Photos: Ondo state Immigration Service nab baby factory operators

An alleged baby factor syndicate operated by a couple, Mr and Mrs Abiodun Ogundeji operating in Ilutuntun, Okitipupa Local Government area of Ondo State was on Wednesday Jan 29th busted by the men of the Ondo state Command of the Nigerian Immigration Service.

Acting on a tip from the Force headquarters Abuja as well as the Imo state command, the Controller General of the state command, Musa Hassan, said the baby factory had been running for 5years. 21 people including the couple running the factory, pregnant women as well as some nursing mothers were arrested in the building. Continue...

Reacting to her arrest, Mrs Happiness Ogundeji denied all allegations levelled against her stating that she was only running a herbal hospital and the women who were arrested were her patients. She said she runs a dredging and construction business, De- Choice Construction Comapany in Ore and has 3 filling stations in Port Harcourt Rivers State. Her husband Abiodun Ogundeji feigned not knowing of his wife's business saying that he only knew her to be into Construction as well as oil and gas. He said he was a Civil Engineer with Chevron, Rivers State.

Most of those arrested refused to speak to reporters but however said anonymously that they were all impregnated in Imo state and then transferred to Ondo state. Upon delivery, their babies would be taken away from them to an unknown place by Mrs Ogundeji .
They are all currently at the Lagos office of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and Other Related Matters (NAPTIP)

You see, crime knows no barrier and is not restricted to one tribe. After una go talk say na only ibo dey commit this crime pass. I wonder how people can engage in this crime and sleep peacefully. Yesterday I saw a new born baby again and realised how innocent and helpless they looked. God help us all.

They were impregnated in imo state? Naturally or through IVF? I believe these ladies are surrogates. Nigeria should strengthen adoption procedure and the law should be clear on IVF and/or surrogacy. Until these 2 are taken care of, we will continue to hear of baby factory. Chyachebe

Seems this is more of a 'police' job..all d same thank God they've been nabbed. I'm so sure the couples have skeletons in their cupboard cos There is no way an engineer in a leading oil company will descend so low to either run a herbal home or a 'baby factory'.

Our adoption program is a fail. As most couples wanna adopt infants only. Coupled with our failed aconomic system. This business flourish because there r obviously couples who need kid. Rather than thowing these ppl in jail, goverment should find away around this. Ie following up on an adopted kids well fare as well as making sure the biological parents are in sound health. My only concern are ritualist who might patronize the business for fetish purpose.

And where are those self righteous Yorubas who blame the Abia syndicate on Igbo love of money. Evil no sabi ethnic divides. Hope you know that now.

Anonymous said...

@g, I love ur comment. Best so far, trust me dis is one of d obnoxious act nigerain government pushed d masses into. People are suffering, much pains and agonies av been inflicted on us. I think following this up will definitely be d best. Thanks

Hmmmmm na wa oooo

Anonymous said...

When there is demand...supply must find its way #basiceconomics....this crime will be difficult to stop and it's not restricted to any tribe

Anonymous said...

Idiot, they were impregnated in Imo

Unknown said...

What a shame our country is heading for the rocks

Anonymous said...

The government should make genuine adoption easy in Nigeria cos some couples need that just like some abandoned kids need a home. If this is done the baby factory thing will collapse, but as long as d country continue to make it difficult it will definitely not stop cos people will b ready to part with tonnes is money to have a child.
