Alexander Ndubuisi |
The deceased housewife, who had seven months pregnancy at the time of the incident, had delivered a premature baby and was kept in an incubator for some days before she died last Sunday, October 23.
Little Udochukwu who was also burnt in the incident had given up the ghost at the hospital and his body deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
Ifeoma’s uncle, Mr. Louis Edeh, who confirmed her death yesterday, described the development as very worrisome saying members of her family had expected that she would survive the disaster having battled death for over three weeks.
Ndubuisi, a barber had after sprinkling petrol on his pregnant wife and two sons in the Independence Day tragedy fled his home but he was later arrested by the police who took him into custody since the past two weeks.
Ifeoma, who hailed from Amuri in Nkanu West Local Government area of Enugu State, had while on admission lamented her plights in the hands of Ndubuisi, whom she had married for about seven years.
Owing to incessant dispute with her hubby, Ifeoma and her two kids decided to stay with her mother for some time and she only decided to visit her husband on October 1 to celebrate the independence anniversary with him.
Ifeoma who sustained severe burns had narrated while on her hospital bed how Ndubuisi set her and the two kids ablaze that faithful day.
“When he brought the fuel, I felt he wanted to use it for his generator, but he was telling me that, “people are wicked; that the woman who sells provisions opposite owed him had refused to pay up; somehow he managed to attract the same woman to the shop telling her to talk to me.
“It was all confusing, but the next thing he started pouring petrol inside the shop and afterwards lit a match, but the woman forced her way out as he tried to close the door on all of us. It was people around that came to our rescue, but I and my children were already burnt. I thank God that we are still alive,” she recounted.
Eneh said her condition worsened last Sunday after her premature baby died, three days after her first son, Udochukwu gave up the ghost at the same hospital.
The six years old Emmanuel which has become the only survivor of the arson, has already been discharged from the hospital as his condition was said to be stable.
Although the police in Enugu said they were yet to conclude investigation into the barbaric act by Ndubuisi Egeonu, who until the incident was a barber in a container shop located at No. 61, Mount Street, Idaw River area of Awkunanaw, in Enugu metropolis, members of his deceased wife have demanded that he should be brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to others who might engage in such ungodly act in future.

NIGERIAN MARRIAGES.....he he he he (I laugh). Why am I not suprised? I know how many Nigerian men are rottening in jail here in the U.S for killing their wives. Na today? You people will keep reading this type of tragic stories until yall learn to stop forcing marraige down people's throat! Marraige is not for everybody yet most Nigerians and their obnoxious attitude and backward cultural mindsets have made it their business to force people into long term marital relationships/scams. The other day, some Nigerian dude stabbed his wife in the eye thereby blinding her eye. Now this one has killed his wife, new born infant and three year old son. So much for married men obeying the biblical command "love your wife like Christ loved the church." I dey sit down dey look as one after the other, una go dey stab and kill each other in your sham marraiges or should I say death warrants? lol
Anon 8.28 pm, you should be extremely ashamed of yourself for finding this sad situation funny. At least you should have some fucking respect for the people who have lost their lives in this tragedy. Clearly you have a rotten character so it's a good thing you don't believe in marriage, at least no one would have the misfortune of being tied to you. I agree that marriage shouldn't be forced down people's throats but surely you can state your point without being callous.
How can you set another human being on fire??? I can't get my head round it!
Anon @ 8:28pm, I agree with you. Marriage is not by force, but by love. If there is no love, leave it alone. Marriage at all cost is not good. Some people should not get married to anyone. Seriously.
What could have possessed him to do this horrendous crime. No be by force to be married, if he was tired he should have left her and the kids rather than kill her. May her soul RIP and may he have his judgment both on earth and on the final day
Anon 8.28 pm, evil and man's inhumanity to man exists in ALL form of relationships - mother and child, husband and wife, simblings, friends etc. Seriel killers on the loose everywhere, killing ppl they dont even know. Evil comes in all forms. It was absoultely unneccesary for you to sit back and laff at the misfortune of other people cos no one knows what is going to happen next. Watch ur thoughts cos anything can happen to anyone. Its just unfortunate that people that should love each other are actually people hurting each other but whether you choose to accept it or not, there are millions of VERY HAPPILY married couples.
they should put the husband under too.
this man should be burnt alive without mercy
hanging wud be too merciful for him
