Photos: Nnamdi Azikiwe Uni students design formular student race car

Five final year students of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, have designed and fabricated a formula student race car as a passing out project. Yep, they did.The students are Okoyenta Augustus, Okeke Chukwuebuka, Ezeani Chikeluba‎, Ofoegbu Kenechukwu, and Igbokwe Ebenezer. (all pictured above). Continue to see more photos...

The car was designed under the supervision of Dr. S C Nwigbo. The project took about a year and six months to complete, with the students working under severe condition in regards to power supply, poor machinery and attending lectures. But they never backed down, and have achieve this incredible feat.‎

Here are photos of the car's exhibition in the presence of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ahaneku and other dignitaries from the school.

Did they call it 'formula student' or you mean to type formula 1? anyway this is huge to me, I'm a big formula 1 fan and its so nice when I'm reminded how intelligent Nigerians can be, I really wish we have a government that understands how big a deal this is, all you have to do is give these guys proper funding and a decent platform and just seat back and let them blow your mind with creativity. So so proud of them, these are the type of dudes that make you proudly say you are a Nigerian!

Who will support their dreams? It must be Govt alone individuals and private organisations could support them as well. They could design Range Rover someday.

This is very Good, I am glad to see young engineer spending time in research and development, even though the country doesn’t fund research and development. Being a software engineer and developer I know the amount of work that’s has gone into this project. Congratulations. I hope someday Nigeria will fund Research in Engineering like football

World leading cars started like this.
A good missionary is not one who found his Rome a city of stones but one who makes sure that those stones are transformed to marbles and granites.
Nigerian govt and private individuals should ensure that these ideas don't end on school project level but should be metamorphosed to what a real vehicle will be by international standards. There is hope for this nation and this , I believe in.
My cap I doff for everyone that has the genuine interest of this country at heart
Shalom.

Firstly, i want to thank social media, because through this means, a lot of things have come to the lime light. People like this deserve the commendation and backing of everyone (govt, private bodies and society at large) to inspire them to do more. In my time there where lots of creative minds and genuine designs but our reward was just the grade and nothing else... My final year thesis still sits in my HOD's office as an exhibition and nothing else.......?

Please, who died and made you a judge?

THIS IS AN INSULT TO ENGINEERING!!!
Absolute balderdash.

KekeNAPEP engine and car tires. Where is the engineering process in this?

UNIZIK Dept of Engineering should demand an unreserved letter of apology from these students for making mockery of Engineering and most importantly, common sense

If only our government and thieving politicians would give just 1% of their loot to fund research, just 1% to encourage young, hardworking, talented and creative individuals, our Nation will be definitely be better for it. But no, they will rather loot all our nation's resources and then hide it in an offshore account. They purchase properties in all the continents which they may never live in. A single individual will acquire the wealth of a nation, if only they could purchase life with all the wealth acquired, then it will make complete sense why they keep loot and hoarding the resources of a Nation. At least it would make sense that with such wealth you can keep buying life and would live forever to enjoy the wealth. But the truth is that we would all die someday and not a kobo will follow us to the grave. We will return to the dust from hence we were formed and our souls will go back to the creator to give account of how we sojourned while on earth. I never intended to write this long comment but as I started to write the thoughts just poured out. Congratulations to the young men for this awesome work. I pray that they don't lose focus and that they get the much needed support that will enable them grow.

This is a revelation of a lot of potentials this useless government might have killed by looting our treasury instead of developing our educational system. Even their children studying abroad cannot build only tyre and yet spend a lot of public money on them.Ministry of science and technology, what are u waiting for?
