Redeemed Church to build 3-kilometre long church auditorium

The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, announced last week, through its General Overseer Pastor Adeboye that they will build a three kilometre long auditorium because the current one they have now, Redemption Camp, on the Lagos-Ibadan Express Way in Mowe, Ogun state which was built in 2000 with a capacity to sit one million people, could no longer accommodate the millions of people who attend service there.

According to pastor Adeboye, the new auditorium will be built at the mission’s camp ground at km 46, Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Some Nigerians are already criticizing the plan saying the billions that will be spent in building this auditorium, which will only cause more queues along this express way, could be used for other things, like hospital, school, farmland, anything that will provide employment - but then, bringing more souls to the Lord is a good thing! :-)

A 3km auditorium is pretty wide. Do you know how long it will take you to walk 3km? 35 minutes.

When Redeemed builds this auditorium, it will be one of the top10 churches in the world in area size.

the people that keep criticizing should go find something else to do.. they do not know what the church has done to help provide employment.. only the church cannot help solve the problem of unemployment and other problems Nigeria is facing.

3KM aint a Joke, and I just can't believe the main auditorium can't contain worshipers anymore, Well We need more of God in this country than any other thing and people should stop saying bullshits about REDEEMED CHURCH building other things, like hospital, school, farmland, anything that will provide employment, That is the work of the Government, We have money in this country that can turn Nigeria around, but where is all the money ? present with our Ogas at the top, sharing it like its the last Supper! Church money is far from from government money, so asshole should stop there critics abeg.

U don't have to hold office to do kind things for the less priviledged. B4 now, church built missionary schools and hospitals and made it free for the masses unlike unaffordable schools that we have now,I think that the Jesus we claim to serve will not bless u if u decide to help the needy. For once, let Nigerians stop pretending and speak the truth as it is. Our pastors are also human, they don't know it all, they are not God,let's stop treating them as such

It is time for churches and other tax free organizations to start GIVING back to it's members.

If they refuse to give back, start TAXING them.

Churches should Stop Trying to be the BIGGER church......give back to your improvised members.

Imagine after giving tithes, offerrings, building offerrings, thank you offerings, etc. The church will then SELL you common pure water. PURE WATER!

To those criticising, take a minute and think, then u will appreciate the roles of prayer and Religion in our nation,do u know that half of what happens in Nigeria presently doesn't happen in any other part of the world without leading to war or civil unrest?

Please let us appreciate the Prayers and Roles of the rightous and even be challenges to serve God more.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God has a hospital with state of the art machine to scan for cancers in women,my church (RCCG Promised land) feeds 100s of people weekly and pays for peoples needs thru a church programme, the churches are trying... They can only aid/help the government in making life better for citizens and not REPLACE the government and the government duties.

''Some Nigerians are already criticizing the plan saying the billions that will spent in building this auditorium, which will only cause more queues along this express way, could be used for other things, like hospital, school, farmland, anything that will provide employment'' Linda am absolutely agree with the critics. The issue is with our system is that we as Nigerian are always carried away, however lets don't forget one thing, Christianity was introduced to us by foreigners( Westerners) they worship God and pray all the time, but as a Nigerian my tot is this, our pastors have totally commercialized Christianity to a great extent. I can't judge pastor, but God will some day. Secondly, it start from our government that has fails us terribly bad, imagine if all homes can have stable electricity supply, affordable health care, Jobs, and security I wonder if they will ever think of building 3 km auditorium. People run to churches thinking they will find solace, its comes from the heart. Have faith in God and Jehovah will certainly provide. Redeemed Church built a school for the rich and affluent in Nigeria where am sure majority of their members can't afford, now they are considering building a big auditorium for members... My fellow country men opeb ur eyes.....

If i could remember very well, in the early 60's the church built schools but what was the end result?the government took over and tell me the outcome of their actions. please if you don't have anything meaningful to say, why not keep your stinking mouth shut..oro riru....may God help you to think straight. el-vincie

Dear Linda,
A blog such as yours can now afford people who will research your stories for you.
1. The RCCG current auditorium is not even a 2million seater. It sits much more than that. Send a query requesting last convention's attendance figures from the national head usher at www.rccg.org
2. The RCCG has over 250,000 in it's paid employment. Pastors, Administrators, Security Men/ Women, Nurses, Midwives, IT people, Media People, etc all over the globe majority of which are NIgerian residents.
3. The RCCG is committed to several corporate social responsibility causes. Health checks / Medicals, HIV/AIDS, Drug rehabilitation, Mental health / psycho rehabilitation, etc
4. Considering the wave of moral decadence and end time occurences, the RCCG is a formidable church, raising an army of true believers, prepared for heaven. Just like a true parent, Pastor E A Adeboye mentors, however he can't be responsible for the choices some of his members make.
5. There are over 10 entrances to the redemption camp. The traffic situation is because the Ogun State government has failed 2 recognise the need for it to do it's own part in easing traffic by creating more road divisions/ diversions around that area. The RCCG single handedly tarred a diverion from the camp to a village in Shagamu.
5. Finally, Pastor Adeboye is a wealthy man of God. However, the RCCG is too big a mission not to have a system of accountablility for church funds in place. The Man of God is even excited about retiring, Adeboye Money is different from RCCG Money.

Wow. It's funny how people keep on criticising the people that God has ordained. Only if more Christians were aware of the Great Commission. If people can complain that money is going into building the house of God, where people can worship Him (which is the main reason we live and breathe), I wonder how much the devil has corrupted the minds of men. The Redeemed church is helping thousands of charities all over the world and helping to clothe, feed and house people. This is amazing news. God bless Pastor Adeboye and the RCCG. Sunday you have asked the most pertinent question: are the worshippers true born-agains or mere church-goers? With the size of the current auditorium and the masses that flock there everyday, have we seen any surge, not matter how small, in Christ-like behaviour? NO. So, like you have rightly said, this is merely an attempt at being noticed and probably beating a world record. My 2 cents!

The kind of comments here shows a lot of people are high on opium as Karl Marx claimed. The unfortunate thing here is that 1billion naira donation can only come from a politician or any of their lieutenants as well as those close to government. I'ld av been very happy if he followed that announcement with a caveat that all politicians, government workers and all custodians of people's money like the Cecelia ibru, erastus akingbola, etc who have siphoned money from govt purse are exempted from this contribution. After all how many genuine business men or women would donate 1billion naira just like that. A lot of people came to the campto beg God for jobs, so 1billion naira or more wLD answer their prayer. 1% of those who were there came to sell wares and sundry items so as to make ends meet. Some people are so high on opium that they think the man of God can never be wrong.

Yes,I attend RCCG and even more of one those high-end model parishes on d Island and I don't want to start reeling out their CSR.Even d LASG had to give them some waiver on a particular project they are embarking on,just because they got overwhelmed by the level of their generosity to the society.

So,what is d big deal about a 3KM church.Do you think GOD is so wretched that he. Can't bless his Children? Or do you think we don't people that does legitiimate biz to donate d 1B? So,you mean God can't bless you to that extent? God does not need the money, its d willingly heart to give, that he's after.

So Sunday,go out now and give that destitute N100 to eat, then we will know you are helping the Govt to take care of their own.

@Virus; Where is the "Gbagaun" in my post? "To God be praised" is now wrong? Lol!! I presume you have never heard that before, thank me later for adding something to your vocabulary.

I wonder what some people are criticizing Pastor Adeboye for. I mean to build a larger auditorium to win more souls for God shouldn't be trivialized. I remember when this particular auditorium was built, I was one of the first to say 'this is too big, can RCCG fill out this large auditorium?' Now the auditorium is filled to the brim, and it can't contain the large number of people seeking for spiritual fortification, hence a new larger one is urgently required.
I won't blame some Nigerians sha.. Every damn issue is politicized.. Including religion. Such a sad state of our dear country.. In the end, God knows the truth.

I am highly disappopinted with people's blindness, building a 3km auditorium is unnecessary but ensuring that each individual actually understand d purpose of camping for God.I have been invited to the camp once/twice and I must tell u its an eye sore experience, christians fighting over chairs, pouring out disgusting insults, like the critics, they say d truth is bitter, money should be converted to building people and not construction of massive buildings and buying of jets and expensive schools for the poor.according to the holy book God wants souls to make heaven and not building blocks, provide for them especially youths what will make them think straight as a leader for 2morro and not seeing a church as a means of making money for massive buildings.I have nothing against the church/man of God but the activities are placed wrongly.

Hardly comment here but after reading this comment I must say so true.

I concur, God is in our hearts if u honour Him in all u do, He will bless u abundantly. U don't need to feel like u must be in a particular place to experience God.

So that being, said no offence but av realised that Nigerians are very gullible, they place their faith in d their pastors instead of God, forgetting dat pastors are mere mortals.

Its a personal race to heaven and the earlier we realised that and started doing things right in our work, school, actions, relationships, even things we do when we are on our own thinking no one is watching, like what we watch on the internet, the better our lives will be and free from corruption.

PS anyone who insults me here, back to sender.

Do people pay their TAX to RCCG or Govt? why do you want RCCG to provide you with what the Govt should have made available? Moreover, RCCG had helped in solving unemployemnt saga more than how globacom had done. Everybody is at liberty to do what ever he/she want with his/her money. Please face the Govt and stop criticizing innocent sector.

@ anonymous 2:28am, thank you for the information. Please Linda kindly rebroadcast to all(see below), in particular to the critics who have done not a single thing/ contribution to their community or the nation at large and have the guts to sit in front of their computer screen criticising a man ordained by God! I shake my head for you all.

And the fact still remains that when trouble comes, the CHURCH is your first place of salvage. May God forgive you all.

Dear Linda,
A blog such as yours can now afford people who will research your stories for you.

Ano4.26am?why are you cursing me ?the bible says if they slap you on the left cheek turn the right cheek.many of your type dont go to redeem to worship God.you go there to look for fine ladies and handsome guys for sexual relationship.pastor adeboye is not God.he is human that any human can relate with.

I just dashed a lady #100 to eat.i tried.church is like charity organisation.go and ask anybody.the politicians who visit redeem camp always donate billions of naira.if the church use part of it to help the poor is not a crime.most people who worship in redeem tend to act rich while they are not.i worship in redeem too.my parish is cornerstone in shogunle so dont tell me what i know.many worshipers go there to look for boyfriends and girlfriends cos there are pretty ladies and fine bobo in redeem, they also seek marriages, not God.

Well good for RCCG! The bible says righteousness exalts the nation, but unfortunately in Nigeria it's the opposite. The more the number and size of churches increases, the moral standards keeps nose diving. In Nigeria, keen observation has shown that increasing the size and number of churches doesn't help peoples morality. We cannot keep using the same approach and expecting changes - that's insanity! There has to be changes in the approach and strategy the church uses in delivering the message of salvation. Emphasis should be more on changing the value system in people's mentality, simple concepts like integrity, living according to your means etc. Average or ordinary people in Non religious countries are relatively honest, don't steal from their people, live according to their means etc. An overhaul of the strategy is required

i hate Nigerians. Sooo barbaric why?? A man of God doing something good and some people are talking like illiterates. The only thing he can consider doing as an added advantage and to make life easier for the motorists is perhaps to expand the roads or somehow try to divert that traffic. Alternatively, he can look into building a rail system connecting to the camp.

3 millions seater auditorium is not even enough considering the level of moral decadence and evil being perpetrated in our society nowadays. RCCG is the one of centres of excellence for renunciation of such evils. Linda, I want you to contribute to this project.

Shut up mr. Man. If you're using "praised" in that sentence, what is 'to' doing there? You never take corrections. This is what happens when you focus solely on the big words. You end up messing up the small ones. "To God be praised" how does it sound to you, Mr. Soyinka?

@first Anonymous,u are so right. Nigerians sometimes behave like people who are under some kind of spell, throwing money to already rich churches and never giving to d poor/needy in their neighbourhood.let's not forget what Jesus actually taught us. If we truly read our bibles,we should know that God warned us about end time and false churches that will spring up in the name of the Lord. Linda did nothing wrong by posting this, she is just informing us about all going on around us,no God will strike her dead for it,we like to claim to be christains while in our closets,we commit all sorts of atrocities.its only in Nigeria that men of God are seen as God Himself. Not everyone who says 'Lord Lord' will see the kingdom of heaven.let's be guided

You are right but when assembling is done rightly it helps each person to get stronger, encouraged and challenged. We must not forsake the assembling together of one another like some people do(Hebrews). Don't let God only be in your heart, let Him be seen in your fruits and profit the kingdom by offering yourself to God to profit His people. Cheers!

And as for -Mr Sunday-_... Daddy G.O can't be everywhere.. Helping people except by prayers.. If you have been to rccg camp you'll know what I am saying
A) check out the healthcenter- everything there is free
B) concerning food it is in abundant inside camp
C) prayers God give ears
What more could you desire????

RCCG spends N433 million on community projects
Posted by: Adeola Ogunlade in Worship May 26, 2013

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has spent N433million on community projects across the nation in the first quarter of 2013.
The General Overseer of the church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, disclosed this while presenting report of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities last week.
He said the projects were spread over 353 communities in 255 local governments of the nation.
Adeboye informed the projects included construction of free community schools, provision of free potable water, scholarship for indigent students and patrol vans for police stations, among several others.
Speaking through his Special Assistant on Personnel and Administration, Pastor Johnson Odesola, Adeboye said: “We want to do more as we have a mandate to spend N2billion on various community projects in 2013 that will meet the growing needs and aspiration of the people in all the 774 local government areas in Nigeria.”
Restating the commitment of the church to carrying out more developmental projects throughout the country, he said the projects were carried out after comprehensive needs assessment in the benefitting communities.
