He needs a job!

Don't know whether to lol at this or say 'how sad'? The lack of employment in this country is no longer funny. I gave someone 10k the other day, and he said, 'I haven't had money like this in a while'. The sad part is that we went to school together.

I think the way forward is entrepreneurship. Find something you are good at, and employ yourself. Start small and grow. Waiting on the government, not the way!

this is sad really...... i feel for the young man. now instead of d senate et al to encourage the economy with the money they are stashing away in foreign accounts, they are busy debating over sexuality which obviously they are the same ones who pay heavily to indulge in it or watch.

Linda, it's a very pathetic situation. A lot of graduates now ride okada to make ends meet. Some even hawk pure (satchet) water inside traffic in order to be able to feed themselves.

It is not that easy to start an entrepreneurship. A lot of odds are against the youth in this country. I think the way forward is for us to go the Arab world way.

I'm too angry now, infact I'm boiling as I am writing this comment.

Lastly, I never knew you have this human kindness in you. A whopping 10k. God bless you. But plse let it go round. I have been jobless for sometime now. Kindly send 10k to my no 090123426789.

For a man to do this then am sure he must av gone thru hell.Talent is bn wasted in this country. What exactly is our government doin for its citizens in this country, i can't traced anythn that citizens enjoy or av for free in this country. I remember my secondary skul days; what nigeria are suffering from now are called "basic social ammenities" pipe borne water, good road, electricity and d likes are basic things that a citizens ought to enjoy, but it's a big shame that these have become a mirage in our country. Linda u av said it all: no need to relent on the govt.

Linda stated and I quote "I think the way forward is entrepreneurship. Find something you are good at, and employ yourself. Start small and grow. Waiting on the government, not the way" Without a STRONG CAPITAL you cant be self-employed in Naija.. Maybe I will follow what your advice.. I am a computer engineer, am good about anything concerning computer... I will try to learn how to YAHOO then, maybe it will fetch me big dough... Linda thats not the WAY..... Our government is useless.

Wonder if you didnt make money from your blog selling if you would still be saying that linda.

We voted Jonathan, not Goodluck.
Who knows how many people roaming the street without a job? It could be any of you reading this.
Next time vote wisely.

The state of joblessness is not only in our Africa alone o, the unemployment rate in America is so high that people who lost jobs at the beginning of the recession are still struggling to find something to do. Imagine a wall street executive whose meal allowance for a year was $25,000 now working as a waiter making that same amount of money a year!!! God should just help us because to work for yourself is not a small task even to start needs capital where will it come from. Its just a really sad situation overall. If you have a job just be very grateful

carrying that banner itself is being proactive. A man got a job in the uk for carrying banner displaying his credentials on the motorway and another actually took a billboard advert and got a marketing job cos he was actually selling is skills. so you go man! its better than staying at home and wondering when the proverbial golden goose will lays its eggs

Curiositycat or whatever ur name is just because his english is bad doesnt mean he can't get a job done. What matter is if he is trained and he knows what he is doing. I am sick and tired of all the freaking english professors on the net....if you want to help help no need to insult the boy.

sometimes when i read peoples comments here i feel Nigerians still need to suffer very very well before some people come to their senses, We all need to stand and fight this bastard leaders, see, the youth future are fading away and some people maybe becos they have 2million naira in their account or they have one used useless car they believe they are ok? pls we all need to stand against this bastard leaders enough is enough, nothing cant work in Nigeria , Education Zero, health Zero , security Zero , future Zero. pls pls wake up

You are right Linda! By now, I believe a lot of Nigerians should understand Enterprenuership! The school wey we dey shout all the time no dey provide jobs anymore. Instead of waiting for a bank job etc. Think of something you like, start with little and with persistence, faith, dedication, you will find that sh*t can work.
I have a friend whose sister studied architecture. After graduation, she searched for work and didn't find anything. Instead of sitting at home and whining/ chasing rich men, she came up with a business plan. To start up her own consultation and management company in her living room. In just a year, she has been traveling around Africa helping clients with building constructions. And she is a woman! She inspires me!

bravo to the young man. however it is not easy to start a business without capital and connections. still, making moves to start a business is better than submitting endless applications.
Linda thank you for your generosity to your friend.

That's why most of my friends eloped to USA/UK quite early..funny thing is most are thinking of coming back home in one form or the other!!..heartbreaking tho..seeing the number of jobless Grads..u know the saying an idle mind is the devil's workshop..and we all been victims of the products of that workshop!!..just last month Armed Robbers..tried to rob my mom!!..coming back from a society wedding that was flagged up on this Site...everyone all looking fine..fine food/wine..you all gloss over the pics..but Guests are nervous and praying they all get home safe!!..

Str8FrmDaHips said...

Thats the prob Linda ur statement..is typical of us 9jas..doing it ourselves!!..we tired already!!..we already our own Local Govt Authority...we provide our own water..roads..security..its their duty to create jobs..especially when the money earmarked for job creation has been siphoned away by a few!!
C'mon now....even in US/UK..the bastions of the free market..their Govt employs the most

Str8FrmDaHips said...

And pls stop with the frigging English Lesson..try walking in that 9ja heat..and not having a dime in your pocket...it doesn't matter how talented/creative you are..u need the infrastructure to thrive..I'm skilled in multiple disciplines only 'cos the environment allows it!!...of course there's corruption here but they dare not deprive the people of bare neccesities!!..
The Govt in 9ja is clearly the PROBLEM!!

To all those that are saying

"Investment is needed" and that "Entrepreneurship requires good money", or "Government is not making the environment conducive" are mistaken.

Linda Ikeji is right on this one.

The bible says
"Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much." - Luke 16:10

"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' -Matthew 25:23

It is easy for us to complain and say we need so and so amount to start a business.

Even the bible says, "whatever you lay your hands upon, I will prosper". Think about it. God will bless what you have. If you sow in season, you will reap in harvest.
While it may delay, to those who persist and suffer long, they will reap the rewards.

The problem with Nigerian youth is that we fail to differentiate between our seed and our harvest. A lot of us spend our seed as if it is our harvest.

It makes no sense.

Let us use Linda Ikeji for an example. If she had said she would wait till someone gave her N5 million to start and market a blog that Alexa says receives 50,000 visitors a day, she will still be waiting till now.

What did the prophet say to the widow who had debtors bothering her? HE SAID, "WHAT DO YOU HAVE AT HOME?" SHE REPLIED THAT ONLY A BOTTLE OF OIL. The point is if you put the little you have to use today, and you persevere and show yourself worthy, though the vision tarry, it shall come to pass.

For those saying NO CAPITAL to start business, I ask - what have you done with the little God has given you. If you were to sit down and calculate the amount of money that you have come across in 2011, can you show yourself a faithful steward of that money?

You'll see young ladies who are unemployed and talking of NO CAPITAL, yet their phone is worth 40k, hair - 40k, hand bag -20k, watch -20k, shoe- 18k. Calculate it all and see if using all of those as seed instead of spending it like it was your harvest will not take you closer to your destination. Yet these same ladies will be seen in church praying to God to bless them.

Linda said START SMALL.

You should start small and when you have shown yourself faithful in small, you will be entrusted with more.
If Linda says she wants to start another blog and needs N5 million in investment today, people will invest in her because she has a track record, and she has proven herself. 5 years ago, it may not have been so.

My point is simple... For anything you don't want to do, there's never a shortage of excuses.

Look at what you have today and ask yourself if you are using it like your seed that should be planted or eating it like a harvest.

STOP WAITING ON THE GOVERNMENT...
STOP WAITING ON GOD (HE IS WAITING ON YOU TO MAKE A MOVE SO HE CAN BLESS YOU)
STOP WAITING ON SOMEONE TO GIVE YOU A HUGE CHUNK OF MONEY TO CREATE YOUR DREAM - IT WON'T HAPPEN.

Start with whatever little you have... Warren Buffet started as a child with a little money and today, people will go ahead and invest in any company he invests in simply because he has shown himself faithful. Dedication, Commitment, Perseverance, and a leap of Faith is really all you need.

Start small irrespective of your location or circumstance - Even in the prisons of Egypt, Joseph used his talent. And after he had been found faithful, and proven himself worthy, he reaped the fruit of it and was propelled to the next level.

PS: if you are unemployed, your Brazilian weave is not an investment, nor is it "seed" that will yield any reward.

this is indeed shocking and sad, a commenter even mention 'whopping'10k.just 10k???? i make way more that in 3 days and I'm not even a graduate yet.You all should stop relying on the government, parents, boyfriends/girlfriends etc RELY ON GOD FOR ALL YOUR NEEDS. Yes it may sound like a cliche but the moment you begin to realize who you are in Christ, believe me your life will never be the same again.I speak out of experience I AM ENJOYING MY LIFE BECAUSE I KNOW WHO I AM.I AM BEYOND RICH(i wasn't even born from a wealthy family) AND I'M NOT EXAGGERATING.The word of God WORKS! ask yourself WHO ARE YOU?DO YOU KNOW THE LIFE GOD HAS PRE-ARRANGED FOR YOU?if you can't answer this you will remain in constant need. The 'secret' to prosperity is not in your degree, job or in entrepreneur NO! it is in the word of God in you. read it,meditate day and night on it,speak it and trust me you will come back with a testimony like I did.
linda whatever happened to LIB initiative?that would have been a great way to help out those in need here in nigeria and i'm 100% willing to be a part of it.God bless

childofthemosthigh said...

Jensinmi- YOU ARE BLESSED!
so many people are waiting on God to do something for them. They don't know God is chilling up there why?because he has done IT ALL.It's not want God can give you(He has already given you all you can ever need and more),rather it is now a matter of how much you can receive from all that God has given you.

you can only be a success if the Word is at work in you

Revolution is the answer. Where is the money for him to start a business?

Do you think he would not have started a business with such qualifications if he had the cash?

When you are in 'shit' everyone will think they can tell you what to do because you are 'dumb'. I pity the guy.

He should have put his email address and phone number on the billboard because someone may see it and help him.

Jensinmi,
Such poignant words. God bless you. You're truly a fountain of wisdom.

Linda, I think you should make Jensinmi's comment a post on it's own and tag it " Word of the day" just line you have beauty of the day. Youths especially need to read it...

Mini tips from me too:
If you enjoy cooking, start a food delivery service
If you enjoy writing, start a blog and market it
If you're unemployed and have a phone, start a call centre service
If you enjoy dressing up or styling friends, look into a fashion course
If you don't enjoy doing anything at all, fin something to buy and sell

Str8FrmDaHips said...

Sorry all those examples don't wash..yeah start small..hello..using Linda..is she an average 9ja??..lets be frank the Average 9ja is poor..look left..right and centre..now let me ask how come we haven't produced a Media/Technology/Scientific Mogul??..develop our own Nuclear capabilities??..at a base level..how did FB owner succeed??....yeah agree 9jas this days are not driven in nature..but cutting our useless inepth..Govt and Cabals slack plss!!..go see the Oil subsidy list..those are part of the problem holding us back!!

Anonymous said...

Peeple tare saying start small, do not know what they are talking about. Do you know how many busninesses has collapse in Nigeria, because the environment is not conducive? I know lots of graduates who went into trasportation business, but could not survive the activities of the agberos, and government agencies, that are out there to harrass and extort money from them. Some went into one for of IT business, cybercafe etc, same story. Power is a big issue. Nigeria environment is just too harsh to business. A lot of people has tried the entrepreneur way, but has got their hands burnt. Linda is more or less in the entertainment industry. Must evey Nigerian / black man be an entertainer? Can we all afford to be entertainers? We need to get our priorities right in that country. Many people have died while going the entrepreneur route. All we see are the few succesful ones.

Emy said...

Not everyone can start or run a business. If we all do, who will work for the other. People are quoting bible for young men and women that are hungry and have given all their money to pastors as dangerous seeds for dangerous results, yet they are still dying. most of nigeria are now religious and millions go to church and pray and fast and tithe and sow seeds, yet nothing is working. the only people prospering are the pastors. Obama is receiving hell for a 9% unemployment rate because it's his job to help create jobs. If government cant create jobs then no one needs government. this is what you get when fools vote in fools because they believe he was sent by god. the fool will leave his job of creating jobs and focus on legislating morality.
