A North Carolina woman, Cynthia Shackelford, 60, thought her husband Allan was deeply in love with her. Then came his late nights at the office and suspicious charges on his credit card and cell phone bills. And finally, a private investigator confirmed what she had feared: Her husband, she said, was having an affair.
Under centuries-old North Carolina case law, Shackelford sued her husband's alleged mistress, Anne Lundquist, for "alienation of affection," charging that the woman broke up her 33-year marriage.
She says that the woman manipulated her husband and convinced him to walk out on 33 years of marriage.
Last week, Shackelford won. A jury awarded her $5 million in compensatory damages and $4 million in punitive damages to be paid by Lundquist, her husband's mistress.
"She set her sights on him. ... She knew he was married," Shackelford said of Lundquist Monday. "You don't go after married men and break up families."
North Carolina is one of seven states that allows the people to be sued for cheating with a married man or woman.

If it were possible to sue mistresses every where in the world, there won't be that many mistresses would there?
But who do you really blame in situations like this, the husband or the mistress?

well the mistresses are only half of the problem. and their part is even more understandable because they are just in it for the money or some other ulterior motive. the brainless idiots who leave their wife and kids at home and then go chasing after such women are the ones that leave me baffled.
in this case, i hope the mistress digs up another weird old law and sues the man as well. next time all cheaters will be sure to shine their eyes or at least the ones in North Carolina!
I totally support. I wish the law was applicable in everywhere. All these chics that knowingly date married men. What about the man though? He should be punished for cheating also. Afterall, he went in with his eyes open. He's not a puppet.
What a law!!!!!should be implemented everywhere,then we ll know how possible it is for men to be monogamous i know for sure that at least 80% of infidelity wii not happen,i blame the women jo,though i would never harass a mistress(God forbid i ve cause to)cos i made no vow with a woman but my husband,but we sisters shld learn to be their sister s keepers.Titi

Hear hear! i really wish this law could be passed in every state in the world, you see the life expectancy of women would increase at least 50%. Meanwhile, how does the man get to go free, i hope she de-balled him oh. At least he'd still be alive for her kids but would not be out there screwing 'mistresses'. These men no go kill us sha.
