The three Nigerians are Silvester Obiekwe Nwolise (39), Okwudili Oyatanze (40), and Spanish born Nigerian Raheem Agbaje Salami (45). They are facing execution alongside six other foreign nationals for drug-related offences by the Indonesian authorities.
Indonesian president, Joko Widodo,
rejected pleas for clemency, saying the country is suffering a drug
emergency and already, Indonesia’s attorney-general, Muhammad Prasetyo, says preparations have been concluded at the execution site were they are to face a firing squad.
It is unclear when the execution will take place, but yesterday, Australian Andrew Chan (31), his country man, Myuran Sukumaran (33), Ag baje Salami, and Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso (30) from the Philippines were moved to Nusakambangan, a high security prison island where executions are conducted.
Other countries with nationals to be executed are Brazil, France and Ghana.
At the meeting in the presidential villa where Indonesian ambassador Purwanto submitted
his letter of credence, President Jonathan pleaded with the Indonesians
for clemency for the Nigerians who were nabbed running drugs, while in
prison.
According to a source at the presidential villa who spoke anonymously because he is not authorised to
speak on the matter: “The president met with the Indonesian delegation
and was quite persuasive in making the case that a moratorium be placed
on the execution of the Nigerians on death row.”
The
source however said that the government is not coming out to make
statements or make a show about its efforts in trying to ensure that the
lives of the Nigerian citizens are spared because “in this political
season, if anything goes wrong during the negotiations, opponents of the
president would not consider the efforts put in and will simply make a
meal out of the issue.”
Other
countries, and even Amnesty International, have been pleading with the
Indonesian government to not go ahead with the planned execution. Brazil
postponed accepting the credentials of Indonesia’s newly designated
envoy in protest, while Australia called for a ‘reciprocation’ of the $1
billion 2004 tsunami aid package by sparing the lives of its citizens.

Election don remind this man what's required of a president. I'm honestly impressed with most of what he's been doing in the last 4,5weeks.
At least when he's voted out come March 28, he won't be a total failure of a president.

Good morning Dumbo!
Mr. GEJ, the Indonesian president does not abuse presidential pardons on criminals who knowingly break the country's laws on drug trafficking. Please concentrate your energies on more important issues.

Its not nice what these Indonesians are doing to foreign citizens. They should better there system so that drugs cartels cannot thrive, nobi to dey kill people to scare others away. By d way, for those Nigerians pls GEJ make dem nor kill dem with firing squad. Poison is better.

Indonesian president has already said they will not pardon anyone caught with drugs... no need to waste time negotiating. Why should anyone get involved in a dangerous business. This should serve as a lesson to all those trafficing drugs. If you get caught in Indonesia you die so stop. LOVE YOU LIFE MORE THAN MONEY.
Is execuation the panalty for drug offence, the way we are been treated outside country you will know racism still runs in the white blood..
...JOSHSAYSO..LIB..FAN
Why is it dat Ibos are always victims in stuffs like dis? Anytime u hear a crime is been committed in another country by Nigerians, there is no way Ibo pple won't be among nd its very bad. I knw Moni is gud bt I tink it's right time Ibo pple should cool down nd find beta alternatives of making moni dan for dem ending up in jail or worst been executed. I jst hope d president succeeds shaa. Wish them luck
Nice move, I hope it would be successful at the end of the day. Linda take note!
'Do not traffick drugs' Nigerian young men and women no dey hear! Asia does not take kindly to drug trafficking, won't be surprised if GEJ is rebuffed.
Indonesia is known for not sparing persons convicted of drug crime. The death sentence by firing squad has been placed on such offence, yet people still go ahead to engage in such criminal offences. A law is a law and must be obeyed, and if otherwise, its consequences must take its toll. Three foreign National were executed earlier this week by firing squad in that country.
Hmmmmmmm, I am not really in support of dis plead for dis drugs baron. For crying out loud if u do dis for them then other Nigerians wil commit dis same crime and wil say afterall our country wil plead for us.
How could someone in Indonesian prison peddle drugs?
This is the part where the incumbent has to show that he has the expertise and skills to protect the interests and lives of Nigerians in diaspora. I wish him luck as i also urge him to make fast decision on this issue. Just like Australia and Brazil, I believe the Nigerian Government can also make the use of diplomatic and or economic sanctions just to protect its nationals on death row in Indonesia....
I pray they listen o
This indonesians are mean o
Not in this case. Nigerians in diaspora in these regions have misused their opportunities and countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore have refused any diplomatic efforts by other countries in their affairs. They have a strict law on drug trafficking and a few others and they always go ahead with these deaths as planned. The last time Nigeria successfully overturned a judgement like this was in 2007 when Obasanjo begged. After that all his others pleas turned on deaf ears and (un)fortunately several deaths have taken place.
I wish him luck but frankly, I don't care. They know the law is strict in regards to drugs and they got bitten. What you see is what you get (wysiwyg).
I can't but just tie this so called negotiation for political gains, if truly GEJ cares, he had so many opportunities to proove that in past cases such as Nigerians killed unlawfully abroad ie Aisha Falode's son and many more. There are even many Nigerians held unjustly in various prisons around the world. Let him start from there
Omo! The good things ebele has done in the past few weeks of elections season...I can't even count em...na wa o!!!
This is after Indonesia executed 2 Nigerians and the Government said and did NOTHING! Now they are just waking up................ #toolittletoolate #voteforchange
I pray it work*
#GodblessNigeria
if he makes this happen I'll start respecting him bit by bit
The once that were sentenced to death before, what did you do?? Elections has suddenly made GEJ active. Thinking we would forget his docility in dealing with national issues. They may call these PR strategy, i call it hypocrisy
I think it is wrong to place huge emphasis on GEJ's ability to protect the lives and interest of Nigerian Citizens in diaspora, who willfully and knowingly travel to a well known country like Indonesia for the commission of a deadly offence like drug pushing, when they know the country's regime have very little regard for human life when people are caught for this offence. I think the argument should be for the Nigerian government to create more awareness about the consequences of committing such a crime outside the shores of our nation, especially in the countries with death penalty as punishment. We should look at options for curbing this kind of activities within our own shores, in order to protect and uphold the emerging positive image Nigeria now has in Diaspora.
If only Nigeria had a President like GEJ, BARTHOLOMEW OWOH (26),
LAWAL AKANNI OJULOPE (30) AND BERNARD
OGEDEGBE (29), wouldn't have died unjustly in that dictatorship era of Bokohari.
Oga Jona
Hope he succeeds
Nice one..
What about over a 100 they have killed in Malaysia? What about over a 100 that were killed in Indonesia? Most all this happen now that he needs our vote? When he his re-elected,then we are back to square one abi?
For your information, the new president elect of indonesia Joko Widodo will not spare the life of an American for this offence. Forget those guys.
Prayer changes things
hey fashion lovers, pls visit www.thestylecafe.blogspot.com. its awesome!
God please save there souls.... hear our pleas
GEJ abeg do ur vry best coz this indonesians no dey play with drug case atal
Not that easy but I wish him all the best.. I hope people learn from these
Nice move. Check out here for sports news
Na now he remembers? What about the many that have been killed unjustly or executed in foreign land the past 6 years. Two weeks to elections he is doing photo ops to manipulate Nigerians. Fucking hypocrite! Please collect your PVC an vote this bastards that don't have any morals OUT!
Ok..in dt case a 3daz dry fasting & 21daz mid9th prayers z require dt way Pharaoh ll let them gO
Yes but someone else has the final decision...bear in mind their strict laws against the offence commited...the incumbent has taken the right step as we can see...however if things don't work out well..don't blame GEJ for their crime pls
@oludele na wetin u talk! Who send them?
Anyway, it's a good move by the government. But, why were they not doing this before now? Only God knows the number of Nigerians that have been killed in the foreign lands. Why did the government have to wait till election time before waking up from its slumber?
I pray the plea doesn't fall on deaf ears. Its a great thing d president cares about the lives of nigerians in diaspora.
Nice move, I pray they accept.
THATSMY NEXT PRESIDENT.....
GEJ 2019
If Australia cannot negotiate (even with prison swap offer), it is our yeye government that will successfully negotiate? GEJ is just craving publicity at all cost.
Its a good move from GEJ buh den if the Indonesia president agrees , meaning he wud also hav to do so wit the rest from other countries...and dat wud sure be a hard knock to crack
(2015 MY YEAR OF LIB 100K)
For what? A wasted effort? Let them servants of Satan die and go join him in hell.
So many last minute functions. GEJ had his chance and failed woefully.
But why do we Nigerians keep doing drugs? Everybody knows that Malaysia doesn't tolerate drug trafficking. Well, I wish them well.
Redcandy
Igbo and their criminal tendency. There is nothing like Agbaje Salami. They are all Igbos. The three of them. Let them be executed so that other Igbos will desist from their criminality
It beat me hollow that when people commit crime knowingly they will be begging for forgiveness. Widodo is not ready to even listen to Australia, Brazil and the western countries. Talkless of nigeria.
#gbam...failed woefully as a matter of fact..
GEJ and his crew aren't optimistic that they will be granted clemency. He is already saying that if his pleas fails ...smh
The only thing the are sure of us that they won't lose election. Lol.
How come GEJ didn't do anything about Hospitals and people are still having to go abroad to treat even headache?
