The Country Director of the group, Susan Grant, who disclosed this weekend in Abuja, during the unveiling of Mother’s Day and Born Too Soon report, stated that Nigeria recorded an alarming death rate of 144 women in a day, 10 deaths per minute, due to conditions related to childbirth and had the greatest numbers of pre-term births in the world due to population.
She attributed this situation to early childbirth, inaccessibility to healthcare, weak breastfeeding by mothers and early births of children (pre-term) - (Punch)

Yes oo, its shameful, we need to me known for good things just as Ngozi Okonjo came 2nd in world bank presidency selection. We need good reports like that. Not death, theft, bombing, kidnapping etc. Nigeria need one year fasting for revival.
It's clean and clear, our government is overwhelmed and our leaders are completely clueless as to which way to go. Effective Healthcare delivery I know ought to be a very top priority of a responsible and responsive government, but what do we get here? Scramble for public coffers! Looting of National Treasury! People die of what ordinarily should not kill, mothers dying at childbirth, infant dying at delivery. #GodIsWatchingThem! And His wrath is coming upon them all.

Its a shame that in the 21st century Nigerians still die over something that is natural aand must happen, why is this country so backward? Where are out leaders? They send their wives and kids abroad to gibe birth,thunder will strike all of u down one after the other.

I hurt so badly over any maternal death, especially when it is avoidable. Our pregnant women are treated as numbers, not as humans, by some heartless nurses and midwives in govt hospitals.

Linda, You are a spot. I sent you an FB message and I don't know if you saw it about 2 weeks ago but thank you for talking about Maternal Deaths. Now I understand why people try to have their children abroad regardless of the costs. My friend died 2 weeks ago after giving birth to her second child. Why? She was bleeding and they tried to transfer her to LUTH and she died in the process. She was just 33 years old. May her soul rest in Peace. Thank you once again

Among all the things Nigeria is batting at the moment, Maternal mortality is one that's preventable....but not much is been done...like everything else.
Let's get it right...Doctors are not the problem here...lack of valued health policies and procedures are the problem.... There shouldn't have been opportunity for doctors or any health care professionals to be on strike in the first place...
