Ige was ‘unconsciously complicit' in the murder of M.K.O. Abiola - Al-Mustapha

Hamza Al-Mustapha who is standing trial for the murder of Kudirat Abiola, has named the late Bola Ige as having been 'unconsciously complicit' in the murder of M.K.O. Abiola.

Mr Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the late head of state, Sani Abacha revealed this during the second day of cross examination by his lawyer Olalekan Ojo at the ongoing trial at the Ikeja High Court, Lagos.

According to the former CSO, "Bola Ige was appointed as the liaison officer to Abiola while he was in detention. His appointment was done after the federal government phased me out of the role."

He also stated that after the demise of former military ruler, Mr Abacha, he (Al-Mustapha) reached an agreement with the federal government to set free the detained winner of the June 12, 1993 election and that his mandate must be restored some time later. He added that shortly after that agreement was reached, the federal government appointed Mr Bola Ige to replace him as the liaison officer to Abiola.

Photocopy evidence
The allegation that the federal government paid a certain amount of money to some Yoruba leaders was further affirmed on Wednesday when the former NSA tendered an evidence of a photocopied document signed by former head of state, Abdul Salami Abubakar, and his NSA, Abdulai Muhammed. He alleged the federal government claimed the funds was to be used for national security and to pay soldiers on peace-keeping mission whereas the funds were used to settle the Yoruba leaders who, according to him, subsequently thronged the Villa.

The evidence was admitted by the judge, despite a plea by the prosecuting counsel that the document was secondary evidence and not verified.

The judge, Mojisola Dada adjourned the case till Thursday when a video evidence of the Yoruba leaders who visited Abiola's cell will be played.

But why are u just opening up now. Lives have been lost and so much has been happening since then. If you were sincere and had spoken up earlier maybe less would have happened. Any way i hope your evidences are valid and that the judiciary system will be fair to bring to justice all who are guilty so that these families can have closure. Peace to everyone.

This story isn't new. IBB's former ADC (i think) Rtd Major Debo Bashorun has said similar things. I read the Awujale's (Adetona's) book and he said similar things. Abraham Adesanya has also been named as someone who got monetary rewards for shutting up about MKO's death. These people are dead and they cannot defend themselves. In due course he will name those who are alive. Expect to hear Ooni Sijuwade's name.

Ige ended up as CJ (despite being in AD) and Modupe Adelaja (Adesanya's daughter) ended up as a Minister! Some sort of compensation?

At the end of the day, Ige was killed. So it's all a zero sum game as we call it in IR theory. IMO, the same person who was behind Abiola's death (with the USA as covert supporters) is the same person behind Ige's death.

I don't trust any Nigerian politician. They will sell their souls for money. Reuben Abati said the problem with the Ibos/Igbos is money. What will he say about this? The thing is, dirty money politics is rampant in Nigeria and is spread across all geo-political zones.

I have a theory on why this is the latest news. Abdulsalam handed Mustapha to OBJ. OBJ did nothing in 12 years now GEJ wants to do something about this case. Why? I think they are trying to rope in the brain(s) behind Boko Haram and the Jos bedlam (seeing they have no real proof.) For this guy to be talking i have a feeling he's been assured by the powers to be to spill the beans and he will be protected. He's just scratching the surface of the case. The end game is to name the main person and it's not rocket science who that person is. I may be wrong (but after reading Awujale's book and Bashorun's testomony, something is on, in this very high stakes game.)

Also, this leads credence to the rumour that most of our politicians (dead and alive)are agents of the CIA.

Part two from Mustapha is on its way.
