Dear LIB readers: How can I tell my boss that he has mouth odour

I just got a job with an auditing firm with a fantastic pay. I love
everything about my job except that my direct boss wants to chase me out
of the office with his bad breathe. Its so bad. I can't even describe
it. I have tried to cope within this two months I started but
mehn....Kai.... its getting to me now. How can I respectfully tell him
without getting myself thrown out of my job? I need your sensible advice
please.

I don't feel and think you are in a right position to say anything yet to your boss, except you want to loose your job, and if you consider been jobless an option, then blow your trumpet. Remember you are just few months into this job and u know absolutely nothing about his person so avoid been too close to him when he addresses u mr. House warming the pepper for body ooooo!
1. Let him know when you are going for lunch and when you get back ensure you stay in front of him unwrap a mint-gum and chew without being conspicuous. If he comments on it, reply that you always do that so as not to pass-off food odour from your mouth to others. 2. Get his wife's number and send her any anonymous sms using computer generated sms. (This has 96% success). 3. If you can't do the 2 above, then just avoid facing him directly when he talks. Look sideways and respond to his questions or discussions. Eventually, he will get the message, but you may run the risk of him initially thinking you are rude.
And whats your biz with the mouth odor????Are you the only staff that has noticed it??If you are not comfortable with it leave the job, cos telling him will make him uncomfortable in your presence.....i guess someone has promised you a job in an oil firm.....LIB POSH

I see they have the most votes And I must say, this people are all deserving of the money, but there is only three slot left. So I went back to history, back to last year's post, checked from December to January to February, March downward and I discovered "Alloy Chikezie, Bonita bislam and Cute G" has been commenting since then, they've been on this blog longer than "Wilhelmina, bishop and Ed dreams and they've been regular. There are several different ways of letting some1 knw they hav bad breath. But it depends on your comfort level with the person, how close u are to them and the time and place. Remember his ur Boss and nt ur boyfrnd
Ha. Zip your mouth dear, buy enough minty gum/sweets/etc and leave them @ strategic locations in the office and car (if you go out with him). I couldn't even bring myself to tell a subordinate about his own, much less a boss. #justsaying
Lolz..i can only imagine.. i had a colleague with mouth odour too,but a junior colleague so it was easy for me to tell him,but as for ur Boss you have just on choice... deal with it for as long as u work with him or tell him and you lose your job.........Lmao.. but seriously what u can do is to get a mouth wash as a gift tell him to use it every morning, tell him it makes the tooth stronger .... or you tell him it kills or the gems and bacteria in the mouth and by so doing guarantee a longer life.... nobody wants to die am sure he will use it... if that doesnt work, by mints ... when ever u chew mints or sweets offer him some..... i hope that works ...
My brother I feel your pain. But it's a win or lose situation. Its all about helping your fellow man. They say only a good friend can tell you your mouth is smelling while others ignor U. Be bold enough not just to tell him politely (am sure he is aware) but to recommend solutions to help his predicament. He might appreciate ur concern. Receiving d recommendation from you would be embarrassing to him but he would appreciate them. I can tell you from experience. I have done this for someone, gave advice n recommendation. 2day the person is free from Bad breath (halitosis) n very grateful too.
HOW TO TREAT BAD BREATH (halitosis) 1. Good oral hygiene is usually enough to prevent and treat bad breath. When you brush your teeth, try to brush the back of your tongue, where it is harder to reach. 2. Your dentist can advise you on how to improve your oral health and can refer you for further investigation if they think there may be another cause for your bad breath.
Buy walnuts for him Send it to him in such a way he won't know it's from you. And then have a note attached which says ' for your breath. ' And pray it works. Voila. Good luck.

My dear wisdom is profitable for directions. You need to know the kind of relationship that exists between u and your boss. I.e if your boss is a friendly type. Walking up to him and tell him in a very polite is good, but if he is not the friendly type then observe who he respects so much and talk to person.
U don't av to necessarily put it out to him...try get stuffs like bitter kola n chewing while ur with him...n den sayin stuffs like sir do u care for?...buy baba blue too..tom tom
buy him menthol sweets/candy,then also get him any toothpaste of ur choice.if he asks you why,tell him the tooth paste company are doin a promo.if he could finish a tube of paste in 13 days,he stands a chance to win something. lol
Get a good mouth wash for him, politely advised him on chewing gum, avoid close contact with him as much as possible and put a air freshner in ur office.
Just buy him a gift consisting of some dental wash, paste, floss, brush, mouth spray maybe something different amongst it like a perfume and give it to him...
Very sensitive issue. I'm very allergic to mouth odour and I always encounter people with bad ones especially men. If it bothers u, u just have to say something before u sleep one day and not wakeup. Ask to hang out if the boss is a cool boss and then u can say how you admire boss and all but............
Difficult situation, but words need not be used. Simply always have mint gums and little bottle of mouth wash on your table and always offer him gums often. You must be seen as a gum enthusiasts. My tots wld be people rarely mind their biz, so he'll (or ur other colleagues)surely ask someday why u chew so much and what's with the mouth wash....that will be your cue to talk about how you never like your mouth smelling. If he is smart(as i presume he is given his job), he will most likely decode. I used this method for my boss but in a different way. Cant say it here cos my colleagues read this blog.
Question you should ask yourself is: "How does the freshness of my boss's mouth contribute to my career development?" You should learn to set your priorities straight. I'm sure ypur job does not require you to talk with your boss throughout work hours. Since you know telling him could cost you a very good job, why not ignore and "face your work"!!

That is serious what u gonna do is to open up a discussion and tell him what he feels abt dirty people and u can raise the discussion to the issue of mouth, body odor and stuffs like that to see his reaction maybe he knows and talk and by how to control such he might silently take to it and practice it then u will be free

If u know what is good for you, you'll suck it up and endure that mouth odour...u can go with a gas mask to work if u like cos if u tell him he has mouth odour he might not take it lightly. not everyone likes hearing the truth...
Don't be stupid! You must not need a job then. While it may be true that his breath is kicking like Jackie Chan, I'm sure you know telling most people is very offensive. Shut your piehole and get on with your work. If it's too much for you, YOU bounce!

Have a tic-tac or any mint gum ( think a mint gum is better as it lasts longer). when you are talking or something get some mint for yourself and offer him some. if he collects it, just let him have the whole packet. Thank me later :-)

Get a small calender that talks about oral hygiene and keep it in a noticeable place at work. Then get a small bowl and constantly fill it up with great mint sweets and gums. Finally...at lunch time make it a habit to tell him you are going to refresh your mouth. He might ask you "for what" then u start to rap about how oral hygiene saved your life... Try it
Okay go like dis "sir do u normally eat garlic? Bcos u do have mouth odour sometimes and I perceive it" so sir try using some mouth rinse to clear it thank u sir" it will work. Thank me later
I advice u get him some mouth products nd give it to him as a christmas gift. Add some sweet tlk lyk u heard it's a very good product nd decided 2 get 1 4 urself nd him.
Mouth odor is really a big issue with today's people,i tink Nigerians needs to be trained on how to deal with it.Just tell him politely, I have done it before,just go ahead
you are not the first to notice it and you won't be the last. He is probably married and have had friends from years past. His friends and wife if there is must have told him about it. i suggest you leave him alone and bear the smell, better that than lose your job trying to tell your boss an ugly truth he knows already.
Buy him closeup toothpaste for his birthday or wedding anniversary if he's married or as a Christmas or valentine present...just think of any event that is around d corner..
Lol. This really cracked me up. Always start up gist about people that have body odour, mouth odour and so on. You can even say some people have it and they don't know they have it. Then you can ask your boss if you have mouth or body odour, perhaps that would make him want to ask you too if he/she has. Stylishly you'll nod your head to confirm it.
During this festive period, buy him perfume(body & mouth), put in a note saying these are to help u look even more better(cute). That way he won't be angry neither will he suspect anything, he might even think you like him.

Mind your business oohh. Alternatively, work for a while and have someone call him with a private line and tell him, he/she came to his office sometime ago and noticed while he was speaking that he had mouth odour. Tell him the he/she didn't have to courage to tell him hence he/she chose to tell him this way. Tell him not to ne offended.
Is your office that small that the odur occupy everywhere?there is nothing you can do about it unless you don get another job....the only option for you is to be taking a break go outside the office and get fresh air
Correcting someone about any issue no matter how sensitive it is and irrespective of the person involved all boils down to your manner of approach and the tone of your voice while you are at it.
This kinda matter is better raised during lunch with just you and your boss when his guard is a bit down or better still after work thats if u guys do hang out together.
Bring the issue up like its about your very close friend and seek his opinion.

My Dear you are not alone you, I am facing the same issue too. I work in d accounts department of my Company and my direct boss has a terrible garlic-like mouth odor i had to cope with it for 8 good months before i finally moved my table far from him, and whenever there is need for me to go close to his table for info i make sure that i maintain a distance.

Very sensitive issue. I'm very allergic to mouth odour and I always encounter people with bad ones especially men. If it bothers u, u just have to say something before u sleep one day and not wakeup. Difficult situation, but words need not be used. Simply always have mint gums and little bottle of mouth wash on your table and always offer him gums often. You must be seen as a gum enthusiasts. My tots wld be people rarely mind their biz, so he'll (or ur other colleagues)surely ask someday why u chew so much and what's with the mouth wash....that will be your cue to talk about how you never like your mouth smelling. If he is smart(as i presume he is given his job), he will most likely decode. I used this method for my boss but in a different way. Cant say it here cos my colleagues read this blog.
