Former Super Eagles midfielder, Thompson Oliha dies at 44

Former Super Eagles player, Thompson Oliha, has passed on. The midfielder, who was among the 1994 victorious Super Eagles' squad that won the Nations cup in Tunisia, died today Sunday, June 30 at 4.05 am at the Yusjib industrial medicare hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State, Super Sport reports.

Confirming his death in Ilorin, Doctor Yusuf Addulraheem told Super Sport that Oliha was brought to the hospital at the time when there was nothing he could do to resuscitate him.
“I feel so sad to confirm to you that Thompson Oliha is dead and by the time his wife brought him here, the body was completely lifeless. His wife Irish Oliha told me that he slumped in the toilet before rushing him to hospital and there was nothing we could do to save him,”
Until his death, Oliha was the head coach of the Kwara Football Academy (KFA) in Ilorin, Kwara State. He was 44 years old. May his soul rest in peace...Amen.

So sad. May he RIP. I remember him very well in his playing days. Very skillful midfielder and he hd an excellent control of that round leatherobject. I somehow feel he was underated may be due to the politics of d game in his era. But he was a very disciplined and cool headed young man. The game will miss him. May ur gentle soul rest in peace. May d good Lord gv ur wife and family the fortitude to bear d loss. Jee nke oma.

Top class Midfield maestro during his playing days. His passing accuracy, dribbling skills and quickness on the ball were top notch. If he played in this era he would be up there with the likes of Javi, Iniesta, Ozil etc. May his soul rest in perfect peace.

Football fans in Owerri will miss him more. He was worshipped there when he played for Iwuanyanwu National. He got a chieftaincy title whem he left.
Great player, but came at the wrong time, otherwise would be a blimping multi-millionaire.
An guess what, even NTA will struggle to find footage of him from the archives.
