After seven years together of marriage, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony have split. The couple, who are parents to three-year-old twins Max and Emme, made the shock announcement in a joint statement released late yesterday.
'We have decided to end our marriage, this was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters. It is a painful time for all involved and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time.'

It's been long coming. They were on the verge of splitting before she had kids. The twins came and they thought they would hide the cracks. The cracks never went away.

Perhaps the first step would be to consider how Linda used the word "oyibo". Did she use it in the strictest sense, i.e., white person of European ancestry, or in a broad sense, i.e., anyone born and/or raised in a Western country such as the USA? If Linda used "oyibo" to refer to Jennifer and Anthony as Americans then I see nothing wrong with how she used the word.
And for those that don't know, Jennifer Lopez was born in Bronx, New York, which is in New York state, USA. Her family has origins in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is NOT a country or a state, but a territory of the USA and therefore, anyone born there is automatically a US citizen. I went to school in the US with people who were from Puerto Rico or had parents from there and they tended to consider themselves Latinos and most spoke Spanish. Some were white looking, black looking, or Native American indian looking. Latinos tend to be a mixed group and have white, black, and native american ancestry.
Within Latino groups whether from Puerto Rico, the DR, etc., there is an ongoing debate about skin color and the preference is for the whiter look. That is why the actors and actresses look straight up white in Latino soap opera shows or Spanish novellas as they are called. I have met black Latinos that cry about looking black even though we (Naijas) would consider them light skinned blacks and would fit the general preference for light-skin. Also, Spaniards from Spain do not identify with Latinos in the USA and identify as caucasians.
Politically, Latinos in the US are considered a minority group just like African-Americans are considered a minority group. Latinos and African-Americans sometimes share similar poltical interests and some Latinos in some urban communities identify with African-Americans especially the hip-hop sub-culture. This does not mean that all Latinos feel warm and close to blacks, because that is not always the case. Some do not care for blacks and by "blacks", I mean African-Americans also known as Black-Americans. This can be the case even if the Latin person is black looking.
Ultimately, how one identifies themself is complex and not always based on how one looks. Culture and socio-economic class also come into play. Nonetheless, since race is a social construct, it is always up to debate. Cheers!

About the divorce:
It seems sad for all involved, but no one knows what their family really was about.
Maybe one or both of them became increasingly unhappy (or also saw no more benefits from the relationship) and felt the need to release themselves from their -marriage- contract.
Overall this story sends an important message, which is not to stay in a relationship that clearly doesn't work/is not meant to be because of someone else (the partner, the children, the parents, friends, etc...)
According to their official statement, they remain friends, which is good news.
At the end of the day, that "someone else", if they truly love you, is only concerned about your happiness; the fact is that everything else around us catches the energy we carry. This is why happy relationships, happy marriage and happy families start with happy selves.
Last but not least, in my humble opinion, it is not selfish to look after your well-being for the sake of your loved ones (that it in order to be a better provider).
On the other hand, it is not fair to let go of yourself or loved ones, or even putting lives at risk, for the sake of a relationship.
Life is way too precious for that.
These are notions that we all struggle with; they're not easy to implement.
Fashion note:
Jennifer Lopez is one of these rare celebs whose dressing is always on top in fashion reviews; in fact she might be the only one...In my opinion, from all the pictures i've seen online, her "fashion" has not been on point just a couple of times, which is great given that she's been in that industry now for decades.
Like i said, latino/hispanic/puerto rican/ is not a race( feel free to google or check your local library or better still ask any latino).That's why you have puerto ricans who are caucasian( JLO) and black puerto ricans( claudette oritz of city high, christina milian) and native american puerto ricans. But dont take my word for it. Google it. There's tons of books and articles written on the subject
