PDP condemns Buhari's refusal to participate in Channels TV presidential debate

The PDP presidential campaign group has condemned Gen. Buhari for refusing to participate in yet another presidential debate, this one organized by Channels TV in conjunction with ARISE TV and NPAN. A statement was signed by the party's presidential campaign spokesman, Femi Fani Kayode
"We have been informed that General Buhari and the APC have decided not to participate in the NPAN-Channel Television-organised debate after they had earlier agreed to take part in it. We had thought that having withdrawn from participating in the debate organised by Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), they would have availed themselves this second platform. Now that they have also turned their back on this, it is now very clear that General Buhari is incapable of engaging in rigorous live television debates on the issues of governance.
It speaks about his intellectual laziness and his loss of touch with contemporary issues of development and statecraft. We would like to reiterate that the APC has something to shield about General Buhari. He has campaigned in some states of the federation attacking President Jonathan’s handling of insurgency, corruption and economy. Now there is a platform on which both candidates can engage each other on these issues and he (Buhari) is running away. It is a disgrace to the APC and their candidate that they would treat everybody with contempt.
The organisers of the debates are interested in promoting a robust culture of debates so that people can listen to the candidates and make informed choices on the basis of their arguments. We call on Nigerians to express their displeasure with General Buhari and the APC by rejecting them at the poll. This will be a just recompense for treating the Nigerian people and electorate with disdain”

GMB refusing to debate is a let down not only to himself but to entire APC. I remember 2007 between Koro and Fashola, many were to reject Fashola because of Tinubu who looted all Lagos State Funds. But during the debate, Koro was just saying I will do this or that just like GMB. However, Fashola presented a more comprehensive note on how he will tackle a state left in shambles by his boss but not mentor. He was able to convince the electorate and they voted for him. He would have done more for Lagos if not his godfather, thiefinubu. I urge BRF to swallow his pride and decamp to PDP. I know he will be welcomed.

Sometimes I wonder if FFK has children or other close relatives. If I happened to be his son, I would have dis fathered him long ago. His relatives should be ashamed of him, no reputation no matter how little and he hasn't learned to keep shut. Am sure he will be regretting his action to defect to PDP, wrong decision, your corruption case will be reopens in few months time. Though he will denounce GEJ after election and praise GMB again.

As a young Nigerian, reading through the comments of some youth on this platform as regards the issue on ground is heartbreaking. Why would one sheepishly follow a man who has turned down all avenue provided for him to make know his so called "change " agenda. I am not swayed by the incessant clamour for him to debate by FFK, but I do think we have a right to know what his plans are. The truth is we shouldn't be blinded by our distrust for the present administration and plunge into a bleak future. I do believe at this point we should vote for people with plans- I don't care if the so called people are not from the ruling and major opposition parties. Most Nigerians are beginning to present themselves as annoyingly gullible people- and it's sad.

Your train of change should pls carry you to Islamic republic of chad. We don't you here.

Seriously speaking though, why should somebody that may become the next president of Nigeria be too scared to face his opponent in a debate? ANS- GMB (General Malu Boy) doesn't have the mental capacity to do so, he's too old and too fickle and i can't understand his hausa-accent english. GEJ till 2019!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Buhari doesn't have the answers to Nigeria's problems. The change we seek can only come from within (each and every one of us). GMB will prolly drop dead in the first 3 months in office. he's too old and too dull

Yes. Buhari don't need any debate with Mr president. Where was Mr Jonathan at the last election, did he debate with GMB ? No. He should to hanged out with dbanj same time debate was going on with other candidates. Buhari is a popular candidate now, so he need not sit with anybody to make his manifesto known to Nigerians

It's a pity that some of our youths still believe that their grandfather who had the opportunity to prepare a Golden bed for them and failed to offer even a Bronze would now come and bring a Change. A man who over- thrown the first $ best democratic govt Nigeria ever had. Why can't he come out and tell us what CHANGE he's bringing and how he INTEND bringing it.

Where was your phd holder in 2011 when Buhari attended the debate? Thank God debate is not one of criterias to become the president. Your spoke man Fkj or whatever name you call him should be more thinking about his money lundring criminal case coming up this month Feb.22 and 23 according efcc lawyer Kyamo.
