Less than two weeks after a Nigeria cab driver was shot dead in Washington DC (if you missed it, read it
HERE) another one has been killed...this time in New York.
54 year old Orji Ama Uro from Ekoli Edda, Ebonyi State, was brutally stabbed in the eye with an umbrella after dropping off two people, a man and a woman, in Brooklyn around 5pm on Thursday June 13th. The point of the umbrella pierced Ama Uro's brain, killing him.
Eye witnesses told police that the man and woman came down from the cab on Thomas S. Boyland St. in Brownsville and immediately started arguing with the cab driver. The man, believed to be in his 20s, then stabbed Uro in the right eye with an umbrella, piercing his brain. Continue...
Uro lost control of his vehicle, drove onto the sidewalk, and crashed into two parked vehicles. (pictured above). He managed to get out of his car then collapsed. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
His killer and his companion are yet to be arrested, though a $5,000 reward has been offered for any information leading to the suspects’ arrest.
Uro was not robbed as his wallet and cellphone were found in his cab.
He relocated to the US 10 years ago and recently brought his children to the US to live with him. (Two of his daughters pictured with him above). His wife lives in Aba, Abia state.

It is a shame that Uro had to die this way. He went to the US in 2002 to seek the greener pastures and make life better for self and family, only to be cut down in this cruel manner. Uro was a good friend, whom I met in the US in 2002, and shared some good moments with. I am saddened by his demise, after several years of toiling. May his soul rest in peace, and may our good Lord comfort his family. He will be sorely missed.

Cab driving is not a fun nor safe job. It's very risky and one needs to be careful when dealing with customers. i.e, know who to pick on the streets, don't work late hours, don't argue, etc

From the picture of his cab, the man was driving a "dollar cab", an illegal/unregistered cab that has no built in partition. It is a form of cab meant for hustlers. I'm not trying to knock him, he had to do what he had to do to survive. I did that too, and left it after finding my footing. Brownsville, East New York is amongst the toughest, if not the toughest, of hoods in NYC. There you get all kinds of low life thugs and gang bangers, that live off of social welfare. Mehnn, when I say bad niggaz, I mean it in every sense of the word. That's what you get at Brownsville. He made a mistake by arguing with them, you don't argue with the broke ass and drug infested niggaz. Probably, they did not want to pay him for the ride and he was arguing with them for his money.He should have driven away. It had happened to me severally, and I drove away. That was the mistake, especially, when the low life motha fucka had his low life bitch/shoddy with him. The pig would term it disrespect, (probably may not even know the meaning of disrespect)and would go any extent to teach the Africa (not even African)a lesson. Mind you, so many people may have witnessed what happened, and I will bet that they calmly worked away after stabbing him, but nobody will come forward.
