In a desperate bid to save himself from arrest and prosecution, former Delta State governor, James Ibori, offered to surrender a huge chunk of his stolen billions to a trust fund that could finance development projects, according to a leaked U.S. diplomatic cable made available to NEXT.
The September 24, 2009 dispatch reported that Mr. Ibori, shortly before escaping to the United Arab Emirates after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission closed in on him, approached the United States embassy in Abuja for a deal that would have him give up between 20 and 50 percent of his loot in return for promises by foreign governments not to prosecute him. The former governor, the cable said, approached the embassy through a U.S. businessman and reputed lobbyist in the Washington, DC area, who estimated Mr. Ibori's stolen wealth to be about $3billion (N45 billion).

they should take all that money and use to rebuild schools or hospitals or roads or something. i guess the idea can't be that bad. i just want to make sure Ibori has NOTHING to do with it and is handling NONE of the money. corruption seems to be everywhere.

He must serve his punishment, wat kind of useless deal is dat EFCC OR FED. Ibori, should be sent to jail for a very long period of time for all the atrocities He had comitted like wise Igbenideon and so many of them like that should be indicted to face the music cos they have diverted state found in their posession to their private bank accounts.they have failed Nigerians,corruption has eating up PDP governors like cancer. it's a big shame.
What, Ibori even harbored ambitions to become Nigeria's president? Whether or not we like it, Obasanjo did Nigeria a huge favour in putting his clout behind Yar'adua (no, I am neither Igbo, Hausa nor Yoruba in case you are wondering). In anycase, it is very unlikely Nigerians would have voted for him but then again, Nigeria is weird country- remember people lined up the streets to welcome Bode George from prison!
