What is this?
But then someone told me it's not only in Nigeria that this is happening. Is it true that the price of foodstuff has increased in most parts of the world? Are you experiencing it too in your country of residence? Is this temporary? If this is going on in most parts of the world, then what the hell caused it?
The problem with Nigeria is that once a price goes UP, it never comes DOWN
How will the less privileged people survive when they can't even afford a cup of garri? This is not funny o...and there's even no salary increase.
What is going on Mr President? This is not what you promised us o.

My mag's 3rd edition should be hitting the stores on Monday. I'm picking it up tomorrow afternoon. If I get there tomorrow and don't get my magazines, I'm exchanging blows with everyone I see there. From the security man to the MD. They're all going down. I swear I'm going 'Jackie Chan' on all of them. I gave them the mag to print in March and they said it would be ready in two weeks, this week will make it five weeks...isn't that so annoying?
Let me get there tomorrow and not get my mags...we'll see who will land in the hospital...ME or THEM.
Just kidding, I'm not that violent...lol. But I should be picking it up tomorrow. Hopefully!

The price of foodstuffs has gone up everywhere. A gallon of milk here that used to go for about $2.00 is now $5.00 etc....The difference bw naija and yankee is that the prices will eventually go down when the economy improves. We are also lamenting abt the high cost of gas....Analysts claim we are in a recession. So it is everywhere, my dear. God help us. We are all looking forward to the rebate checks that the govt promised us. God bless America.
Haba, Linda you sound as if you've been living in planet pluto. Thought you had satellite tv in your residence. Haven't you been watching BBC, Sky news lately? Food prices are rising massively these days. The reason has been blamed on famine, climate change, over-population etc.
Unfortunately, i think the media, as always, is exaggerating things a lil' bit. However, many people will just be 'panic buying' foodstuffs.
yeah foodstuff has increased everywhere, even in america but europe mainly, dint even know it affected nigeria...well all we need do is just pray that as everything inceases:gas price, food, electrity, our pockets would also inrease...
na wa o! there's more on the global food crisis here:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/18/world/americas/18food.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
Actually the rising food prices is a matter of global concern. If I recall correctly, there was something on the news earlier this week on how a committee either would be or has been set up to investigate the reasons for the rising food prices and proffer solutions to the problem and how to help 3rd world countries or so.
It's quite worrying actually....
That and the rising fuel prices....
Yes, Baby...... Food prices is soaring worldwide even in America, unfortunately Nigerian Government won,t do anything about it. All concentration is focused on oil, to be realistic with you, I think as Nigerian we should all start looking into farming. See all the money one can make with from food production in these type of famine. Anyways congratulations on your Magazine and make sure you send my copies and bill.
LOL AT GOING JACKIE CHAN ON THEM
YOU ARE FUNNY
CHINA ENGLISH IS SOME CLASSIC SHEEZE
K
i hope ill be alright after this much laughter, im even tired of rolling up and down my place.
LOL...hilarious sturvs
Oh yea. Everything is at an alarming rate here in the states. I use to have a $100 budget for food. Now I spend $200.
Gas price is not even funny. Gas is close to $4.00 a gallon, It was less than $2.00 not even 2 years ago and we were all complaining.
I fill up my tank with about $50now, and I need to fill up 3 times a week. :-(
The sad thing is employers are not even close to increasing people's salaries, they are laying off instead.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO AISHWARYA RAI is the MOST BEAUTIFUL woman I've seen, Halle berry is pretty but not close, there are prettier blacks than her. so please AISHWARY RAI is number 1
Some analysts say buyers in Thailand and Vietnam are hoarding grain and may release it in coming weeks, causing prices to drop. So no worries for long.
For now, governments are limiting exports to ensure they have enough food at home. China, Egypt, Vietnam, and India, which represent about one-third of global rice exports, curbed sales this year, and Indonesia did so as well.
Since rice is a poor man's food in many countries, constant increase in its price is freakin' unsustainable because there's a risk of social tension...,people will start to freak the heck out!
I agree with Sasha, that the difference btw Naija and here in the US is that the prices of these foodstuffs will eventually go down when the economy improves. It should also go down in Naija as well. At least, I hope so!
I just started reading your blog, Linda, and I think you are doing a fantastic job. I like reading about what's going on back home. I wish I could move back home to Naija cuz people keep telling me there are a lot of money to be made, and that I can make big doe. While I agree that folks, especially those that went to school abroad, are making it big, nothing will change my mind to move back until the Naija gov't fix the lack of security in that country. Armed robbers terrorizing a whole freakin' country. I want to be able to drive anyway I want at any time of the day or night. God bless America and the Federal Republic of Nigera!
Keep up the good work, and keep your blog constantly updated, Linda!
The food crisis is everywhere...yesterday I went to the International food store to buy to bags of rice...and guess what they told me ...they said because of the current scarcity of grains...I could only buy one box...nevr had such and experience since i've been in the US
actually prices are up everywhere... esp gas prices in Yankee... this blasted war and watever else bush is up to... they r callin it "economic recession"
God help us all... we must not recede in Jesus Name, Amen!
