Mass Exodus Hit Latter Rain Church Over Pastor Bakare's Failed Political Ambition

Pastor Bakare and General Buhari
According to City People Magazine, there is a great unrest in pastor Tunde Bakare's Latter Rain Church as many members have deserted the church saying they can no longer follow the doctrine of a man who joined forces with a man (General Buhari) perceived by many, even Northerners, as an Islamic fundamentalist, who told his northern follows never to vote for anyone who was not a Muslim.

Pastor Bakare in the perspective of some of his congregation may have flouted the biblical injunction which says 'Do not be unequally yoked to an unbeliever'.

Also according to one member of his church, he clearly went against a declaration he made in 2006 in a popular Nigerian Daily where he declared this "Let me tell you the truth by the spirit of God, neither Obasanjo, Atiku, IBB, Buhari, are part of the new. They are part of the old that is decaying. That old is passing away. The new is emerging and these ones are not part of the new."

So it irked some of his members that he could eat his words and join forces with the 'old'. They say despite his ability to hear God's voice, he still took the plunge and latched unto a man that had been divinely rejected by God, making it daunting that the pastor got a revelation from God and then blatantly acted against it.

Do they have a point?

I thought he said Adeboye encouraged him to run. The question now is will Adeboye come to his defence.

Obasanjo must be laughing histerically right now.

Am of the opinion that what you do not know, you should not talk about, "hear say is what is causing the unrest in the north"... Do you know Buhari or any member of his family that confirmed fanatisim to you? Two shall not work together except they agree..... They (Buhari & Tunde) must have had some level of agreement, of which am sure none of you commenting know anything about...

Bakare made a big mistake the moment he joined forces with Buhari, and now its pay back time from his congregation: i'm enjoying the show!

It hasn't even started yet with this guy. Henceforth, people won't take him seriously when he speaks.

Ha !!! Mass Exodus !!! Their eyes don open. Now they know. He went into politics for fame and money. "Man of God" my backside. Hope more people's eyes go open for that Nigeria so they stop being scammed and fooled by so-called "relious" leaders.

open your eyes!

the fact that people abandon the man does not mean Giod is not with him.

people abandoned Jesus.

Of course he deserves it. He joined forces with someone who influenced mass murders of corpers, christians and Southerners in the North. He is not even remorse about it.

Hear God's voice? Really? Most pastors lie of hearing God's voice when they are only after money. Bakare is a very rich man.

I never heard in the bible were the prophet became a king. I also doubt Adeboye asked him to run. Its no bad for a pastor to be in politics but his utterances after the mayhem on national television was unbecoming for a christain let alone a pastor. The people leaving should have seen the signs long ago when he was condemning other churches .rubbish

In a country where politics and politicians are as corrupt as they come, any religious leader (pastor or Imam) who is true to his faith and "calling" has no business being in politics. The two dont mix and going into it will only expose you for what you really are.

Good work Anonymous, in carefully anaylzing this piece. Think of the function of 'the bridge' and you know church goers are just being religious. These believers are just as ashamed as peter, who denied Christ 3ce. I also love pastor Adeboye's stand. Let these men of God, differenciate between believers and a Christian. My point :)

I used to listen to bakare preaching on the TV almost every sunday afternoon. But from the day I saw him campagning with buhari to the day he failed woefully and now I have stopped. What led him into the distardly act of compromising his faith, his own words and dignity.

Yesterday, I saw a magazine with the caption,"Tunde Bakare caught pants down with a female pastor" If this is also true, believers especially the pastors he usually crictises should pray for God's deliverance on him. It is unfortunate!!!

Bakare failed election woefully, his house was reported burnt, his speech with Buhari took the lives of many innocent people, he was caught pants down with a female pastor, etc It is time for a spiritual retreat to ask God for restructuring and rebuilding so that he evade future misfortunes and more degradation as a pastor.
