Ex-militants Block Abuja Highway

Ex-militants from the Niger Delta area of the country caused pandemonium in Gwagwalada area of the Federal Capital city as they blocked the Lokoja-Abuja Highway, a major road which links the capital city with the Southern parts of the country. This resulted in long traffic jam as travellers on the very busy road were unable to proceed beyond Gwagwalada.

The militants, who carried white flags, said they came to inform President Goodluck Jonathan about the failure of those saddled with handling the amnesty programme to pay them their N65, 000 monthly allowances. The militants told journalists that they were tricked into surrendering their arms and abandoned by the government.***

SMH!

I am all for amnesty but seriously, what makes them think they deserve a free monthly allowance above every other innocent&hardworking Nigerian. Especially the "true victims" in the Niger-delta. Shame on them& shame on our leaders for trying to cure the symptom & not the disease!

The people dt brockered that deal should be horse whipped. Why not create sustainable employment opportunities rather than spoon feed them. These group of desperate youths are not any different from the privileged few that exploit the Niger delta people. selfish people all of them.

I'll say it again, Nigerian govern leave the DeLTA EH !!!
honestly,it's a state resource not a national one. oil greed don kill this Nigerian government finish !
Obama doesn't totally control the oil resources in Texas,it's a state wahala.the state runs it not Obama! but greed & ignorance makes these past half-educated nigerian presidents rip off frm these community.
seriously, wud Lagos or Ogun or Jos allow Goodluck & some Delta oil employees to run the resources of their OWN land? NO !!!
or to cause oil-spillage, unnecessary killings(Saro Riwa etc) to happen as a result of other Nigerians invading their state and resources ? NO !
even with all this oil issue & killing, what did THE PAST PRESIDENTS DO FOR THE NATION WITH THE OIL PROFITS? NO ELECTRICITY, NO BETTER EDUCATION,STILL POVERTY.
