28 Million Nigerian Youths Unemployed – Minister of Youth

According to the Minister of Youths Development, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, out of the 67 million youths in Nigeria, 28 million of them are unemployed. That is 42% of the youths in Nigeria. He also said 80% of this unemployed youths did not go beyond secondary school level.

OK, so who do we blame for this? And you see why armed robbery, kidnapping and mental illness is on the rise?

Who is to blame for this you ask? Nigerians of course! we nigerians have seemingly made it our life long ambition to birth babies like chicken. Even those who can barely afford to feed themselves choose to marry and then make more children than they can comfortably afford to take care of knowing fully well that Nigeria does not have social services and aid in place like advanced societies do to help the poor and needy. So, this Naija children grow up and have nothing doing and result to prostitution, aristos, robbery, internet scam, drug trafficking and the likes.

what about those that have a degree that are still jobless? A beg leave this thing.

hold up...20% of 42 would make 8.4 right? So he's basically saying that 8.4% of the population of youths are unemployed UNDERGRADUATES...that figure cannot be right, correct me if I'm wrong though

assuming the research is correct. the fact that they didnt go beyond highschool is no reason for them not to have jobs. there are jobs for every level of education. even here in US, hw many people go beyond high sch? so let them not say its their level of education dat is responsible for their lack of jobs. the level of education should only come into question when discussing the standard of living.

See. Remember when you lot were yapping about UK recession / unemployment figures? Too many of you are jobless or are in shit jobs in Nigeria. We Brits in UK are 100 times better than you lot in Naija. BTW, I earn a hassle - free salary of £58,000 per year and I'm less than 26 years old. lol.

Even in the most developed countries, there are lots of unemployed youths. I have a masters degree from a well accredited UK university and I am still unemployed, however I refuse to the blame the govt for everything. I use this period to learn skills, such as baking and sewing (self taught using videos on youtube) and will hopefully market these skills if i dont get a job soon. I know of a friend who started sewing for herself as a hobby but today she is sewing excellent bridal wears and making more money than her parents who are lecturers! She is a graduate, but does not use her certificate. There will always be excuses for unemployment, but we can still be useful by learning a trade or even unpaid work to get the experience. Linda`s sister is using her passion of dancing to make money, turn your passion to something financially rewarding. Dont wait for the govt for everything.
