“Over the years importation has been restricted to the seaports because border authorities have found it difficult to effectively monitor and control importation of rice. When the decision to ban it rice was taken, it was not an effective measure because smuggling of the product thrives with people using different means of conveyance including small trucks, bicycles and even animals putting them on donkeys and some actually carry it on their heads. These new measures will be for customs to re-organize their anti-smuggling operations in the border areas and ensure that all those importers through the borders bring their rice through approved routes and pay their extant duty”he said

Halleluyah!!! Honestly Federal government's intention to ban rice importation was to encourage Nigerian to patronise locally produced rice but unfortunately those wicked local producers turned it into an avenue to increase the price and in turn make life so difficult for an average nigerian . Thank you Oga custom. Abakalii rice farmers ntoooooorrrrh!!!!!!! If una like make una de increase the price every day we are no more interested.

-D great anonymous now as Vivian Reginalds
It's quite unfortunate none of seem to get the real reason why the ban was lifted. The ban was lifted so that the price of rice will come down before Christmas so that people will thank the government for the price reduction. Bet before middle of next month, rice will sell for 13k or 15k
the person that wrote this have plenty sense .........Halleluyah!!! They lifted the ban because Anambra State have started producing rice and in large output. Until Dangote starts producing. The FED will barn rice importation definitely. Ndi ara

You just read my mind. God bless you!
Such a clueless idiot named president ,he banned importation of rice to taunt Goodluck , now it's biting him in the ass. Big fool
Enter your comment. Make dem add other things too o! Groundnut oil too dear!
Good news.
Na lie.
Christmas is round the corner, his Hausa brothers have already placed orders to import plenty rice. That should be arriving Naija shores very soon. Before the Ibos and other importers quickly rush to order, it will be late and customs would frustrate them die.
Guess who would suddenly be the sole sellers of cheap rice during this festive season....
Ban would be conveniently restored by February to continue Business as usual.
Hahahaaa! Trial and error administration. Shameless pilot. Just pray that this flight crashes not.
its just unfortunate, when an empty head struggle to hold on to power, power you don't know what to do with rather than to abuse it. we have fully adjusted to the local one, there's no point lifting any ban. my only prayer is that we will all exit this country for all them one day. so they can really do the reading, the buying and the selling all by themselves. 很笨的人。
Hope it will revert the price.senseless government!
OK but there is more to the hike. Were is forex to import?
Ilovemywife
This is a clueless trial and error government.thye are just doing this so they can say tomorrow that they have stabilised rice prices
Rubbish, clueless government, what have u achieved now, idiotic aand nonsensical president,u should have leave it to cover ur shame
It is ridiculous for a Country called giant of... to be so backward in simple economic Arithmetic of demand and supply. The government should not have banned rice importation in the first place rather would have encouraged and support local farmers production. By way of subsidy the local rice if is cheaper will lower the demand for the foreign rice and thus naturally reduce its supply. Anyway Daniel has come to court. However, Government should focus massive production of local rice, well processed and packaged and cheaper in this period of delisting the commodity from import restriction. Consistently demand for foreign rice will drop considerably.
This Freeborn, I hope you know the kind of unforgiving president you have, because Na firing squad o, if you're caught.
Will never buy Abakaliki rice even if a cup of foreign ris is sold 1k
