NN24 one day while channel surfing the very boring DSTV package. I loved the mode of delivery, the presenters, everything! However, I seemed to be the only one who knew about the channel. None of my Nigerian friends or family had even heard about it! This was over 6 months into their launch!!
How do you build a brand when your target audience is unaware of the brand?
Na that Next own pain me pass. That newspaper was class!
i hear from a very reliable source that NN24 is swtching satellite carriers and should be back hopefully on friday
was not really a fan of NN24 as i never found enough time to watch it.
the issue of NEXT is a bit painful.good journalism but poor business model.I heard the guy used some bank facility to set up. that is an unsustainable business model for a product like newspaper that thrives on network effect.Especially when you are a bit straight forward and not singing govt praises, you need a well of cash that will give you time to gain traction before making returns.Which bank will be that patient? There is a reason why most papers in Nigeria are owned by money bags and are often not run for profit.
Secondly NEXT was positioned like an elite product.its distribution was elitist and that was very wrong. The elite do not read as much as you think.reading, especially newspapers is done by the middle class.what is the essence of restricting distribution to 5 star hotels and The Hub in Silverbird? When did you ever see NEXT at your local vendor?
I was a subscriber to TRUELOVE. The south African publishers had a few issues with Bola Atta i hear, or the other way round. I felt that if they stuck around a little longer, they would have made it as they had a superior product to the likes of Genevive and TW.
the most painful exits for me was Kalahari.com.ng the south african owners just gave up on Nigerians unwillingness to shop online particularly for books and music. Besides the cost of distribution made it unsustainable. I was convinced that kalahari would have revolutionized online shopping in Nigeria. they had excellent customer care, secure payment platform and a reputable brand behind it.
NN24 IS OUT OF BUSINESS SIMPLY BCOZ IT COULDNT AFFORD TO PAY ITS STAFF REGURLARLY....MOST OF THEM COULDN'T BEAR IT AND AS RESULT RESIGNED FOR GREENER PASTURES, LEAVING THE STATION 'DEAD
@ravenmortal...Hmmmmm u dey get DSTV for US! All dis i dey abroad,US,UK,EU,PT,PA,AT..sef
No one has mentioned our dear HiTV? Whats up with them?
Bad Management !!! That's what killed it. NN24 was another money laundering scheme by the unscrupulous lot who started it. They are not upset at its demise because that's how it was set up to go down. They were looking for a legal channel to launder stolen monies and they did it! They brought in professional trainers from all over the world, recruited alot of young people, but the management ended up overworking and owning close of 15 months of salary. Most of them quit in frustration.
TONY DARA!!! (so called CEO), who knows nothing about managing anything, least of all a media outlet. You will pay for messing up alot of young people's careers.
This is inside knowledge people and factual statements. Such companies NEED to be thoroughly investigated and the people behind these scams brought to book. NN24 was a big scheme and a total waste of time!!!
