Uniuyo, Akwa Ibom mourn dead NYSC member Ukeme Monday

The faculty of Engineering students, University of Uyo Friday held a procession in honour of Ukeme Asuquo Monday who died during the ongoing NYSC Orientation exercise at Zamfara State. Ukeme Monday was a first class graduate and overall best graduating student of the university of Uyo in the 2010 matriculating set. Later in the day, the students in the company of the Special Assistant to the Akwa Ibom State Governor on students matters Miss Otobong Aquila visited the diseased compound at Etinan, Akwa Ibom State.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs was accompanied by the President Faculty of Engineering Comrade Bassey Bassey Friday and other student leaders and friends of the departed brother Uk Engine as he was fondly called.
When the guests were about to depart, Ukeme's Grandmother and his Mother said:

Grandmother:
"Ukeme You promised that  you will bring students to my burial and that the compound will not be enough to contain guest and well wishers. Oh Ukeme, I won't be able to stay alive and see you lowered six feet below the ground. Ooooooo dead I was the one that was supposed to die".
Mother:
"Ukeme you promised me that when you return from NYSC that you will take total care of me and take me to the best hospital for treatment. Hmmmmmm i know you are not the one they are talking about. You're not dead you only went for service I'm expecting you when your service year is over".
His mother told guests who came to mourn with them to greet Ukeme and also inform him that the mother is expecting him back Home sound and healthy.

Ukeme had promised his mother that he would renovate their house as soon as he completed his studies.

Can you imagine, someone graduated in 2010 and he just got deployed for national service in 2016. That's another devil to deal with after talking about the terrible deaths of the poor graduates.

The whole thing is just a small picture of a big big national problem - bad leadership begetting failed institutions.

Eyahhhh!! Soo sad

Uncle they didn't say he graduated 2010, he was matriculated into the school in 2010..

Not graduated in 2010, but matriculated in 2010. Read well and comprehend well.

Can we just acknowledge that we have collectively failed these young ones? I am angered by attempt by NYSC to imply that that young lady in the Kano orientation camp had died of pre~existing conditions. Times like this, I wished I were a lawyer so I can drag government 's ass around in court. That was adding insult to injury, but I know there is a living God.

@Daray Abbey, read very well. He matriculated in 2010 not graduated. I really feel for the family. Can only imagine wat it is to loose a bright son like this. Take heart grandma and mummy. God is never asleep.
Rip Ukeme

@Daray Abbey, u must be a big clown! Linda said he was the "Best Graduating Student" of 2010 MATRICULATING and not CONVO Set. It seems u need an health checked.

I think the story says 2010 Matriculating set and not 2010 graduating/convocating set.

Its so unfortunate that this young man was cut down in his prime. My condolences to the bereaved family. The NYSC has got more gains than losses those against its existence should think otherwise.

Zamfara is too far for a southerner naa...thats how they posted my sister to Gombe in the heat of crisis. Northerners should serve in the north biko.
