Sports Minister Solomon Dalung says no to foreign coach, says Samson Siasia will continue

NFF President Amaju Pinnick last week said the NFF will hire a foreign coach to take on the affairs of the Super Eagles as they aim to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia after missing out on AFCON 2017, but Nigeria's Youth and sports Minister Solomon Dalung has insisted that the trend of hiring and sacking coaches by the NFF must stop.

Solomon Dalung who spoke in Abuja to newsmen implied that Samson Siasia will be left to continue his job as the Super Eagles head coach.
“The hiring and firing of coaches is a problem, when shall we have an end to it? In my view, we place personal interest above national interest. You don’t access a coach with one match. You give him ample opportunity and generate correct data to access his performance. The hiring and firing of coaches just on one performance speaks volumes of senses of judgement and it does not augur well for our football. It must stop now,” said the sports minister.

Well said. Unfortunately my fellow Nigerians are an interesting bunch. That means arsenal should have sacked their coach siiiiiiice! The same way we are making so much noise over the performance of a 1 year government, comparing it to a government that was there for 16 years but who still blamed the past military governments for everything.

I quite agreed with the Sports Minister. This hiring and firing attitude of the NFF must stop in order to develop our football. NFF President must also tell Nigerians if our coaches are not good enough.

Charles said...

If the coaches are not good enough, NFF should enroll them for trainings rather than sacking them

Don't have anything against Sia One but I think we need to get a foreign coach for a change.

MR MINISTER YOU AND YOUR APC GOVT NEED TO LEARN SMART POLITICS....YOU CANNOT INFLUENCE NFF BY ANNOUCEMENTS IN LINDA IKEJI'S HEADLINE. LEARN QUICKLY!

Unknown said...

I don't really think that's what the minister meant, because if it is, then he's ignorant and should be tutored. Siasia is U23 coach and qualified for Olympics as best Africa's in that category, Olympics is months away, he can not be dream team coach and Super Eagles coach too, that's ignorance. Rather have him say NFF should look inwards for a local coach for super Eagles and if he force their hand in decision of who coaches the team, he must be prepared to take responsibility when they fail, and not inciting Nigerians against the federation. We can learn from Egypt and come back stronger.

Amaju just looking for more avenue to loot money since he's so used to free money... Lousiest muthafucker of a man! Please mr Pinick resign so we can hire a foreign NFF president

Anonymous said...

This sports minister doesn't know what he is saying. Did they say they are sacking Siasia? He is the under 23 coach for crying out loud and needs to concentrate on his job as the Olympics is just around the corner. I don't care if you hire a foreign or Local coach for the super Eagles, just don't imply that Siasia should continue with the Eagles at least for now.
