My whole weekend messed up. I saw a video that has messed with my head. A rape video. One hour of five boys taking turns on a girl. So heartbreaking to watch! One woman I showed it to today cried for three hours straight...it's one of the worst things I've ever seen in my life
A female student was gang raped by five boys in Abia State University. This incident happened Tuesday August 16th , 2011. These boys raped this girl, recorded it, passed it round their friends, who then passed it round ABSU campus.
And do you know what her offense was, why this girl was raped? She supposedly insulted one of the boys...that was all.
In the rape video, which lasts for over an hour, the girl cried her eyes out and tried to fight them off in the first few minutes, after a while they subdued her; by slapping her, rough handling her, threatening to kill her and having rough sex with her. After a while she gave in and instead of fighting, she started pleading, and after her pleas fell on deaf ears, she begged them to kill her that she couldn’t take the pain anymore. These boys laughed at her, made fun of her and told her that if she didn't co-operate, they would keep her in the room and continue raping her for two days.

Then she starts mentioning names, saying ‘What did I ever do to you’, (they spoke in English and Igbo language) she mentioned at least two names.
And in between, you will hear her scream out in pain as one guy stands up and another penetrates her...and all the while, these boys are laughing.
In the video, you can clearly see the girl’s face; the boys faces you really can’t see clearly... but they talk a lot and one of them said he’s a 4th year law student, another one said he’s an IT student...names were mentioned...these boys can be fished out.
This girl is someone’s daughter, someone’s sister, someone’s friend, and God’s creation. You cannot do this to another human being and get away with it.
I have the video...one hour of it on my laptop, and 10 minutes of it on my phone...but the rape was more than an hour, she went through this ordeal for several hours. Uploading this video online is not an option, but I want people who can do something about this to see it.
These boys can’t get away with this. Please if there’s any Women Rights Group, police, lawyers, journalists, who can take this up, please contact me; I will bring the video to you, wherever you are or send via email.
Meanwhile, a friend and I contacted one of the aides of the Governor of Abia State today, and he told us categorically that the Governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji, has seen the video and plans to take it up on Monday Sept 19th. I’m in touch with them – let’s see what they do about this.
And whoever you rapists are; you don’t mess with God’s creation. The God I serve will never let you get away with this. HE is coming after you! Just watch! You bastard animals!

Please give us first names, and this video can be digitally cleaned up to reveal more info about the perpetrators. Use any info and blow it up on social media sites. Notoriety is a good punishment when Justice can't be served. I've exposed a classmate for embezzling before.

My heartfelt sympathy to the young lady who had to experince such violence on her person. I hope that she gets the necessary help and rehabilitation to recover and heal. As for the young men, they are damaged products of a damaged society. Instead of us asking for their lives, we should examine how we as a society tolerate daily decay that ultimately leads to self-destructive behaviors and acts of atrocities on other humans. these young men and others need HELP. So many of the youth are also at risk of emulating this kind of wicked culture, so we really need to keep an eye out on our young people: educate young people and bring awareness to this kind of violence.

I Googled "ABSU student raped" and came up with over 8000 hits. The story is getting around. That said, does the girl go to the school? Do the boys go to the school? Does the room where it took place look like any of their rooms? If so, the university and government can take their denial and eat it. I hope they won't cover this up in an effort to keep their enrollment up. It is more important for these psychopaths to be punished.
The story is a malicious figment of imagination of whoever originated that story. I said this because it was properly investigated and found not in any way associated with Abia State University Uturu. The Video also being paraded doesn’t any way emanate from any background at ABSU, it is totally not in anywhere around ABSU premises. I pray this case doesn't get swept under. I've always complained about the rape culture in Nigerian universities. There was a night in the university that a girl was gang raped in the next hostel block and her friend/sister was begging the cult boys to stop. This was about 2Am in the morning. And nobody came out to rescue that girl. I live with the burden of that horror and guilt till this day.
Everybody's been going on as if rape is a normal thing. It's not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There was a time when I would hear a woman got raped and I am depressed for two weeks. I am handling it better these days but it still manages to ruin my moods. There needs to be lot's of awareness campaigns. I don't think we Nigerians have screamed enough about rape. Most of the youth think it's not such a bad thing. It's a growing epidemic. Do whatever you can in your own little way to stop this!
The reason law enforcement treats these sorts of cases lightly, is because a lot of people in the government and security agencies were former university cult members who raped girls while they were in the university. So they feel no moral compulsion to arrest anyone who does what they used to do back in the day.

Hello Linda, just heard about this two days ago. My spirit is grieved. I'm hoping influential female figures like Abike Dabiri, Funmi Iyanda and Mo Abudu will take this up. However, my concern is for the girl in question. Will she be willing to come out and say she was raped, considering the stigma associated with it and how our society will perceive her? Two, if she does, will there be adequate provision for her physical, emotional and mental rehabilitation? She needs to be taken out of that environment and counseled. she needs emotional and mental healing after this ordeal. 3) If she identifies her attackers, will her privacy and security be guaranteed? Unless you've gone through this debasement, you can't begin to understand what that girl will have to live with for the rest of her life. I want to believe those animals will get their just deserts one way or another in this life. But my concern is for the girl. She needs help and counseling. So while we are all clamoring that these dogs are found, please the girl needs help and support.

i have seen the video and i could see the victim's face. unfortunately, i could not see any of the faces of the rapists so it may seem almost impossible to catch them. but that is not true. good thing is that we have the victims face. if we can reach the victim, take her to a secure environment and convince her to provide the identities of her rapists, we will then be making some progress in this case. i believe it will be easy to spot the victim. her face showed clearly in some scenes in the video. i heard the video circulated all over the campus. so am sure, there must be some students that can identify her. reaching out to the students should be a starting point in the investigations if the victim lacks the courage to come out with the story

Please don't post the video online - she has suffered enough. The authorities must act. It is only by bring pressure to them by highlighting this incident that they will be forced to. I'm tired of these God will, hell fire stories. Where was God when this innocent girl was being brutalized. Bringing religion to this matter is nothing but an escape mechanism to run away from the responsibility that society has to apprehend these rapists. There needs to be a countdown on this website to the time these guys are caught and punished. People have to take responsibility and act. Linda, Please I don't think the video should be shown anymore. The girl has been violated enough. When i was in the Uni in the 90s in Nigeia, we used to hear of horrific things like this. It is a taboo to come out and say you were raped. I know about a case that happened 3yrs ago. A gang of guys broke into a female hostel robbed and raped a number of girls. One of the girls was taken home by her parents and returned the following week. No counselling, no therapy nothing. They said they don't want anybody to know that she was raped. Why do we treat serious cases such as violation of a woman as if it doesn't matter?. That girl that was gang raped will still be reliving her ordeal now. She will never be the same again. My prayer is that God should heal her physically, emotionally and psychologically. Please let remember her in our prayers . PLEASE

This is the height of barbarism! People use every opportunity they get hold of to unleash the diabolism in them. I'm sorry to say this, but people that commit such hideous crimes shouldn't cohabit with mankind. They deserve a place meant for untamed beasts - a dungeon or worse confinement. I dare say they are "untamed", because even wild beasts have a limit to their beastly acts. There's no limit, and I repeat, no limit to these monsters' sadism. So, I suggest that they be made to face the MAXIMUM ever possible punishment for offenders! How in the world did they summon the foolhardiness to put that young woman through that ordeal? What made them feel they had the right to subjugate a fellow human simply because one of their imbecilic members felt insulted by her?
Although God has a well-calculated way of making such diabolic beings face his wrath, I think it's about time the law enforcement bodies, lawyers and all swooped down on these senseless criminals, round them up in the most dramatic manner and subject them to the unthinkable, without room for zero tolerance. Their act was typical of bastardy criminals. Therefore, they should face the music in a way that will serve as a fore-warning to so many other beasts out there lurking in the dark like ambush hunters, awaiting opportunities to pounce on helpless individuals.

Linda, I have signed the petition for this horrible situation. My heart truly goes out to this girl, have there been any updates to this case? Have there been any arrests or do we know if she is still alive? I will continue to keep her in y prayers and I just hope that her assailants are served the justice that they deserve. This horrible is a result of the many years of negligence on on the part of out leadership.They've been ignoring campus rapes for years and now it's become a culture in Nigerian universities. And most Nigerians are so hooked on media sex that we've become so numb an insensitive to the sufferings of young ladies who's lives are being destroyed.
These rape victims are going to be mothers someday and they will pass down their hatred for men to their daughters and multiply their psycosis in their sons.We have a big problem on our hands.
