Simple arithmetic will tell you that if you have that structure, you are first of all doomed to spending 80 or 90 per cent of everything you earn maintaining public officers.

Exactly what I have been telling my friends. Most states are not viable and can't generate enough revenue to keep afloat without federal government allocation.
The best thing would be cancel out all the states and have the 6 geo-political zones. With zonal govenous. Restructure the local government merging some to make them bigger and viable.

What we don't need, however, are the 36 state assemblies, they are useless, rubber stamp bodies whose impact on their constituencies is almost zero. Let's only have regional assemblies who will make laws for only their regions for affective administration and to cut waste.

Really.the onus simply depends on proper decentralization of the so called or created heterogeneous states to strictly depend on their generated revenues internally and less dependent on the central control FG to enhance a healthy competition amongst them. Grants and allocations from the FG should be less emphasized on as it always becomes an easy share in their booty among themselves without actually utilising it for the purposes for which they are intended. Nigerians are actually waiting for this to take place. Thank you.
