Why don't the wealthy people invest in solar? It is more expensive initially but cheaper int he long run. The schools and public institutions should also invest in solar to take some burden off the grid. Wind farms would help too.

I believe some of these strange diseases and afflictions affecting even the young is caused from inhaling all those fumes from generators all the time. I can't see how that can be healthy for anybody.

Anonymous said...

U shuld come to agbowo ibadan and see the light situation for urself..u would be amazed as to ask urself if they actually believe human beings stay in this buildings or its just a stall for animals.there can be power outage for close to a week and to think that agbowo is in front of the premier university(university of Ibadan),it is also disheartning that it is mostly inhabited by students nd yet no light and bro jona has da audacity to say it is improving anyways#God dey.

Really? Funny? D US diverts d attention off dem and d disgrace of wat happened in d Super Bowl and uses Nigeria as a sounding board and its funny to you? God help us and our pride! D US breeds psychos by d day dat go about killing ppl b4 committing suicide but have u seen dem abusing der country and president for it? Have dey even collectively fought to ban guns!? Nigerians we r truly not d worst country ever, open ur eyes! We d citizens destroyed our countries name not d west.
D other day in uk a foreign student from naija was racially abused by a white racist woman in a hospital dat she shld go back to her country instead of coming to uk to claim 'poor' and dat she was part of d reason why uk is in crisis meanwhile d girls tuition £13,000 is paid by her father! I read it on daily mail online and I quickly scrolled down to abuse d mofo guess wat? Dey wld not allow comments on dat particular article so go figure....but if it was in naija now d girl will even be abused by naijas. I rest my case...

Dats why u'll have some of dese ppl from poorer African countries even coming on Linda ikeji to join and abuse us! Wen r we going to learn that dis is not d way? As a human being if u have d habit of insulting and making jest of ur self at any given opportunity den no one will respect u, but if with ur flaws u respect ur self while obviously working on ur flaws, no one can bring u down. Nigeria enuf is enuf! Lets clean up our name first by defending our country den go on d street and fight d government till dey buckle up and hear us!

"Please why do they only show the sums when showing naija,I beg they should know beta now hisss always want to portray Nigeria bad. Them no see fine area show abi"...

Comments like this is the reason Nigeria is the way it is! The pretense that everything is great when infact majority of Nigerians are starving...such a shame.

Who are you forming for? So they should show the rich places abi? Who are the people living there? and how many Nigerians can afford to live in the "rich" places? They go were the average Nigerian resides. If you are ashamed of the naija they portray then fight for a better Nigeria by revealing the falsehood. stop covering up

Thank God the western are now looking beyond the streets of the ill gotten riches of the politicians and so called rich men.

I strongly believe the GOD of the masses is ready to strike and fight for us because the more we get exposed to the outside world; showing how poverty stricken we are' then I can definately see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Current statistic still shows that, about 100millions are still living below a dollar in Nigeria and we are still kitting some people with well above 40million dollars for peace in Mali whereas our Country is in shabbles. What a shame!

I don't think GEJ lied abt electricity cos we have light @least 20-23 hrs a day if d transformer doesn't ve issues and if it does, they fix it on time and I live @ ajah.

Well I guess GEJ messed himself up. Someone asked me how I would have responded if I were the President; I told him dat Amanpour didn't specifically ask him about the Power situation. There clearly are other areas where the President could lay claim to achieving much (I'm cracking my brain to find out what aspects) without incuring the chagrin of Nigerians.

The shocking thing here was that they had a black out and they diplomatically transferred the focus to us, we owe them no explanation, nigeria is slogishly developing but it ain't there business. The last comment they read was carefully selected to play with our mind.
And can you notice the use of propanganda, d interviews conducted were done in a particular setting, then they show the dejected part of Nigeria...i question the inteviews conducted.

Na so dis pink heads dey do o. Dey jst want to portray naija as a dead forgotten village.

Anonymous said...

Truthfully speaking, we are not yet there yet, however, electricity supply has improved tremendously in most parts of Nigeria, unlike during past regimes.

Unknown said...

Pls let us all sharrap! U are in one small part of lagos,u see light 4hrs a day, and u call dat improvement. Why not call people in the villages and ask them how the state of power there is.CAN THERE BE LIGHT IN NIGERIA, THE ENTIRE COUNTRY, FOR ONE MINUTE, AT THE SAME TIME? We use the state of light in one part of Lagos and Abj, to do our math, while plenty pple are suffering in darkness( using lamps and mpanaka) in d oda parts of the country.
If it takes the likes of Christiane Amanpour to bring normalcy to power sector, so be it. We shld be happy that CNN is doing what our so called TV stations cannot do.I hope other channels like sky news, BBC can join them, let's see if it can make Jona, NNaji and co to sit up.
I'm very happy with this development, Amanpour, carry on jare!We are solidly behind u.

Unknown said...

I closed my eyes in shame but wait a minute,Whats with Amanpour, i guess she is obsessed with our president, our power supply might not be all that good but its improving, what if we had no light at all?.. The American's should take a chill bill, after all, here in maitama they don't spend up to a 100k on light bill. mstewwwwww. rabbish

Amanpour's presentation is NOT totally true.
My area of Lagos -Alagbado- is enjoying incredible power supply these days. Its not yet UHURU, but there is good improvement. I can bet one of the people interviewed must have said something positive, which, of course, wouldn't be aired by Amanpour's western media.
Just the way they wouldn't show the VGC's of Nigeria, just the slums.

This Is Embarrassing, What a shame... What a Country.

Its a good thing. Nigerians should learn the word 'shame' and feel it coz we are a shameless country.
Let them show the slums, there are slums in naija aint there? The fact that you dont live in one does not take away from the reality of those living the slumlife. They should show your house in VGC abi?
Everybody sends their kids off to the US,UK and even Ghana to school while our own insttutions are rotting and bereft of facilities. You manage graduate nko? No job for you because the average employer wants to employ the 'akata' breed.
Let Nigerians at home and diaspora feel shame then at least we will demand that the country improves, hold politicians accountable and be more careful of the people we vote in to power{no tribal or religious sentiment should be attached to your wellbeing and the lives of your children].
Our leaders travel abroad and see other countries and then come back home and what do they do? Steal more and send their kids to those countries to live the good life and enjoy facilities that the leaders of those countries provide for their people.Politicians buy houses in other countries to enjoy the same facilities that they deny their own people, facilities and infrastructure that they deny Nigerians. And Nigerians like slaves kiss the buttcheeks of the same people that steal from them. And some sad sods are complaining that Amanpour showed slums in her video. Send your address to CNN and let them see the opulent lifestyle you are living ,with your bad roads and bad attitude.Mediocrity celebrating Nigerians.

Do you all think it is easy to improve electricity? If you are an engr, you should know what it entails to generate, transmit and then distribute electricity. Go to the generation companies and see men, old enough to be your fathers, suffering to keep the lights on! Fabricating materials pending the purchase of new ones. Just so that you will have electricity even if it is once a day! Wake up people! Goodluck is not the best but in this sector, he is trying and you will be amazed at what he has done so far just that the lay man just wants to turn on the switch and see light! IT CANNOT HAPPEN OVER NIGHT!

A lot of things have to be put into place NIPP projects are coming up, IPP projects are coming up. Some of you do not even pay at all!

Are you aware that most barracks do not pay and you dare not take light in their area? What about govt offices, most owe PHCN. Can any business run like that? sell without making profit? You all sit down there thinking electricity is as simple as telecom! They are not same! Telecom is easier and simpler framework!

DO NOT LET THE WEST USE YOU AS A DOOR MAT! They are worse off!

I urge us all to go on twitter and tell Amanpour off for ridiculing our President and our country! have some pride ppl!

Anonymous said...

Well Linda! Yet another lot of Nigerians displaying their ignorance!, I don't know what you gain by encouraging ignorance on your blog. I can't remember Mr President saying there is constant power. He said it is improving. And if it makes you happy people, keep ridiculing yourselves with ignorance. CNN will always edit and show us what they want. Many people have testified that the power situation is improving here and the rest think the west has anything to offer them or even wish them. They want you to remain where you are as that suits them. If you are not proud of your country, no one else will do it for you. Pride will make you get up and strive to make it better. All these talks abusing the president and abusing your country only tells me that if any of you ever gets to the position of power, you would do no better. Those talks are indicative of corruption as you will also want to take a piece of the national cake and leave the country to go down; afterall no be you start am. The power problem has been years in the making and cannot be solved overnight. We are not the worst country in the world and America and co have deep rooted problems as well. I'm sure you don't know the level of poverty in these countries. It will take time but we should be proud and strive to do something. Whether you like it or not, we are the giants of Africa and stop abusing our president. CNN, leave the slums of Lagos and go to other towns and cities in Nigeria.

Fellow Nigerians let's call a spade a spade... Mr President never said that the challenges with electricity were over, he only said that electricity supply had improved considerable from what it used to be... and we all know that's the truth. We all know it can be better, but let's acknowledge the little progress made.

But come to think about it; I'm not trying to be institutive, are by the way try to move forward or just floating around i guess you don't what the world is all about in today's world. The Real question i think you should have asked is you Goths had GEJ to have lied openly on an interview or whatever. As far as it shows the gorgeous lady didn't plead to people to post their opinion on line, neither did she say Nigerian should or must give negative opinion or their truthful opinion. i guess its your type who support bed idea and doings blindly. and i guess you should be wiser than this. You insult Nigerians for supporting the news, tell me how should wrong be put to the right? how can a corrupt government be corrected. From a government that claims openly that they are being transparent, when they are not then its most ok for people to criticize them especially when they lie a lot. Bro those days of suffering and smiling are over. you better start thinking "olodo" You better start calling a Spade a Spade.

Bottom line? Don't believe everything u see or read as News. So many people are without electricity for weeks without end all over the country. If it's not Kanji Dam water level is too low... then it will be too high. If it's not vandals, it is transformer has blown! There is always an excuse! Small scale businesses are struggling because more than what they make goes to buying petrol or diesel. Everyone, whether rich or poor is experiencing the hardship one way or the other.... the only difference is the rich have the means and oppurtunity to get more money to purchase petrol/diesel for their generators. What means do the less fortunate have?(by this i mean we who are not high enough in positions to make extra cash).
Lets all the realistic! if people don't put shame in our leaders they can never be ashamed as they think they have amassed enough wealth not to be ashamed.
They must begin to feel shame as leaders before they are moved to act! It is good that the world sees how a country with so much wealth(human & Natural resource) can not provide the most basic of infrastructure for her people.
The other day, we were all appalled as our hearts bleed for the gory sight of our Nigerian Police college and I personally, is yet to see any news report that follows up that article. So as usual, we will never know if there has been any changes whatsoever to the last report we all read. No follow up story. As sad as these reports may seem, it is good that other credible news agencies report that state of affiars of the Nigerian people who have cried and lost a lot and no respite is near. I am proudly Nigerian but my pride is within the confines of my home as once i drive out from my gate i am reminded i am still in Nigeria.
How come of all the countries colonized by the British who have some sort of wealth only Nigeria after 52yrs is without steady electricity supply, good road, good and functiong hospitals, good schools from Primary - Tertiary? How hard can it be to hear that our loved ones still in the village are enjoying electricity like you and I in the city? Are we not all tired? Oga Jonah? All these people who studied engineering and all those technical stuff and have graduated from college should have bright and fresh ideas on how to improve electricity supply accross the federation..........Give them a chance to input their ideas and see to it that it works.(Job creation) Most of the people you are working with are tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo old and don't realize that times have changed. They have lost all their patriotic spirit for Nigeria.

To my fellow Nigerian leaders (Federal,State and LG) Love your country!!!!! Love your state!!! Love your Local Government!!! Then try to make it the best in everything. It shall be the pride of her people and the envy of others.

A man or woman @ 52 who is yet to achieve anything is always perceived as a failure, hence Nigeria is being perceived as a failing clown. Rats like that footballer can open his unwashed mouth to yab us on twitter and some people here are saying how dare Amampour.

Nation! if we fail as a people, we fail as a Nation. Let us begin to tell our Husbands, fathers, Mothers, brothers, sisters, relatives, friends .... who are in power to start doing better things with Tax payers money. People like Sambo are not homeless, so his house project can wait a little... maybe 2015( since 2015 is our new due date). There are more important things to do and believe me, there are available people who will gladly do the job better.

Anon 11:07 am And why are you a British citizen den if you have so much faith in your country? Abegi, lemme hear word! If our leaders choose to be shameless, we, the citizens will expose them. Do you realise it is a thing of life and death. Y shut ur mouth and suffer? Now, he is forced to address the issue on Facebook and you think that is normal. same as the Police training school when it was exposed to the public. If the western world choose to hide behind the 'super power' thing. let them! We have no business with that, Our point is for things to be done right in our own Country and we will continue to expose the government and their skeletons till we get it right. Also your example doesn't hold much water. what If your husband keeps maltreating you both physically and mentally at home would you remain mum about it under the guise of he would change? Or expose him for things to get better. Let's just stop with the Western world and Africa debate and call a spade a spade.

CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR is originally from Iran, now Iran's electricity case is worse than that of Nigeria. that is why they claimed that the reason behind their Nuclear energy Power is to provide electricity (what is wrong with using gas as a source of electricity). Christiane should FUCK OFF and go and make a positive impact in the lives of iranian's and stop dissing Nigeria. what is the connection between a blackout in an Event in America and Nigeria.

When are we going to stand up and defend our land? why must we continue to allow these people to drag our personalities in the mud? did they just fly to where they are, the tweets are an irony of what it should portray, these people make mistakes and they try to turn their incompetence away by alluding the fact to Nigeria's problems, whats the connection? THEIR superbowl game was interrupted because THEIR electric supply went off, NOT Nigeria's!!!
We will get there. . . folks.

Atleast they have what to use to cover shame.
Look at the so called high cost estates and big man area... they still suffer the plague the low cost areas are facing.
Poor town/ area plans, bad roads, no light, dirty with puddles of water, no drainage.... the list is endless. It will be a bigger shame should they show where the so called rich class live yet it is as horrible as every other place. What monuments do we have that they will show? what edifices do we have that they show? Nada ... Zip! Using the slums only draws attention to a problem in this case is seriously disgusting. even advertising agencies will tell you... Image is everything!

In response to Asaa's comment.

I have no doubts of how Mr. President is passionate about the need to fix this embarrassing issue of electricity in the country and I truly respect and appreciate that.

But, he should not have categorically made such a statement on CNN (of all places).
It is still a work in progress would have sufficed (In my opinion).

All I can do is pray for him and wish him the very best so that all his efforts would not be in vain as those of his predecessors.

Linda haven't seen any of my comments posted here, kindly post this:Most Nigerian citizens in this blog are so daft, they do not show slums in Western tvs cos they don't have one.One of the major problems in Nigeria is poor journalism, appraising evil that the government do every day.You people better wake up and see the state the leaders left the country.Am so sure most of you that write bullshits here do not know how much Nigeria makes everyday in the oil market. Its 2b dollars, that's for oil alone, and this is what they declare so maybe more. ...So where does this money go to?no one would axe them for looting if they at least do the necessary things for the poor masses.I believe most of you that write rubbish here haven't been any where outside Nigeria to see the much gap,its disheartening because they are funds to do all this but the government leave this monies in foreign account/banks laying dormant while their citizens live in destitute. No good roads, millions of people die every year by road accident you people call witches and wizards, better wake up and see beyond black magics, the world is gone beyond the locomotive stage like you people see it..Didn't mean to insult anyone though, was angered after reading some comments from low minded individuals.
