Conmen: Joshua Obasuyi (left) and Julius Oweka (right)
Two fraudsters who convinced a pensioner she had won a £5.7m lottery jackpot before conning her out of her life-savings were jailed for a total of 50 months today.
Joshua Obasuyi, 49, and Julius Oweka, 48, were part of a Nigerian gang who tricked U.S. Professor Marie Lowery, 80, a retired lecturer at the University of Houston, Texas, into handing over £245,000.
She was strung along by the London-based conmen for nearly four years, after responding to a spam e-mail that told her she had won the jackpot in a prize draw.

And they were jailed for only 30months after defrauding the old lady of £245,000! I dont understand why!!
Honestly you cannot tell from the face who is who- I can easily imagine these men back in Naija acting like responsible middle aged men from the UK earning an honest enviable wage. Mscheww!! Shame on them-- trying to make easy money off people's over-hard earned sweat
Two heartless agbayas with no fear of God. And i'm sure they would've been going to church all this time. Their sentences were too lenient considering the number of scams they've carried out and the money wasn't recovered. I don't understand the UK justice system sometimes.
Ha!!!!Naija I dey hail o.....
shame shame on u guys trying to defraud an hard working earner, u guys dont just wanna stop tanishing our image abroad, i bet ur families and friends will be so so so proud of u guys . Madt foolz
...and it is just a few people like these that give us a bad name...Even though I do not understand why they have to stress they are Nigerians 'cause they obviously have EU citizenship as no talk of deportation was mentioned after the sentencing. This is just like how I was seeing a white patient yesterday and she said I do not want to disrespect your religion because I know you are muslim. When I asked how she knew I was muslim(Even though I am not and respect anyone irrespective of their religion) She said your skin colour. The bias is already there, it would take a long time to remove this bias, Fraudsters deserve all they get and more. Adding Nigerian as a prefix... Hate the act not the actor
But come o, how them go tell u say u win lottery when u no buy ticket and u sef go believe? There's also the greed from this victims o. You go get email say money dey one account, of which the owner don die and no next of kin. So will u act as the next of kin and help transfer the money to your account them go pay u so and so percentage and out of greed u sef go say yes! Abegggi, who send them message?
There are the people giving us bad reputation. What a shame!!!

Ah... Don't worry, once done, they will come back to naija and marry a nollywood actress... wink wink
look at their strong heartless faces...old men with no shame!
Odianose Okojie's brothers in Europe. meanwhile he is a big man in naija... shame i hope they catch him soon.
where are these guys from..they are not ibo..they must be edo...
why is it a story every time a Nigerian is caught? so what? you have people from every nationality doing the same thing, but you dont hear their folks making noise about it. sometimes Nigerians deserve what they get, we are our own worst enemies.
and then we complain on why oyinbo wants to label us this, that, and the other.
Are they two different people? or is it the same person with two different identity? there initial are both the same, J. O? i have been looking at the pictures and cant tell the difference, abeg can someone spot the difference for me apart from say one wear glasses and the other no wear glasses.
these barsteds almost tried to scam my mum aswell thank god they are put away hope the rot!
How can anyone take advantage of an 80year old woman?!!!!!
These are the type of guys smearing the image of Nigeria, I want to suggest that there should be double jeopardy for them, EFCC should pick them up after been deported to Nigeria and make them serve a double jail term, Nigerian Government should confiscate, their properties in Nigeria, it must have been acquired through fraud.
