Ugandan President mocks Pres. Jonathan for accepting international assistance

He actually made an ignorant statement (my opinion). While speaking at a campaign rally recently, Uganda’s President, Yoweri Museveni mocked President Jonathan for accepting foreign assistance to help fight Boko Haram. The former guerrila fighter said he'd rather commit suicide than ask the international community to protect his people against terrorists
“I have never called the United Nations to guard us. Me, Yoweri Museveni to say that I have failed to protect my people and I call on the UN: I would rather hang myself. We prioritized national security by developing a strong Army, otherwise our Uganda would be like DRC, South Sudan, Somalia or Nigeria where militias have disappeared with school children.
“It would be a vote of no confidence in our country and citizens if we cannot guarantee our security. What kind of persons would we be?” He said

I have been reading this your blog for years and this is the first time I am commenting; You Linda are an ignorant FOOL for saying that the Ugandan president's comment is ignorant. What he spoke is the gospel truth. Go and check your brain before you express stupid 'opinions'. Or you don't think that national security should be a PRIORITY of any government. Iranu oshi. Or you can't see that we have a failed government, to the extent that ordinary Uganda can now boast that it's army is better than ours. Anybody that insults Nigeria at this point should not be coined ignorant. If our government respects itself and does what a government ought to do for its people then nobody will open their mouth to compare us to common Sudan or Somalia. So please as you are doing this blog be respecting yourself and make intelligent opinions on your blogs, don't be disturbing my gossip/news reading experience with nonsense comments.

What you just said is what the north want you to say and they are investing a lot to make all of us confuse and hate the GeL! So keep your head up bcos no body from the south can do better than Jonathan! As long as you arer not from North you will find it hard to rule Nigeria!

Unknown said...

Uganda president is saying d gospel truth, GEJ has shown to us all that he was not prepared to be d president of this country, was he xpecting to just take d juicy part of presidency and leave d challenges out, he must be very unserious. See wat he has turned nigeria into in d eyes of the world, a country govern by incompetent president with so much corruption. It's a shame. Am not a politician, am a responsible citizen of this country and I respect my leaders but for GEJ, am sorry he is not just there. He has lost my respect for him. He has tried in the area of economy but I will say authoritatively dat he is a failure, wat is he going to say he achieve during his tenure as president in 20 years time. Every responsibility comes challenges. GEJ has failed his country. This is my take on this issue

Anonymous said...

How does this statement got to be ignorant? Face it Linda the man make sense die! That Jonathan or whatever he is Has failed more than woefully! That same area which the abduction took place should be heavily guarded and killings shouldn't be happening there again. but No! He is the one who have 5000 soldiers securing him and not one is available to secure a community. And u say the ugandan president made an ignorant statement. The man is so on point.

Richard said...

Linda,if only you will post my comment, then you might eventually share my views.I don't think his speech is ignorant but when you put a whole lot of work in your national security then you can say this. There are so many presidents that will say this in south America and North America but only one President will say this in Europe and thats Vladimir Putin. As a President, your national security should always be your priority and not something of debate.

Anonymous said...

I completely agree with you. Governments all over the world exist primarily for two reasons; to provide social amenities and to protect lives and property. So where GEJ's govt. has failed to deliver either of the above, he is fully deserving of mockery and condemnation and should do the noble thing by resigning.

rejoice said...

He is one to talk. He shouldn't use Nigeria to score cheap points. Is Uganda not the host of the dreaded Lord Resistance Army LRA which have been terrorizing the North of Uganda for years

Anonymous said...

Let him face what jonathan is facing, then will he know what's up...

Anonymous said...

I think you are a little bit stupid with this comment

Anonymous said...

Give it whatever interpretation you want, it could sound derogatory but it is a fact. The primary responsibility of government it to protect lives and properties of individuals. Nigerian government has failed woefully in this regard. If the president is asked to resign his die hard supportes will draw out arrows and daggers, this still does not change the fact that this government has failed hence the playing of all defensive cards; consipiracy card, spiritual card, we are on top of the situation card, APC wants to distablise the country card, terrorism is global card, the international community should come and help us card, black list BH card { as if they care} all these cards have failed to secure the nation. We do not have a competent and capable leader period! I do not see things changing for the better under this same man! We need a change! Fast too!

Anonymous said...

Am sorry to say this, but he has a valid point here. And no matter how bitter we feel about his comments, we must learn to swallow the bitter truth with Kunu. Am not criticizing GEJ, buh dis dude looks so helpless and cluless right now.

The man makes a lot of sense. Jonathan has no business being president. And even more ridiculous is that he has eyes on 2015.

Unknown said...

Linda,
President Museveni is right in a way! Is it not an irony of fate calling for supports from International countries to come and keep peace in Nigeria? Recall Nigeria has embarked in the past on various peace keeping mission in other African countries and priding ourselves as giant of Africa. However,If one examine the magnitude and complexity of the insecurity problem in Nigeria manifesting from Boko Haram, one would no doubt conclude that we need external support to come out of this security doldrums we currently find ourselves in Nigeria.

But the idiot, Museveni, is lying through his teeth. Jonathan did not call the UN to protect Nigeria, all he did way to ask that Boko Haram be blacklisted, which is part of the the fight against them. Secondly, the very minimal foreign troops that have arrived so far from the US, and may be UK, are not here to protect the generality of the populace, but to help bring the so called kidnapped girls back.
Now let me refer the lying idiot of a president what the US has done and are still doing in terms of the Lord Resistance Army, the rebel group that his so called strong army has failed to stamp out for donkey years. I know for sure that the US sent in a few number of troops to the Ugandan forest to assist the Ugandan army in capturing the leader of the gorilla army. Who requested for and embraced the assistance of the US, if not Museveni.

Finally, who in his right senses well compare the situation as it is in a country of about 36m people with that of over 160m people?

The man, Museveni, is just a joke. I don't take seriously statements made by dictators who have reduced their country to nothing more than their fiefdoms where they reign supreme with impunity. Museveni, used to be a good and strong leader, but not anymore. He has allowed power to take a strangle hold of him, and does not want to relinquish it, except over his dead body.

Rwanda president is only mocking your president but from the comment y'all give I think the world should agree we all should be mocked. Book haram is an internal emphasis on internal terrorism that our government is not strong enough to handle not capable to protect its citizens, yet we call ourselves giant of Africa. It is a big slap on our government and prove of a failed government.

Don't get me wrong we need the un in handling this issue at this stage it is. but this all could have been avoided if only we had capable government who can protect it's citizens.

Its so funny when some of our so called leaders in this continent try to grandstand & we give them the desired space by discussing their ignorance. Mtcheww

Idiot u already have HIV as your terrorist, pls deal with that....and stop making noise, u have got so much help from UN.

Anonymous said...

The anonym at 7:56pm, shut ur trap there, please. Mr know it all. It's always easy to sit in the comfort of your little space and criticize others. You definitely need to have your brain checked. No matter how bad a president of a country may be, it's rarely you find the citizens of that country sit idly by while a foreigner is casting aspersions on their president. If you don't defend what you have and leave it prone to attack from all manner of jesters, on what feet are you going to stand in the congregation of people of the world?

Show me that government that has successfully defeated terrorism, and I willing show you a completely utopian society. Western world with all the advances in science and the might of its military, is still susceptible to acts of terrorism. We all know about the 9/11, London train station bombings, numerous terror acts in Russia, the recent terror acts in China. I could go on and on and enumerate several terror acts in the western world. The truth of the matter is that no government can claim that it has provided adequate security to its subjects against terrorism, taking into consideration the nature and modus of terrorists. These are faceless people that live amongst the law abiding citizens and they don't go about with the word terrorist so written on their faces. A government could try to provide sum semblance of security against terrorist, but cannot guarantee full protection.

I believe, that it is very disingenuous for so many of you to blame Jonathan's government for not protecting the masses from terrorism. The seed of boko harm way sowed several years ago before Jonathan ever dreamt of becoming the president. For you now to expect him to wave a magic wand and eliminate the bokos in one fell swoop, is to say the least, very disingenuous.

It is unfortunate...
To have said this, it is clear that Moseveni is a hopeless moron...
Current Islamist Terrorism is not a domestic affair simplicita, but an international one....
Islamist terrorists derive their financial and logistical support from international sources that include Saudi Arabia, the principal supporter of terrorism the world over, and other Islamic nations, as well as local politicians and of course the network of terrorist cells across the globe...
They also derive mentor-ship and spiritual backing from the school of Islamic clerics, both local and international---I mean the sheiks, Imams, among others.
Terrorism is clearly transnational...
Sadly, Moseveni is only playing to the gallery; playing bad politics by leveraging on the travails of a fellow African president to score cheap political point...
Don't joke with Islamists...
They have brought whole government and nations down...
The advances they have made in Nigeria had created an emergency situation against which the president was humble enough not to court brinkmanship, but cry out for international support to fight the transnational monster called Islamism!!!!
I doff my hat for his humility...
Call it weakness; I call it wisdom...
An emergency situation, calls for a smart emergency initiative...
And this action by the president is one of such!!!!!!
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Moseveni is a FOOL!
