The prize, which is chosen by 600 book critics and editors from major publications, is among the most prestigious literary recognitions in the world.
The award was presented to her yesterday at a function in Manhattan, USA. Congrats to her. Meanwhile the book was also shortlisted for the Bailey's Women Fiction Prize.

Whatever! Her nasty and cocky attitude is a huge turn off. It's disappointing when the scales fall off your eyes over one you hitherto admired.

Naija ladies should lookup to you as a role model and forget about exposing and brandishing their bodies to seduce men. they should forget prostitution and start exploring and deploying their gifts instead of their bodies.

Y she no go win? Wen she criticise law against homos 4 naija in support of us. I think it's compensation for that particular critique and not for africanah. Just my opinion though!

Wonderful, examples people that promote us as a country internationally
Dis lady is realy soaring like an eagle o... am so so happy for her achivmnts. @ least we av a positive representative of nigeria
her write-up against Nigeria gay law might have pleased these foreign book reviewers and editors.

Congrats to her. Still on the nomination list for the Bailey award. At least if you wan write book, write the one that will be widely acclaimed. More grease to her elbow.
Noted..!!!
Umu Ada igbo di fantastic
Next thing you know, Nigerians will want to claim her. She can hardly be considered Nigerian and doesn't consider herself one, except when asked of the origins of her skin color. So this news really doesn't concern us. Okay? She's like chiwetel. Didn't give a fuckkk or care about Nigeria, doesn't even come from there. Okay??
Smh.
Congrats!
Am so proud of Chim-ama-nda.«
Good one. Thanks for making us proud. May God bless more Nigerians wit such talents dat makes one stand out both nationally and internationally. God bless Nigeria

Wow!!
Congratulations to her.
I love the way she writes her novels.
wow. .
she deserved. it
Wow!! She just keep getting recognized everyday.... So happy for her
I have no iota of respect for this lady anymore especially since she showed several silly inclinations to prove she is properly westernized and to curry the support and patronage of the western world. First Is her support for homosexuals/ lesbians and then the silly issue of not wanting to be referred to as Mrs ( I've seen African women add their fathers names to their surname) but she took it further and refused to be addressed as a Mrs talk less of bearing the silly white mans name (notice he always has a sheepish look) so for all this I say and sincerely so, she should sit on a pile of glowing hot coal all life long
Wow, congrats girl.
9ja as realy gotten lots of talented writers
lindodo,do U no of TOMI ADESINA,y nt check on ar,mayb u could start posting ar SERIES here weekly on ur blog, bet U gonna like ar stories too

Congrat
One of the women doing big things!!! I'm encouraged! Congrats Miss Chimamanda
Kudos to her and more grease to her elbow.
Maybe she won the award cos she's good at what she does. And just maybe the gay bill really is retarded! Ever looked at it that way?
Nasty? Cocky? Never got that vibe from her.
Confident is what she is, my dear. There's a difference.
U try abeg
I love this lady. I love the way her secure up bringing is reflected in her confident attitude. Her parents are one of a kind in Nigeria , inequalities in health and socio gradients are what fosters the poor self esteem most Nigerians have. It's so ingrained that most of them don't realise they have a problem. This lady has lived in the US and UK yet her accent is nigerian . She doesn't have the need to adjust her accent like some copycat pointless homophobes because her intelligences has an accent that speaks for its self. And when she speaks, hmm, the World listens. She has a God given talent. Which she has shared with the world. God has blessed us in his image so we have to be creative. Not destructive , that's of satan.
So this is why she antagonise the anti-gay bill by Nigerian govt all in the name of awards & accolades..or linda u 4got 2 publish dat as well....chimamanda said "I was horrified by the law" just imagine
I love this; glad that Nigerians are coming up again in the world of literature. I method of publicity; gay speech, perspective speech, femininity speech, African-ness speech etc might not appeal to most of us, but it is working for her. Congrats girl.
Fool! have u care to read the book? She is industrious! Give it to her! She is the best. Who give a damn to what u think.
All of you saying that she made a speech in favour of gay rights to win this award are just showing your ignorance. Do you know how many awards she won before she made that speech? Do you know how many years she has been speaking in favour of equal rights for women and gays? Your cynical and backward attitudes would be hilarious if it were not so sad. Here is a nigerian woman, proud of who she is and where she comes from, projecting a positive image of our country in the international sphere, something we desperately need to counter the fraudulent and corrupt impression that the world has of us and all some people can do is accuse her of pandering to the "white" man by expressing her views. And another ignorant poster put her in the same category as Chiwetel saying that she does not live here or acknowledge where she comes from, when she is one of our greatest ambassadors. I really feel for our country if the negative views expressed here are the views of the majority. I don't necessarily agree with everything Chimamanda says or does but that does not take away from the fact that we as Nigerians should take pride in her achievements and hold her up to our youth as someone to emulate in terms of the excellence of her craft.
Your comment is this most pathetic one here.seriously are u of this era?nah I doubt it.am sure the last book u opened in weeks is newspaper, damn,u are obviously yet to read any of her book.Aside this u haven't ever and will never write even a children story book. There is a lot of growing need here not just u buh indeed all u that believe that the west holds sooo much power over ones destiny. As bitter as it may sound her success is felt there cos the west reads book,do research analyse before concluding.Africans don't read hence their baseless and anoying comments.Liberate urself from mental slavery was echoed in d walls of Bob marley for Africans and indeed your likes.
My view:
It was a narrow myopic book based on her own ignorant experiences when she arrived in the USA. It gives your average, curious Americans an insight into black people's minds (they think)..e.g. a handbook they have been searching for all their lives... ha ha
Thus awarded for this unoriginal work..
Everyone best start writing about your experiences in Mushin/Ajegunle and push your own agenda (e.g. natural hair)...
you may just win an award!!
With so many women gladly professing themselves ribs, necks, helpers and supporting actresses in marriages, Chimamanda speaks for the ones from another school of thought. She said nothing shocking in voicing her support for gay rights. What's wrong with a little diversity in thought and approach to living life?
I'm telling you oohh. You got me rolling on this! I have no respect for that senseless cheap biko. Every negativity concerning Africans will sell n get many accolades from ndi'ocha.. i am waiting to celebrate none other but our very original Linda Ikeja... Your day is coming, CNN, ophara Mail online, N them Media take out.. lin bekee biko sugar am suntin. [SHB]
I wasn't surprised to see people comment on the " gay and name change issue" and use that to denigrate a hardworking young and enterprising lady that has brought so much
accolades to this country of hypocrites with
so many of us giving the country a bad name
world over with our corrupt and criminal
tendencies in spite of our so called "Christianity and Religiosity". No wonder we are faced with so much xenophobia all over the world because we are always so opinionated and find it difficult to understand divergent views. Chimamanda did not outrightly support gay rights she was
advocating a more humane approach in
tackling a social issue. While I am totally
against gay marriages and support its being
out lawed I don't think it is right to criminalize
gay relationships which could be as a result
of physiological or sociological
maladjustment. We do not have enough
studies yet to conceptualize this issue. If we
believe its criminal then we should be
criminalizing fornication and adultery.What
then should we do with hemaphrodites? Tie
them to the stake and burn them? Or is it
because hemaphrodites have a visible
physical manifestation that we have not
proposed a law against them? What about
co-joined twins etc? These are all
abnormalities of nature. We should be
thinking of how to help not hurt. Secondly if
she decides to keep her maiden name whose
business is it? Has changing name made
Nigerian marriages work? If I could even
borrow from one of the greatest -Shakespeare "what is in a name?" We should
be proud of our people who have written their
names down in the sands of time and stop all
these "pull her down syndrome". If we are
unable to make a difference where we are we
should appreciate those who have. By the
way for those who have compared her with
Chiwetal, Chimamanda was born and bred
here in Naija, grew up in the rusty old town of
Nsukka escaped the bondage (to her) of
being first a doctor then a pharmacist (yes
she got admitted to both schools) but
decided to follow her star to the literary world
where her destiny for greatness lay. She relocated like so many other Nigerians because of this environment that stifles originaluty but comes quite often to Naija (
saw her recently at Terra culture) and
remains humble and down to earth in spite of
her success and what people think. Go on
soun "Ngozi" we who appreciate you are
solidly behind you!
Typical, what else after the support for gay rights.
What else can I say if not 'Congrats' . But dat doesn't mean dat am still ur fan. I use to be but not again
Wat else can I say if not "Congrats". But dat doesn't mean dat am ur fan. I use to be but its over between us.
Adadioramma...well done.
