Fashion - Do's and Don'ts

I am in an industry I'm extremely passionate about - The fashion, modeling and beauty industry. But then I went through my blog yesterday and realised I hardly blog about fashion, modeling or beauty...isn't that strange?

This is something I love talking about...My mag say FM&B (Fashion, modeling and beauty), so why doesn't my blog reflect that? Na only amebo I just dey here dey do...lol
From now on you guys will see a lot on fashion, modeling, beauty and health issues.

In fact I can safely say that this blog is about to get BIGGER, BOLDER & BETTER.
Lets start with fashion. I call this fashion do's and dont's
Over - accessorizing

Try and be as simple as you can in your dressing. Wearing many bangles, bracelets, necklaces, rings, belts, scarfs etc at the same time is a fashion don't. It makes you look like you're desperately looking for attention and it takes away class and style from your look. Instead...

Minimal accessories. Only things that go with what you're wearing.

Fake Jewelry

Fake jewelry is a no no. If you can't afford the original, then do not wear anything at all. Fake jewellery make you look cheap. Instead...
If you're wearing anything, let it be the real deal. There's something it does to your personality and sense of style

Black lip liner

This is a definite don't. I was once guilty of this. When lining your lips, avoid using a black lip liner as it makes you look clueless. Instead...

Find a colour that goes with the colour of your lipstick. Something subtle and sweet.

Micro mini skirt

Wearing a micro mini skirt make you look trashy. If you ain't performing on stage et al..then avoid it. It's not a look that tells a good story. Instead...

Wear an above the knee lenght skirt. This suggests a maturity in your sense of style

Very big bags

Alot of girls are guilty of this fashion faux. Extremely big bags are fashion don'ts. Except you are going for a weekend, or to the market, or a few days traveling and you don't want to carry to many luggages...but regular outing?...no, no, no. Instead...
Go for classy, chic bags that has alot of space in it and can take all your 'property'

Too tight clothing.
If you like fitted clothes like I do, it's ok...but please avoid clothes that are extremely tight. You will look cheap, trashy and shapeless. Some of us like to emphasise our figure, but don't over-emphasise it. Too tight clothing sometimes make you loose your real figure and expose some areas of your body people shouldn't even see. Instead...

Find clothes that fit your figure and brings out your shape.

Shoulder pads

I actually put this on my list because I saw someone wearing shoulder pads yesterday. This is old fashion and a definite no no in today's fashion. Leave shoulder pads for the base ball players

Over piercing
Some people do not have control over this. They don't know when to stop. If you must pierce, then do only the ears and belly buttons. Piercing the tongue, eyelid, upper ear, lower lip etc etc, is just not the way to go. Over piercing make you look like you have self-confidence issues and most people won't take you serious. There are definitely some places you can't enter with all that craziness. So avoid it.

I'll stop here today. I'll give you a part two in a few days. Hope you learnt a thing or two from this. Let me know what you agree or don't agree with.

Some of yur fashion ideas i would accept but on the case of big bags which some designers are going for these day, they would rather that celebrities are seen with their "shopper" bag or the smallest (clutch) of their products than the medium sized ones. (YSL, gucci, miu miu,Hermes are a few casing point)

I mean who wouldn't want to be seen with at least a 35cm birkin( I think any thing lesss than 35 is rubbish and a waste of money) or a the new ysl muse, down town and Tribute Tote range (saving hard for one)

come on !! shoppers bag are it these days.

Take for instance the anya hindmarch I AM NOT A PLASTIC BAG shopping bag, can you imagine all the fuss it made...people were dying to get their hands on one..

most designers are going big these days anything medium or small is considered these day as clutches or evening bags.

clutches are now becoming big too...example (Jimmy Choo Marin oversized clutch).

I agree with anonymous. Big bags are in. These bags automatically upgrade your look and acts as a focal point to your dressing.

lol linda, nice post.

i have never left a comment on your blog before, but i like this particular post and thot to comment.

i totally agree with you as per the shoulder pad bit of it. i mean WHT? shoulder pads in this day and age? abegi.

I have always carried big bags, although not too big o! buts thats because i seem to always have so many things to carry in my bag, so small bags just don't cut it for me.

nice fashion ideas Linda!...Im with you on most of them except for 3 which I have to disagree....

1) Big bags: Im echo-ing everyone else when they say big bags ARE stylish. My purse(fondly called "potmantoe"(sp?) by my friends) is the chic-est thing around(i think..lol) plus it holds all my belongings!...I can't seem to fit all my keys, makeup purse, wallet, camera etc. into a little purse...

2)Micro-minis: I think it has a lot of rules but it can still classy if done right. Rules such as making sure your butt is not hanging out when u bend over, and that you have the legs for it. Also as long as you wear a well covering loose/moderately fitted top and not too high/un'stripper heels, it looks ok.

3)fake jewelery: Thats a bit harsh now...especially if said person cannot afford real jewelery...so don't wear at all? Some imitations still manage to look classy, esp. if picked right and if its without all that fake stone bling-bling hullabaloo!..lol..

good job tho!

Linda, I don't agree with you on the 'fake jewelry' comment. I think that as long as the pieces are paired well, they could look very stylish and pretty. These so-called fake jewel pieces are available so that people can get a great look for less. Take a look at the celebrities you discuss all the time. Some of them don't wear diamonds even at red carpet events, but wear costume jewelry. Ever heard of some great jewelry designers such as Kenneth jay Lane, R.J Graziano? Please do some research!!

who told u big bags are a faux pas ? Big bags r so the in thing now and here...esp. among celebs...i rarely even see pple rockn the small lookn pouches u recommended. Big bags are chick and trendy, and besides u can fit a whole lot more in there.
I even like the big bag u posted there, and dat small one u got there looks trashy...is that supposed to be a knock off of Louis?

BTW, personally the only way i'll rock a small bag is it they were clutches....and many pple in the US the same...esp. celebs. Those medium sized ones r so old fashioned abegi!

We nigerians sef.Because big bags are in, does that mean we should carry big bags everywhere even when its awkward and not necessary?Yes, big bags r in now but i think it should be carried to places like offices, church etc.Definitely not dinners or parties or clubs.I think you'll look awkward with an empty big bag in such places.

As for micromini's, it depends on how u combine it ,not just wearing it because it's a micromini

As for lining your lips with the same colour oflipstick, what if you are wearing a light coloured lipstick like light pink, what do you line your lips with? Definitely not black, but what about light brown,2 match d colour my skin

Big bags are soooooooo in right now and that works so well for me cos i always have a lot of things i absolutely have to go out with. And minis dont always look trashy, you jusst have to know how to wear it. If you are in you teens or early tweenties (and have a fab body!) then you can get away with anything. But when you r older you can wear a mini but u cant show ur boobs or tummy or expose too much skin and u shouldn't wear them crazy too high heels! and u most have the legs for them of course .......which i have (hehe!)

BULLSHIT.
BIG BAGS ARE IT.A LOT OF DESIGNERS ARE INTO HUGE HUGE BAGS AND IT AINT FOR A WEEKEND GETAWAY.

lol... this black lipliner almost every nigerian girl was guilty of... hehe... and i saw black lipstick.. .mannnn... oh i love microminis.. i disagree with you on that.. i think depending on the occasion and the person.. they can be a hot look... i will be rocking minis into my thirties(well they'll get longer as the years go by) i disagree with you on the big bag thing... big bags are in in in... and i rock em to death... lol@ the extremely tight clothing.. babe you dont even want to get me started o this one... some ppl scare me with this... ppl still wear shoulder pads?! ewwww... i agree with overpiercing..but i dont think theres anything wrong with facial piercing at all... if you want an eyebrow or nose ring.. why the hell not? my rule of thumb is... dont get more than 2 facial piercings.. but i have seen ppl with 3 that rock it(only a few ppl can sha)... but hey whatever works for whoever... great post mami.. idefinitely agree with some of the stuff here... keep it rockin

I think micro-minis are hot & nor necessarily trashy. They only become trashy when you were them with heels in the DAYTIME. Or you pair them with an equally small blouse. Other than that, I think they're cute.
