Unemployed Perry Samuel, 35, suffocated his children Caitlin, 5, and Aiden, 3, described by their family as "two little angels".
They were found dead in the bath at the family home in the village of Bodelwyddan, near the resort Rhyl, last November. A post mortem found they had been asphyxiated.
Samuel pleaded guilty to murder at Mould Crown Court.
The children's mother, Sarah Graham, said Caitlin and Aiden would always live on in their family's hearts. "No prison sentence will ever be long enough to excuse taking away the lives of my beautiful babies or to justify the living nightmare that this man has put me and my family through," she said in a statement released by police. "Nothing can excuse what he did.
"We would like to thank the police for their help and sensitive handling of this case, and the local community for giving us their support to ensure that Caitlin and Aiden will never be forgotten by anyone who loved or knew them.
"Caitlin and Aiden will always live on in our hearts.
At the time of the killings, police said it was an isolated incident that had horrified the local community.
It's a sad world we live in.
