Following the death of Malawi president, Bingu wa Mutharika, who died on Thursday April 5th following a heart attack at the age of 78; Joyce Banda, 62, the Vice President of the country was sworn in yesterday Saturday April 7th, becoming the first female leader of Malawi and the second female president in Africa after Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia
What difference does it make abeg,Ladies keep dissapointing us especially in naija.at least we have learnt from experience that stelaing of public funds knows no gender. -Palo
Awesome! I knew dis dayz would come. Africa - finally rising like a phenix from d ashes. I'm we'd have more of such in our own generation. Congrats 2 Joyce Banda - God's wisdom guide her in leading Malawi.
Amen , Nneka for naija president . 3rd African Female president and I go vote . Women of power & hungry for the betterment of their country. People that understand the pain of their fellow citizens and prophetize their message through music .
So how does this have anything to do with anything else around here? What benefit has ever been derived from the mere fact that Africa had one Female President called Elen Sirleaf Johnson??? What makes anyone think adding another female president to Africa's "List of Accomplishments" will make anything any better...???
There are two points to be made here. One, we need diversity in leadership, which should include men, women, old and young. This should lead to more robust thinking and better decision making. However, we must be careful not to place women on a pedestal. Anyone is capable of being a bad leader, male or female. What we need to focus on is making sure we have a way of choosing good leaders (male or female), who have good people around them, proven track record of knowing what they are doing and accountability to the people who vote them in.
