Bishop Oyedepo set to launch airline company?

Bishop Oyedepo flanked by aides
Let's talk about this. I haven't personally confirmed but there are reports flying around the internet that Bishop Oyedepo, the founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners Chapel is about to launch an airline company - Dominion Airine.
Here's how  Africareview.com is reporting it:
Nigeria’s richest pastor and self-styled bishop, David Oyedepo, has made a glistening addition to his business empire by floating an airline called Dominion Air. Oyedepo, who a few years ago ignited debate on flamboyant Christianity by acquiring his fourth private jet, is the owner of Dominion Publishing House, Covenant University and an elite secondary school called Faith Academy.
Sources within the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), the agency charged with business registration in Nigeria, confirmed the registration of Dominion Air with David Oyedepo as its chairman. Another source within a Lagos-based insurance firm known to handle most of Oyedepo’s businesses said the airline project had been in the works for six years and was only made a reality this year. The broker who balked at putting figures to the number of aircrafts so far purchased authoritatively said none of them is on lease.
What's your thoughts on this?

Okare sir..

For as long as people remain encased in self deceit and refuse to separate moral, religious and criminal issues then I guess they deserve all they get.(not cryptic for those who allow themselves to think honestly)Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds....

God bless us all.

It's not our business whether He wants to float an airline company or not. I know people would come here
and start accusing him of using people's money as tithe
and offering. Did He force them to give out their money? Please let's leave the man of God alone.

It's obvious that some people who call themselves men of God are indeed con artists in disguise. They hide under the cloak of religion to swindle people and extort money from even the people in abject poverty.

I'm a Christian, a Catholic Christian quite alright, but I definitely do not believe in being gullible around opportunistic con artists who pose as the Men of God (MOG) that they are not.

Bishop Oyedepo or whatever he calls himself is superlatively materialistic; he is so much interested in living large, which sharply contrasts the preachings in the bible. What amazes me, though, is the fact that people see a con artist in action and still consciously go further into quick sand. How long will it take you to realize that you're sinking fast, and that very soon the quick sand will engulf you?

This so-called pastor slapped a young girl in front of the congregation all because he felt he had so much power to brutalize the girl while the people powerlessly stood aside and looked. That's not how a true MOG should handle stuff. He ought have handled it in a way that Jesus would.

And about him floating businesses like a sprinkler? This guy, people should realize, is out there to make as much money from gullible followers as he could reach deep into their bank accounts. In my honest opinion, I believe this man is up to no good as far as handling the spiritual welfare of his followers. He simply needs to stop his scam or face the wrath of God whom he's defying.

People need to wake up from their comatose states and learn to think with their brains and not their butts. Open your eyes wide enough to detect greed and tricks in people that pose as MOG when they are indeed con artists in disguise. How can you be making money for a lying and fake "MOG" when the signs are so obvious? What's wrong with y'all?!!!

I thought the Bible says "build up treasures for yourselves in heaven..." With $150m worth of asset, c'mon!!! Christians should have free education already, for instance. Where the government has failed, the church shouldn't. My take, I'm not saying doing financially well is bad for a christain figure, all I'm saying's don't just accrue wealth and create businesses that'll not be accessible by the average or majority...such that'll bring questions over the crux of christianity...Love shares...love affects...learn from the Okorochas & the Gates...to whom much is given...much is expected from...

God is blessing Bishop Oyedepo through the work of his hand. It is encouraging and inspiring to see Christians competing head on with other businessmen....Bishop Oyedepo is a sound businessman cum servant of God!!! We celebrate with him on this feat

More than 70% of his congregation cannot afford a plane ticket. Most of his congregation cannot afford the N300,000 + sch fees for his schools. So y extort money from them in d name of tithes, offerings to open businesses dat ur members can't use. My uncle and his family have bin addictively and dedicatedly attending dis dude's church for over 15yrs. They hold him in higher esteem Dan God. They adhere strictly to tithing and offerings in church. My uncle cannot afford to send his kids to a public university not to talk of Oyedepo's private uni. His oldest daughter has bin home for over 6 yrs cos they do not have money for uni. Yet, their home church has a sch. I find it really disheartening and upsetting. And pls, no one should tell me anything about touching the Lord's annoited b4 I curse u out.

Check his books on wealth and prosperity. He is setting example of 'living his teaching'.At least una no say he duped anybody for these projects. And don't it is our offerings that is making all these happen.

Look at the good side of all these : Nigeria economy is becoming more vibrant; more than 2,000 people already have jobs via these initiatives etc

I know it's wrong to judge people, but seriously, what concerns a man of God with owning an airline company? Is that what God called him for?
I'm sure there are lots of poor members in his church who barely get enough to eat, but still manages to pay their offering and tithes every week. He should focus on teaching the word of God, and helping the poor n needy.
It's these same pastors that'll open universities, yet none of their church member would be able to afford it because of the high fees. Let's be honest, who is deceiving who?
Sometimes i wonder if they're really pastors or business men because of their lifestyle.
Nigerians are so desperate for miracles, they blindy follow any person who claims to be a man of God.
But remember this, God is watching us all.

He should go and use his money to build free schools and shelter for the almajiris and see the next generation transform. He should not tie it to them giving their lives to Christ, they will see another side of life and be less of a problem if they are fed, kept busy and have a direction. Threatening them when he can save the future with money given to him in trust by his congregation instead of siphoning it for his personal use will reflect Jesus.

God is watching us from a distance. All of us!! But pls let us remember, that anyone can own any business. This is nothing to do with calling. Engaging in business to make a living aside pastoring is not a sin. Afterall there are part time pastors in our banks, schools and corporate places. Its the same thing. But my only note of caution is that this should not be done by converting God's resources to personal use. And again I also caution that we should not assume that that is what the Bishop is doing.God is watching us all o!!!

Unfortunately, a church is registered as a non profit making organisation; for this reason, it is not required by Law to pay tax to the Government.
My question is how did a man running an NGO (Charity Mission, aka Church) earn so much and establish businesses without paying any tax to the government.
Now, many people will give the excuse that he writes books, and runs various educational institutions. However, what source of income did he use to establish and run these institutions.
Every other country except the USA and African countries-like Nigeria- have certain stipulated regulations for NGO's. For instance some are given government grants and regularly audited by public watch dogs, to ascertain the public funds are being properly spent. However, in our case, the NGO's aka churches, mosque e.t.c are being transformed into powerful business empires and avenues for money laundering .
What is extremely pathetic is the fact that the average Nigerian-living on less than 3 dollars a day- give their money to these people (assumed to be running a charity organisation) who in turn use it to fund their excesses as well as establish large business empires.
The banks no more lend to the average Nigerian; instead they are now wooing pastors and churches for investment.
It is only fair to say the time has come for churches to pay tax, and pay standard living wages to their staffs since it is no more "a labour of love" being offered by church workers.

@Felix E@ Onome, i tire for this pastor ooh. First, he slapped a young lady who came for deliverance for daring to stand in front of him to say "she was a witch for Christ" Our dear pastor asked her arrogantly, do you know who i am? Abeg who you be? He landed the poor girl a dirty slap. I saw the live video on Saharareporters. As if that was not enough, he said if anyone comes in front of him again to say that, he would slap them again.
Abeg my fellow Christians, how would Jesus Christ have handled this situation? Please be very truthful to yourselves ooh. One well known pastor even bought a Rolls Royce Phantom (£250,000) for TD Jakes his mentor. Now our dear pastor has joined the leagues of Big Boys to float an airline company. Why not resign as a pastor and face buisness if you are such a good buisness man. This is pathetic. The whole of First Class cabin is usually filled with our Pentecostal pastors. When they get to Lagos, they have bodyguards carrying GUNS to protect them, welcoming them. Man of God? Sad.So people, tell me, whats the difference between our Men of God and our politicians. Ok, some tell us what we want to hear abi? Glad i belong to the Orthodox Church.Ooh please enough of the Touch not my annionted. Its not for these crop of people. Sad Sad Sad

The Bible told us in Acts.4:32-38 about Xtians selling their properties and bringing it to the church to share with less privileged members but this is just the reverse of that teaching. Our people continue to fool themselves saying we should not judge, well we are not judging but being realistic. The bible also told us the we should store up for ourselves treasures in heaven not on earth. He has really deviated from the teachings of the bible which is suppose to be our guild. When the missionaries that brought Xtianity to us came, they built school, hospitals and churches, they offered free services both in hospitals and in schools, why are we still deceiving people. So many Nigerians today has been hypnotised and can never see anything wrong in these flamboyant life style of these gods. God will help us but we have to help ourself first.

Not criticizing but want to point things out from an earlier read. Most of the old schools at the start of colonization were built by the missionaries who preached Christ. His schools are for the rich & he's preaching Christ. Now airline business won't impact the majority poor who are his followers but going into mechanized farming can affect a lot of lives & create jobs & feed the poor. So how are the poor going to be catered to? Jesus catered to mostly the poor. See my argument?

We shouldn't judge cos we are not God right, likewise, we should just allow all other worldly condemned criminals to roam the street and wait for God's judgement day.
Yes, he has created job for many through the new biz,if truly he meant well for the masses why didnt he go into FARMING,this will accommodate x100 of the so-called job created by the airline with the same invested sum, and the by-products of the farm will touch all, regardless of the economic status or societal class.

i have so much to say and Linda if you like dont post my comment,

1. anybody that calls this oyedepo or whatever his name is a pastor is a big fool, or maybe a retard.

2. even the oyinbo people wey introduce christianity to Africa sef no do reach some pastors in Nigeria, in my few years abroad i have never heard or seen a man of God that will do half of what this David of a man has done, from building of Universities which your fellow dumb church members cant afford, to slapping someone in church and being hailed by doing so from your same stupid church members, wow
if only Nigerians can open their eyes, read the bible and understand that being a christian is not all about going to church, paying your tithes and offerings,
what really amaze me is how his stupid church members defend him blindly, like he's a God, yes i know in the bible it is said 'thou shall not touch my anointed or do my prophet no harm' Oyedepo is no fucking Prophet, he is a business man who manipulate his dumb church members to extract money from them to enricch himself,
some people are even scared to talk when they know the truth why because they are scared he will curse them, like what the fuck is he a God? he cant do shit, if all those dumb followers are scared of God or respect God and his word or even scared of breaking the 10 commandment as much as they do to a fellow man like them believe me Nigeria will be a better place,
and yes i know some of you will start saying @annnonymous blablablabla...... and trying to curse me out nah you sabi i really dont care about that and if i see a need to reply you i will and i will def curse you out,

things David needs to do like someone mentioned here: open a shelter, if you can atleast give out free meals twice a week to the needy(believe me he might charge for it sef) own a charity home, i doubt if he is even involved with any charity in Nigeria...........
what kills me so much is that kids are suffering in Nigerian, and this so called man of God is there walking arround with his guards, buying irrelivant things for what? you aint taking shit when you die .............. its VERA not annoymous to make it easy for any dumb person that wanna reply my comment with insults smh.. AND lINDA IF U LIKE NO POST MA COMMENT, still love you tho lol

For those of you condemning him and passing judgement, especially ''Felix E'' Take him to your court and pass your judgement then sentence him, lets see if that will move him an inch,Mr Foolish. Some people are there stealing and here you are condemning a man of God cos he is creating jobs and making exploits. Is it your fathers money?? Someone said he should build schools for free, really? and the teachers of the school will go home after a round of applaud abi? How do Nigerians reason? If some of you are christians as you claim,God can kill you for saying shit,he is a respecter of no man, dont joke with Gods sovereign decision.LEAVE THE MAN OF GOD ALONE! and other MEN of God,they will face their creator to account.

Dear Bishop Oyedepo

I was thinking something. Instead of spending tons of money buying four jets of which you say you use for evangelizing in distant lands...have you thought of maybe taking that money as well as the one for the aircraft to offer micro loans to people in your state of Kwara? Like maybe $500, $1,000 or $5,000 so that they can use it to start a business and be better able to take care of themselves. Or attempting to influence governors in providing contracts, business opportunities and jobs to workers and so on. That sounds like a good idea and at least people would know you are a true shepherd of the flock God has given you. George Mueller is a person you would need to reference through Google in taking this task up.

Its funny how folks focus more on other people's faiths than theirs. Focus on you and your families making heaven first, instead of wondering who is living more righteously. God isnt about set rules, because you are used to a Christianity that starts at 9am and ends at 10am, or one that follows set rules, doesnt make it right.

People that point fingers would much rather partner with a thieving politician, and chop money together, than see why a man or woman of God should have a business.

So its ok for you, or your father or brother or sister or uncle to own an airline, but it isnt ok for a child of God? That is exactly what he is, a child of God. People that point fingers are the ones who will donate N50k to their church, and want their church to assign them to front row seat, or will pay tooth and nail to get their knighthood so they can answer Sir and Lady, as if that alone is a guarantee to make heaven.

Even in yankee, strong men and women of God are investors, and many are successful at it. Many men and women of God come into the ministry with a business background, and God uses them to build the kingdom. If I go to Bible school today, I have other degrees, including a business one, so if down the road, God gives me an idea, to help raise money, to be able to do even greater, is that wrong?

See people's mouths like free schools, the ones built by the Catholic, Anglican, Methodist churches over the years, are they free?? My mom went to a great Methodist school back in the day, ran by white folks, and it sure was not free. Why dont you build a school, or a university and make it free? Better still, for those of you whose family members have chopped finish for government why dont you encourage them to build big schools and make it completely free.

Simple, all this na jealousy, and hating. Thats really what it comes down to, because deep inside, you (meaning anyone who fits the description above), wish you can own an airline. Realize that your destiny isnt tied to what any other man does, let God alone be the judge, because He is far qualified than you, I or Linda Ikeji. We are mere mortals and we certainly dont deserve to cast any stones, while we sin in the closet daily!

Hmmnn.....this is a tough one. Owns 4private jets, a university, secondary school, the biggest church in the country....infact the richest pastor in Nigeria. While am happy for him for how far he has come and how well he has done for himself, i bet you that 70% of his church members can't afford 3square meal. These pastors will preach that it is better to stay hungry and pay your tithe and offerings with your last kobo. Most of these pastors only care about enriching themselves while intelligently ripping off their church members.
At least the Catholic church has a society called St Vincent De Paul in all its branches worldwide. I am a member, we beg for money, clothesetc and with it we establish little business for the poor, the widow, generally those in need.
Most people don't pay their tithe to the church to enrich gullible pastors, they use the money to buy clothing, food etc for the poor.
Anyway God knows and he alone will judge.

Ppl talking bad about dis man from now till thy kingdom come wil not change his plans neither wil it remove from his bizness. He knew ppl wil talk yet he stil went ahead and launched his airline.

The days of pastors being poor and haggard looking are over.besides he is living his message:Kingdom prosperity. That a man of God is experiencing prosperity wil not stop me from paying my tithes and offerings.my own is if I go to a church n there is no positive impact in my life I switch.that is y I've been where I've been for 5years now.

And for those saying "he should give to d poor/or giv to charity" ;I'm sure he's doing a lot of charity work and he doesn't announce it.ppl only see the wealth n they say all sorts.I'm not a winners members, never been to winners, but I know ppl who hav genuine testimonies from attending that church.so to each his own.

So live and let live. if d man was poor now n preaching prosperity ppl wil stil talk. if u feel ur church is fraudulent,Leave and go elsewhere. #shikena.

If MOG were truly christians, they wouldn't be living such a flamboyant life when most of their followers are languishing in poverty...what really does it mean to be a christian?

Femillionaire said...

Sad, sad, sad...I know it's none of my business what he chooses to do with his or his church's money but I can say that I'm disappointed with this line of action. As a man of God who's supposed to touch the lives of the masses, this falls far short. What is the percentage of Nigerians that fly? If the man must invest, he should have done so in sectors where lives can be impacted. People are hungry, homeless, can't afford adequate medicare and he's investing in an airline?

Do not get me wrong o, it's his prerogative to do that as a business man, but then again, he is not just another businessman. He is a man of God. As such, he should be seen to do the things which please God by taking care of the poor masses within his means.

Sectors such as agriculture, hospitals, housing, refineries, energy, road construction... These are areas where he should invest and ensure that an arm and a leg is not charged. Show love to the people by charging moderately, this way, he'll be seen to be walking the walk and talking the talk and people cannot but appreciate the Christ in him.

Lastly, the airline industry in Nigeria is suffering from over capacity with the few ones in operation just managing to survive. There's absolutely no need for another one. This move is ill advised and I hope it fails. I for one will never patronize such...

I have thought about this issue for a long while, and my opinion is,

(a) What Would Jesus Do. I don't think Jesus will buy planes for an airline in a country were 70% live below the poverty line, and have little or no access to healthcare, education and shelter.

(b) From my knowledge of this line of business and other viable areas of the economy, i think he choose the wrong spot to sink money. He should get ready for a different kind of war, not of words, not of spirits, but of economics and brand. He should have done power generation or housing.

Sha i wish him and his congregation the best.

I once flew in with a moslem friend from London. Our flight that day was filled up with Pentecostal pastors. When we got to lagos, come see bodyguards? My friend now said to me, see your people, men of God with bodyguards and aides carrying their bags! I quickly pionted out to him that i was Catholic. You would never see such behaviour from Catholic Priests. When i got home i wondered to myself, what has this whole pentecostal brethren turn into. You and i are not blind. Leave that touch not my annionted. People, you have stopped worshipping God, but worshiping your so called men of God. We are busy looking for miracles. Can we first and formost make GOD our priority and leave these people of the world alone. When we turn to God, our miracles would manifest.

All these comments about MOG's not supposed to live in poverty and stuff, lets try not to be too emotionally attached to the situation, especially for the penticostal church goers. If it was his family money he is using to amass all these wealth for himself, nobody will be talking. The fact is that he is using the hard earned money donated by his congregation through offerings and tithes to enrich himself, instead of using it to help the less privileged in the society and his church. To be a true christian is not easy my people. Take example from the works of the late mother Theresa, her good deeds alone spoke for itself: how a good christian should live. the hash truth is that the church has become a business ground for most of these MOG, it is only God that knows who is truly serving him. It is only God that will judge.

a lot of people in my own opinion are ignorant. the capital to start a business that is capital intensive as airline couldn't have come from the church.

Most companies are built by a mixture of debt and equity capital

the ignorance being displayed here is dismaying

What is wrong in floating a business that would create employment and better the good of the nation

Na wa o!

There is absolutely no correlation between tithes and this proposed ventur

Alot of Nigerians are so myopic in their reasoning. so if bishop oyedepo goes to orphanages he must come and announce it to you abi? do you know how many people this man has sponsored through school? do you know how many widows he has been able to start businesses? do you know that as we speak his ministry built a school in goma hills? do you know the sacrifices he has done in secret that makes God bless him openly? pls i beg you get stories right before you start judging. i am where i am today because of the influence of bishop oyedepo. anyone who worships in winners will tell you that neither the pastors nor the bishops put pressure on any member to give. how much do you think you can give to GOD? he does not need our wretched purses rather our wretched purses lokks to him for replenishment. Linda you are enjoying this abi? it just shows how vain and myopic you are. an actress buys a car and you exprsess your joy for them, a man of God floats an airline and you make cynical underlying remarks. what has bishop oyedepo done to you? take your time oh. d man dey create jobs una no go dey open una smelling mouths. *sighs*

u know, people always complain about church/man of God related prosperity. They say "give it to the poor"; not that they care about the poor; they just lack the capacity to believe that the church/man of God can be unreasonably wealthy.
They say build free schools. Was it not the concept of near free schooling that ruined the federal unis? Or do u all forget that salaries and wages have to be paid? Or that employees have to be motivated by salary reviews and other such perks?
Covenant University spent approx 1.5trillion naira just on diesel in 2 years. Now lets do some maths. The school has about 7k students with the highest fee being about 500k and d lowest being abt 400k. So, lets assume an average of 450k. 450k multiplied by 7k gives 3.15billion. Now, consider that there are other operating costs the school has to take care of including salaries and lab equipment and books and building maintenance and what-have-you. But asides that; lets assume the school decided to use the entire schoolfees to pay for diesel, it won't even ALMOST be enough not to mention enough. Infact, it wont be up to 1% of DIESEL cost. And here you ignorant folks want free access into a world class aiming school. Who do you think pays the balance for diesel? This should give you an idea of the operating costs of the Winners Chapel as a whole.
The Church goes into businesses true. But beneficiaries of such businesses no what they enjoy. Ask any genuine CU student or kitchen staff or cleaner or shopping mall manager or clerk e.t.c in the winners family.

On a lighter note, we Nigerians are passionate people. and we often think and talk out of our predispositions and biases. This is not entirely bad but when extreme ignorance comes into play, our folly becomes apparent.

Many of you who have commented are completely ignorant of the inner workings of the organization (yes organization) hence your blindsided remarks.

Of a truth one should praise God for his workings in the bishop's life, the life of winners and the body of christ as awhole.

And btw, every true dedicated winner is prosperous.

guys, wait until God's children start controlling the world economy then you will start asking for divine wisdom to create your own business.

So Mr. Anonymous...are you blaming the people who gave out their money to the Pastor? Are you saying the man did nothing wrong or he is doing nothing wrong and all the blame should go to the people who gave him money?

U said Jesus said he was poor so that we thru his poverty might be rich...it's not a problem. But when 70-80% of that same congregation can't afford your pastor's school fees...isn't there a disconnect in your quotation? Are your members doing anything wrong? With all the books and sermons on prosperity, I would expect that at least 10 of them would have floated 10 airlines years ago...I would expect that ALL of them will say your bishop's school fees are too cheap. But wen only 1 person in the multitude is able to accomplish this, then we should ask questions.

Jesus rode on a donkey, see ignorance, a donkey was equivalent to a luxury ride of today! Read the Bible again and see that others walked, even bare feet. Jesus said go and get the best donkey!

If you see all the Catholic priests that have molested kids in Yankee and Europe, abeg leave that alone. No man is free of sin, see all these sinners pointing fingers as if God has given them the mantle of authority to judge.

If God treated any of you pointing fingers the way you treat others, you'd be long dead and burning in hell sef! Focus on your own Christian life and your own walk with God!

It's obvious that all the people commenting that he's a man of God and a bizness man is ignorant. Firstly, is there anywhere in the bible that says christ did anything but for his earthly mission? Even the disciples, when they were all called, they all left there respective professions to follow christ. They never multi-tasked in no way. The point is, once you are called, you are called. God will always provide for you and you need not do any other business so to say to survive as your needs will always be taken care of by him that called you. Hence, saying he is a man of God and a business man is misleading as such word has no basis in the bible. Lets learn to call a spade a spade. This is the case of robbing Paul to pay Philip. Many has been decieved by religion especially the poor. And this has onces more re-affirmed the fact that RELIGION IS THE OPIUM OF THE MASSES....

hmmmm...there's a reason the Bible says..''It will be easier for a camel to go through a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God''. Mark 10:19 and Mathew 19:24. So much for building up treasures up in heaven. One cannot serve two masters ooooo.

even the bible says my people perish for lack of knowledge... i believe those criticizing bishop david oyedepo are ignorant and naive as well... the bishop is a prosperity preacher and God is obviously and evidently blessing him to prove to all men that the righteous shall fluorish like a palm tree... and the bishop is a living testimony to this...meanwhile, even with the little God has blessed u with, how have u impacted the society? does he need to air his charity work for people to commend him?
this is just the begining as many more wonders will keep springing forth... haters should not speak otherwise cos God himself will be the one to punish, just humbly tap into the blessing so that ur life can be transformed for better...
