Without ovulation, there are no eggs to be fertilized.
Some signs that a woman is not ovulating normally include irregular or absent menstrual periods.
Please pay attention as we look into this together…Issue with Ovulation:
Ovulation problems are often caused by polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).
PCOS is a hormone imbalance problem which can interfere with normal ovulation. PCOS is the most common cause of female infertility. Primary ovarian insufficiency (POI) is another cause of ovulation problems. POI occurs when a woman’s ovaries stop working normally before she is 40. POI is not the same as early menopause
- Some women do not properly develop and release a mature egg every month - they do not ovulate regularly. We call this anovulation (lack of ovulation) - or oligoovulation (infrequent or irregular ovulation).
- Some women ovulate occasionally (oligoovulation), for example, several times a year. They will often need medication to stimulate more regular egg development and ovulation to increase the chances for pregnancy.
Issue with High Prolactin
- Prolactin is a hormone made in the pituitary gland at the base of the brain
- The only known function of prolactin in humans is stimulation of breast milk production
- High prolactin will decrease FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) levels. This leads to irregular ovulation and irregular menstrual periods, or no periods at all
- Galactorrhea - spontaneous milky nipple discharge (outside of nursing)
- Fertility problems
