Stop firing your staff- FG tells Banks, Insurance companies, others

The Federal Government has appealed to banks and other companies to stop retrenchment of their staff in this period. This appeal is coming 24 hours after a commercial bank laid of 1040 of its staff. The Federal government's appeal is contained in a statement signed by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige and released today June 3rd. The statement reads;

"Following spate of petitions and complaints from stakeholders in the banking, insurance and financial institutions, I hereby direct the suspension of the on-going retrenchment pending the outcome of the conciliatory meetings in the industry. This is as a result of the apprehension by my office of the various disputes in the sector in accordance and in compliance with the provisions of the labour laws of Nigeria. In this wise, all the retrenchments and redundancies done in the last four months and all proposed ones should be put on hold pending the outcome of the proposed stakeholders’ summit for the banking, insurance and financial institutions’ employers and employees, slated for July 2.” it said.

Anonymous said...

Lol...this govt is a joke!! They think everything answers to their "declaration" as its common with military regimes? The right policies will attract the right results and crazy policies will attract crazy results.

May God punish these people.. How can they ask banks to stop firing their staff when they are the ones destroying the economy. You have to give the company something to work with. They can't pay their employees with appeals.

This government is so clueless..

Unknown said...

Though we have serious problem but this APC government/ministers keep making me laugh...they know the remote cause of this sack...#onMYway...

This government is a serious disaster . I wish they will swallow their pride apologize to Nigerians and then bring on board men and women across region especially from the south to help. This government of the North and by the North is a disaster.

Okemkpi I tot ur sensible never knew ur as useless as ur party,ur a big disgrace to the eastern region

Thank you; well said.

Everything isnt force naw.
The Treasury Single Account saga is already a huge problem for commercial banks cos a lot of money has been pulled out from them. Same reason Okonjo Iweala stated that it should be implemented batch by batch and for years. But Buhari comes in, gives the parastatals 3 months to pull out all their money from CBN in d name of 'fighting corruption', now our commercial banks are failing. Clear causes n effects.

Who is firing the bankers? It's actually the federal government. For a complete one year the economy was on hold no business. TSA was implemented one morning with heavy sanctions. Now banks are just managing to stay afloat. And u clueless political economists are giving orders that u know won't be obeyed. Why not give orders to those companies that have closed shop to come back immediately? Middle finger

That is eh! Her comments are always bereft of normal reasoning! I always scroll down quickly once I see her name. Extremely annoying girl! Tufiakwa!

Anon said...

Do u seriously see this pple as Democrats who will allow a free & fair elections for u to vote them out?...GEJ gave that power but these ones will never....not with all the inconclusives "anywhere APC doesn't win"

Anonymous said...

Lol. This is so funny!

When you guys increased the price of fuel to N145.00 did you think about the hardship it will bring to the people and the resultant effect?

When you came up with all your policies on the economy you did not think right?

Now the the whole system is on a speedy reversal, you are asking business owners not to sack staff, which is their own measure to save their business?

It's just crazy how this admin thinks it reserves the right to do as it pleases.

Mr anonymous ...dont be so soo foolish...very childish comment!

Lol.....I love this country. 3million jobs in one year. One year after...2.5million job losses. I'm sure fg wants them to join the police. Fuckers!!!!!!

Unknown said...

The banks and other companies are firing workers because they can't pay them no more, thanks to the APC government who has destroyed the remaining part of our bad economy. So this rubbish military u order that Ngige is giving is senseless. They would sack more. Just watch

Unknown said...

Smilin.....smilin.....dis country is useless coupled wit useles govt! God is watching.

Anonymous said...

Stop firing? How will the banks survive? This guy ain't serious!

You and your party are big fools! Go and stop them now and see what will happen. Instead of you to fix the economy so companies can thrive, you are there giving directive. Idiot!!! You and your silly party think this military regime abi? We dey wait una for 2019
Silly idiots that can fix an economy, you see now that Okonjo-iweala is a superstar now, sebi una dey criticize her as been corrupt. Let your brainless Finance Minister equal what she did now? Idiots who are still living with opposition mentality.
