Man's wickedness to man, can go to any length, state of nature. Only goes to show how far we have lost our sense of humanity and value for life. This is the first time am seeing this kind of dastard act. My only wish is the thief finds peace with God and the perpetrators too.
God have mercy on us all.

Terrible, Terrible, Terrible!!! the question I keep asking is where does the tyre and petrol always come from (like it just appears)?
I know the police force is messed up but equating a necklace to someone's life is madness, just think about the tears they have put in a mother's eyes.
When we ask ourselves why our politicians are so wicked, remember that they where once like this (touts/ street orchins).

nigerians are heartless mehn. over a fucking necklace

This is soooo sad!!! Is the necklace he stole anywhere near what our leaders have been looting??!!!! This is just man's inhumnanity to man.....WTH??!! Haba and they stood there and watched him burn?? I know stealing isn't right, but have we taken tire and petrol to the National Assembly to burn all those bloody looters...it would appear some people were just looking for some "excitement", cos this was TOTALLY uncalled for...I hope the thief finds peace and other potential thieves learn from this!

WTF!!!!!, who branded them Judge, Jury and executioner... He stole I get it but who says any1 of them hasn't stolen anything before in their lives..... This is just sadness. Where is the police to maintain order, nowhere to be seen. this is not right...Fashola you need to stop this

We,as humans have NO RIGHT to kill anybody, even in the Bible, when they wanted to stone the prostitute,Jesus said,"He who has never sinned should throw the first stone".....In this case,Judgement is for the Lord. All the pple that participated in this gruesome killing will not go unpunished, they should wait and see....

@linda they burnt him to death ooo!! nawa just like i read in ibhade's blog about a guy that was almost burnt to death just because a girl called him a thief...it was an elderly woman that saved him. All those people that beat him up and burnt him to death are not any better than he is prolly they steal but they donot get caught...God have mercy ooo!

I never believed in my entire life, I would shed a tear for a thief. I watched this video and the tears just poured and wouldn't stop. Who are these people? Are they human beings? where is their hearts? Just for a necklace. I don't care how much the necklace cost. I know stealing is wrong on all levels but did anyone stop to ask for a second what that boy is going through at home that made him turn to a thief. He might have had an emergency like maybe a sick or a dying family member. Our country is messed up. There are no jobs, no government sponsored benefits for unemployed youths, nothing. All those motherfuckers who rule that country have ruined and turned young people into criminals. Those fools were having a blast setting another person on fire. Mat God judge them. And those idiots that were taking pictures while he burnt to death or throwing stuff to keep the fire burning, I have nothing to say to you. May the young guy's soul rest in peace.

whaoooo!, I am loosing my center of gravity already. I thought I would be able to finish it, I downloaded the video with Internet Download Manager. now I want to delete it at a speed of light. Very disturbing, people are so heartless.Linda please, where did it happen?, and are you sure it was NECKLACE he stole?, even if the guy had stolen the whole of Nigeria, he should have been tried in the court, there is no NORMAL human being from a woman that would watch the video without having his heart melted.

I think jungle justice is more for folks who want to kill but cannot, but unfortunately for the thieves who get caught, they become their target with the public's approval. They are basically murderers no matter how you slice it. This is horrendous and unjustified, even in a civilized society. Whatever happened to beating him and letting him go? They've already cracked the guy's head and stuff. Tchew.

I wonder where all these crocodile tears are coming from. Yes, the man stole a common necklace. That is how it starts. Next thing, he will graduate into an armed robber or a kidnapper (assuming he isn't one already). A thief is a thief. It is the same thwarted mind that controls both a common necklace thief and a hardened armed robber. How easy it is for someone who has never survived an armed robber attack to shed a tear for one. We seem to suffer from amnesia. This common robber is no different from many that have tormented and continue to torment the lives of innocent Nigerians all because times are hard. Is it hard for them alone? It was a common robber that shot and killed a 29 year old Nigerian young lady Saduwa, nee Vincent-Uvieghara in January 2007 while driving home from work in Lagos. So, let the masses do what the decrepit Nigerian justice system cannot achieve. One day, the same fate will befall the politicians that plunder our country's treasury.

This is ridiculous. Can any of these individuals stand up to their leaders who have continually stolen their national wealth!! This is not to justify the act of stealing however, we cannot be the judge and jury.........this just causes lawlessness which we have become Synonymous with. Shame on Nigerians.

Kemiismyrealname said...

Life is funny. I did not watch the video, but think about it, it's only a necklace abi? Those politicians you are all talking about that have the same mind set and all started with......it's only.....If I take this, it will not hurt anyone, the armed robber also started somewhere too.

I am not condoning jungle justice, but he stole and got caught up in the vicious cycle. I have been attacked by armed robbers twice and I remember looking at the boys and knowing that if I had the gun that they were holding I could have in my anger and rage killed them.

He is the unfortunate recipient of the frustration and anger of people that have been terrorised by thieves.

I CAN'T BELIEVE WOT I JUST SAW.....DOES A NECKLACE WORTH HUMAN LIFE...AMONGST THOSE PEOPLE ARE THIEVES, ARMED ROBBERS, AND MURDERERS.....ITS..... AM SPEECHLESS

@anon 12:57,i'm amazed by ur utterances,so it's right burning d guy to death abi?Stealing is wrong i know but what happened to just handing him over to d police r better still just beat him but not kill him. That way he will learn his lessons n know dat he nearly escaped being mobbed to death. What is bad is bad, burning him to death wasn't RIGHT.May his soul RIP....*sighs*

Anonymous said...

So sad!Who made them the judge?.We are all sinners so we should leave judgement for God.What he did was wrong but didn't deserve to die that way.May God have mercy on us all!

WWJD said...

Haba Anon 12:57, haha, where is ur heart? I know armed robbers and the like are a menace to society, but this guy was just a petty thief...if he was a "correct" ole, dem for no catch am na.....this theft was probably out of hunger or desperation, not the cold blooded armed robbery ur referring to....Nevertheless we should not let the goings-on around us prevent us from having human feeling....Just my 2kobo sha...

Tis is so sad! to think the guy was shouting "Jesus' n no one could take compassion on him? Haba!!!!!!!! and they would go tp church on sunday! may God rest his soul amen.

@Anon 1:43
If that comment shocks you, then a loaded gun pointed at your forehead by a boy too young to wear a beard should amuse you. That video is all the deterrent that a prospective necklace thief needs to amend his ways. We easily fall into the habit of ranking the egregiousness of a theft based on the worth of what is stolen. Based on that thwarted fallacy, we then assume that a bank robber should be punished more than a necklace thief. If you hand that idiot over to the police (police indeed!), either of two things will happen: he will languish in jail without trial and come out some months later hardened and ready for more daring dare-devil acts; or he could be released within a week to continue with his nefarious activities. That was just one less miscreant out of the way. Let the goriness of that sight deter his fans.

@Kemiismyrealname: Experience is the best teacher. You've said it all.

Anyone who has grown up in 9ja knows the score..it looks gory but its always been this way..it's like being in Saudi/Indonesia you just don't mess about..people get burnt in 9ja for stealing clothes on a line..getting dry

i understand the rage at wanting to punish anyone who steals but we should also realize that innocent people also get caught up in this.
there should be punishment for any crime committed but really there is also a sliding scale for punishment. in a proper society (i won't say the US etc cos there are flaws too) - he needs to be punished but not in the standard way i.e. no jail time that would only serve to make him hardened. He could do forced community service etc - something that could serve as a deterrent.
I cringe when i hear such things cos i wonder if i was wrongly accused of stealing something and before stating my case, i had already been slapped and kicked etc or what if it was my brother? Its worse if you don't happen to look like an ajebota.
it is wrong o it is wrong. I can never forget a sight i saw about 24 years ago in lagos. a woman who they said had robbed was being flogged stark naked down the streets. it broke my heart. it did. i dont care if she was guilty or not. if she was found guilty and she was tied to the stakes like anini, i doubt i would have felt anything.

I am a very successful man, in my early 30s and with good ever growing income, but that doesn't stop me from begging God to restart this world again. So we all can start again and correct our mistakes.

The rich and mighty walks freely after stealing billions, but the poor get stoned and burnt to death for stealing 100 naira.

People, I am frightened of this our existence, which is why I choose not to have any kid. I feel very grieved to have child/children into this misled, confusing and ugly world!

OMYGOSH!!! this is so sad, il like to think that if i was there i would have intervened to stop such barbaric act, at least his final words were Jesus, May his soul rest in peace.

Anonymous said...

I am so sorry, please this is not justice this is murder!!! the government should start clamping down on this barbaric act that "we call justice". If this guy had some job to do will he steal? People are suffering in Nigeria and we forget that the ones that almost deserve burning are going scot free in the House of assembly or Aso Rock. PLEASE I nearly wept because this isn't civilisation it is BABARIC!!! We should start a campaign regarding this matter. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!...GOSHHHHHH

Ade_Cool said...

Don't get me wrong..can't wait to see the day those Politicians are tied to the stake and shot like the cheap robbers they are...
Bankole apparently has decided to share the loot he sat on..just like Igbenidion...so soon will be seeing another free robber on Bisi Olatilo show or Ovation...that's all you have to do..settle the Godfather's and you free..it's when you get too greedy that they drag you..to bloody inefficient EFFC!!

Anonymous said...

that is the most inhumane thing i have ever seen in my life. no matter what the guy stole or even if he is a hardened criminal, nobody has the right to take matters into their own hands. the people that burnt him to death are barbaric. they can't claim not to have ever stolen in their lives before. i was in shock when i was watching the video. its really terrible.

Not every Parent prays to have a Child that will grow up and steal. all the folks screaming 'Jungle Justice' should honestly tell me they have never committed a crime. Cos if you have, i pray you get burnt someday since in the end its punishment for your crimes. Abi, no be true? If you haven't experienced poverty, then please dont be quick to judge! Cos its only the lowly thieves they catch and burn. The spoiled rich children stealing from their parents purses are not burnt to death, rather they are termed 'kleptomaniacs' and pampered further. the ones in higher authorities are called politicians and its called 'settling'. Call a Spade, a Spade! If you are so passionate for jungle justice, start with the ones - the leaders of your country who are causing these lowly ones to steal!

I am a U.S citizen married to a Nigerian man I love him dearly, we are supposed to take a trip to meet our extended family in February. My heart goes out to the young man and his family. I've never seen such things happen with my eye in my country but I know we are not perfect no one is. I am frightened to even visit now. I would not want such barbaric acts to happen in the presence of our daughter. If it were my people I would hang my head in shame!

where there children in the crowed who may have witnessed this? ive read many of the comments on this video, but the truth is this kind of madness is all over the world. there is a direct link between violence and the gap between the rich and the poor. the bigger the gap the worst the violence.. this is a human issue
