Entertainment industry yet to get Pres. Jonathan's $200m largesse

Y'all remember the $200 million intervention grant that president Jonathan promised the entertainment and creative industry last year? Well, one year after, no one has seen one kobo of the money...

I hear they keep giving conditions that a lot of the entertainers who want the grant can't meet up with. And now some vexed practitioners are planning a protest match in Lagos and Abuja to get the president's attention and get the people holding on to the grant to make it available.

That's not true!! One company, a start up independent cinema group (not affiliated with silverbird) is the first approved proposal. From what I know not many of the proposals sent in are clear on their own systems and how they will pay back. Remember it is a start up loan not free money. Loan were never available for entertainment industry at all. So rather than rag the initiative, give people more information on how they can make their proposals qualify for the scheme. The problem is that many in the industry who have rightfully worked hard and deserve a break are more like the proverbial 'old dogs' who don't want to 'learn new tricks' and feel a sense of entitlement while some of the new folks want quick and easy fame and fortune. If part of the requirement is to sign up for a tailored business course/program at LBS (if you don't have the equivalent to satisfy that requirement) then suck up and do it and all this while they would have been teaching you how to enhance your proposal to qualify and also enhance your own business too. Life is not easy breezy and beautiful like Cover Girl!

They have been used and fooled. They won't get any money from GEJ and PDP. The entertainment industry should have secured the money before the election. Goodluck Jonathan deliberately made false promises which he knew he and his party won't keep once he got into office. GEJ is no better or different from other politicians and rulers before and after him. That is politics. As for the planned demonstration to get the President's attention, that's exactly what it will archive - get his attention. It won't get them the money, even if they kidnap the President's pet goat or join Boko Haram. Nigerian Association of Okada Drivers have more chance of getting that $200 million than Nigerian entertainment industry.

What are the conditions of the grant? Are they unreasonable or unachievable? Could it be that people who have no real plans to develop the entertainment sector are the ones who are asking for the money as though it were free?
