Organisers of Nigeria's First Annual light up awards scheduled to
hold on the 24th of November in Lagos released the names of nominees for
the various award categories at a press briefing recently.
The award, according to the National co-ordinator of Project Light
up Nigeria, Mr Frank Aja Ukpabi is designed to recognise, appreciate and
encourage public office holders, corporate entities and private citizens
who are contributing to a Nigeria of steady electricity power supply and
well lit up streets at night based on the age-long proven norm that
encouragement leads to more achievement.
Nigerians now have the opportunity to rate the performance of
public office holders in the area of electricity power supply through
this process while they are still in office.
ANNUAL LIGHT UP AWARDS is designed to recognize, appreciate and encourage public office holders, corporate entities and private citizens who are contributing to a Nigeria of steady electricity power supply and well lit up streets at night based on the age long proven norm that ENCOURAGEMENT LEADS TO MORE ACHIEVEMENT.
We believe we all know that steady electricity power supply leads to poverty reduction and well lit up streets at night contributes to crime reduction in a society and these two are highly needed in Nigeria of today. On the other hand, our country being the most populous nation in Africa makes it a prime low-cost source destination and a serious competition for china, only if we have steady electricity power supply hence this initiative to encourage the electricity power efforts of the three tiers of government in a somewhat competitive environment.
In our bid to achieve this and in a transparent manner we set up our website www.projectlightupnigeria.com to showcase pictures and details of all electricity power projects executed by participants for appraisal by Nigerians. The website has pages for Mr. President, the 36 States Governors, The FCT Minister and 150 corporate firms.
We therefore visited the Federal Government, the thirty six (36) States and one hundred and fifty (150) Corporate Firms with requests for pictures and details of all Electrical Power Projects executed by them and for the corporate firms, streets lit up them as part of their corporate social responsibility to enable us upload such on their various pages on our website for Nigerians to compare and contrast and nominate accordingly.
Eventually, eleven (11) States, a local Government and 5 Corporate firms who have electricity power projects they are proud of submitted pictures and details of such in response to our request. We also received information on how many megawatts of electricity were generated by all Nigerian Presidents between 1979 and 2012. These information are currently on our website. We went ahead to print a magazine named LIGHT UP Magazine with these details to complement the efforts of our website in guiding Nigerians as they send in their nominations for the various award categories.

Empress Linda abeg post comment nah, haba wida this one way communication traffic. Ur London staff don dey parro oh
this is your right, Nigerians!
Ok some of these categories are fact based, the committee to verify the facts and award based on that. Telling the public to vote makes no sense unless they plan to make available all the data collected from states, companies, etc.
Absence of data makes it another popularity competition.
so let me get this straight, people are going to recieve awards for doing like THE ONLY JOB they should have done a long time ago anyway. Man i weep and cry at the same time. I demand some state sponsored tissue and an award for blogging.
Good one Linda. kudos to the organizers of this novel event. its quite inspiring

Apparently there is now an Award ceremony for everything. What a joke!
Is this really necessary? If you want to recognise performance of public officers/facilities there is no need to sensationalise it through an award ceremony. Just imagine; obasanjo and goodluck nominated as the presidents that generated the most Megawatts! - any need?
Sis. just did same on my blog...

Good stuff!! Too bad my State(Benue State) is no where to be found there :(

Ewo!! na lie o.. In lagos i live in Ojo lga, Iba housing estate to be specific and we never even see low current. We even dey share light wit agboroko. So that rubbish should be removed
Like seriously where Abia state???!
And why on earth do i have to waste my money voting. I know all this is to encourage them but when you decide to encourage people who dont care what the people say then you are wasting your time.
In other news After looking at this Winners are Zenith for company, though i dont see why a company contesting should sponsor. I wish it was Ecowas giving this award.
Then For states I think Chime should take the category he is in then fashola the rest.
As for the presidents i dont think any of them deserve it but the Governors have made Goodluck look good
Over all its ur job so u need no award losers
Fahola for president, Chime for Vice or should i say Chime for president cos he has no god father milking him
#Oneword madness! Award for what ordinarily is their responsibility! Rubish!
Hello people, lets step out of the easiest job in the world which is to criticize for once.I think the group is right that encouragement leads to more achievement. We all thank God everyday so He can do more in our lives so what are we saying?..out of 36 state Governors only 12 had power projects they are proud of.and out of these 12,8 made nominations and maybe not all 8 will be final winners.i believe if we celebrate the final winners now by next year more Governors will carry out power projects so they will have what to submit to make nominations and even if its their obligations normally to do these things and most of them were not fulfilling it before.if this now propels more Governors to fullfil those obligations should we not embrace it?...this concept is the bomb!!!!....Kudos to those that came up with it.some many awards are given to Governors in Nigeria everyday without anybody seeing projects carried out by them but this one is so different with even a process to remove some Governors along the line whose projects are not competitive..in Nigeria?..i say kudos to you guys once again!...
Oh.... Dis is serious dan I tot.... Rushing to cast ma vote...... Brb in Jiffy!!!!
Same o' same o' crap when isaac john no get street light.
An award basically tells people to keep up the good work, I welcome the idea.
Good luck to all the nominees! Vote for the deserving one.
