I am a bit dissappointed in Tolu Ogunlesi for this comment because he is one of the more matured /balanced writers on social media.I grew up in Ibadan and as at the late 70's there was a functioning elevator @kingsway stores in dugbe.things went bad all over the country and i can say with all certainty that until 2004 when Silverbird galleria opened there was no functioning escalator in Lagos except the one in the Savannah Bank building on Broadstreet(abandoned building now)which was not open to the general public. When Silverbird galleria opened ,i saw a lot of classy looking adults who were scared to go on it because they had not been exposed to it.As we speak the escalator @ ikeja mall is still a sort of tourist attraction to many pple.please let us be balanced in our comments.By the way i am not from Ibadan but grew up there and left well over 20 years ago.
If everywia in Nigeria had this I tell u there won't be this long queue#Developing country naija#guess pple wu are based overseas ain't elevator freaks...don't blame them
You are so right. Nobody remembers their first time at trying to use the escalator. Besides we make fun of our own backwardness in this country not realising the joke is on us. If I remember correctly, escalators were in Ibadan before Lagos in the old kingsway building at Dugbe back in the 80's. It just shows how far we've regressed as a people, what a pity.
Some of us on dis blog are so fake, as if d first time u took an escalator, u didn't jump at d step all cos of fear of falling down mmmshhheew, abeg make we hear word. There's always a first time to everything
There is something wrong with this Linda. In a country where there is no electricity, how do u expect pple to be used to riding elevator/escalator. Linda u need to broaden your mind. You are not developed enough or may be I am expecting too much from u bcos u graduated from a university & u are a blogger. u c I equated being a blogger to being a businesswoman. This is where I may be wrong.
its not a big deal.It was the same case when Surulere Soprite was open to the public for the first time. The same thing would have happened if it was in Kano of Onitsha!

So no fall Ibadan pple hand jor.
If this picture is what it looks like then I am very disappointed in tolu! Why didn't he offer to help one of them get up/encourage them? So he fought his way through the crowd, was probably feeling like the cool one on his way up and when he got up took a picture to post on social media? Very poor! I thought he was into a better life and country for Nigerians. Is this how it is done? We just have a way of keeping people unaware so we can look like the cool ones, the cool one that can ride the escalator in tolu's case. Sad Tolu! Help your Neighbour get up next time!!
I will be careful getting on top of one in Nigeria. My spouse almost found herself on the floor @ MMA in 2010, it was so fast and too steep (the inclined angle was almost 30 degree). She got on it before a Custom Officers warned her not to go on it. Will think twice before getting on one. Remember the good old days of Kingsway, Ibadan.
“Can you do a segment on Past vs. Pass - if you haven’t already? Too many get these words mixed up.”

Often, writers muddle the words past and pass in sentences such as:
“The heroes pass a village on their way towards the mountains.” It’s common to see this written as:
“The heroes past a village on their way towards the mountains.” But the word should be passed, as (in this sentence) it’s the past participle of the verb “to pass”.
