Although President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration has kept millions of children at home to allow for voter registration in schools, the president’s two children and those of other affluent citizens are attending school uninterrupted. The elite school these children attend, the American International School, Abuja, is in full session. The Federal Ministry of Education had on January 6, ordered all schools to postpone their resumption date until February 4.
The American International School, Abuja - which counts among its pupils and students children of prominent senators, ministers, governors, and even the president - resumed on January 10 and has remained open ever since, running a normal school programme. A reliable source at the school, who would like to remain unnamed, confirmed to NEXT that the school, which runs an American system of education, is attended by the children of high-ranking government officials and politicians, many of whom are active members of its Parent-Teacher Association.
According to the source, who is a staff member of the school, “This is an American school but I don’t think it is enough reason for them to disobey [a] government order. I see it as an embarrassment. Maybe it is because all the teachers are foreign and they are sure that the school will not be used for voter registration.
“The school fees range from between N600,000 to N4 million, and no parent will pay that much and see their children at home during [a] normal school session for any reason. National Assembly members, ministers and even the president’s children are here. The two of the president’s children are in primary school in this school.”

This is actually one of the reasons why Nigeria is going nowhere near the top we always foolishly desire to get to. So the American school is now above the law because the kids of the high and mighty are there!
This means that our senior citizens are accomplices to disregard for the laws of the land.
Why won't we turn deaf ears to what they say at public gatherings ?
Shioo!
I pity the next generation of Nigeria! Seriously!
federal schools shud be postponed not independent private schools. the rules are different for private/independent schools in every country. nothing wrong with AIS in Abuja resuming they are independent of the Nigerian govt...yes i defend them and other private/independent schools...i went to AIS in Lagos.
If I owned a private school in Nigeria, they cannot tell me when I can open school unless its a law. And if they're not paying me for the use of my school buildings for registration exercise and providing adequate additional security during the rental terms, they for damn sure ARE NOT using my property.
The federal government should only have jurisdiction over their own public schools, not someone else's property.
The government directive was a mistake in the first place!
Uh it's not the only school, I know all the greensprings school are in full session as well. If I were a private school I wouldn't shut gown either as long as parents are paying millions.
OOOOkaaayy!!! so all the tym GEJ was saying that his children are in Nigeria, they are not abroad, he put them in America in Nigeria. Hmm...
they made my dad shut down his school till feb 4th...God will judge them sha...
Ha! ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL, BUT SOME ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS shikenna!....*sitting on the ground & shaking my head in wonder!*..9ja we hail thee o!
It's not only AIS that is in session. Most of the private schools in Ogun state are presently in session. Govt. has no jurisdiction dictating when to close their schools.
It is because we parents want our children to have good and qualitative education that made us to send them to private schools. Govt. should please not come and pollute the private schools under any guise.
TV addict, here's what linda's post said: the federal MINISTRY OF EDUCATION ordered ALL schools to postpone their resumption date.
hopefully, the caps would help make things clearer in your head. im all for defending your school if you please, but at least have an argument.
@post, i have mixed feelings on this. for one, unfortunately it seems there are double standards when it comes to these things. but on the other hand, if that particular school was not scheduled for use in election registrations, then to what intent and purpose would it be to lock it up for that period for cockroaches and spiders. but then, with the same token, all other schools that were not scheduled for use should have been allowed to go back.
you know what, to solve this wahala, they should have just said ALL public and federal schools will be used for registration, so they should come back later. the private schools can do as they please...
i concur with Ibhade.
ugo why attack only me? didn't u see other comments...dude leave me...just leave me alone...WTH...i hope u understand my CAPS too...
