Who killed our beloved Tola Spiff? - Family members

Late Tola Spiff
Written by Adebayo Ajagunna.

On the 6th of February 2011, Mrs Oyetola Oluwaseun Spiff (Nee Odunlami) who we all simply called 'Tola' a 36yr old mother of two boys and the marketing mnager JKK Komputers Ikorody Road, Lagos, was brought in unconscious brought in unconscious to the Obanleaje Hospital Obanikoro Lagos at about 3pm by her husband Mr George Ikoli-Spiff. When Tola was brought into the hospital, George kept insisting to the hospital staff that Tola took poison after they had a serious quarrel. The hospital staff asked George how he knew it was poison, but he couldn't provide no satisfatory answer.

Tola ultimately passed on the 9th of February 2011 and the autopsy report confirms she was poisoned, since then her father and brothers with the help of the Homicide Team of the Nigerian Police Force have been working day and night to get to the root of what is beginning to look like a murder investigation.

Tola’s older brother Mr. Abiodun Odunlami a UK based solicitor has led the family’s effort so far. Last week Wednesday the Police extended an invitation to Tola’s husband George to come in for questioning in respect of the investigation, the invitation expires on Wednesday 27th July 2011. Since the Police invitation, Abiodun’s life is being harassed consistently by members of George’s family. On the 23rd of July 2011 at about 6PM a certain Mr. Anthony George Ikoli called Abiodun imploring and pressuring him to prevail on the police to withdraw the invitation to George, in a call which could pass as a threat, he informed Abiodun that he is not only the Attorney General of Bayelsa State , but that he was also a SAN and could make one phone call to Abuja to make life uncomfortable for the entire Odunlami family. He also told Abiodun that he belongs to many prestigious socio/political organizations in Lagos insinuating that he could make life further uncomfortable for Abiodun if he doesn’t back off.

For those of us who knew the ever smiling beautiful Tola Odunlami in FGGC Owerri and in UI or who were touched by her absolute warmth during her short career and life, please help circulate this note and implore Mr George Ikoli-Spiff to honour the police invitation before the 27th of July as requested, if he has nothing to hide I don’t see why he should be afraid to go and say what he knows to the police, afterall he was the last person that was with Tola alive. We are also appealing to the “big man” Mr. Anthony George Ikoli to allow the police do their job afterall we are in a democracy. We are also telling Mr. Ikoli that we join hands with the Almighty God to keep an eye on every member of the Odunlami family, we pray for everyone’s sake that nothing happens to anyone of them especially, Abiodun.

GEORGE IKOLI-SPIFFF please GO AND ANSWER THE POLICE to CLEAR YOUR NAME. God will expose whoever had a hand in Tola’s death. Lets keep Tola's picture on our profile till those invited by the police show up on Wednesday.

No one will lose a loved one in a questionable way and not seek to know d "how?" & d "why?". No one is presuming or passing judgments on d tragic death of TOLA SPIFF; what we are requesting is that NO ONE stand in d way of d ongoing police inquiry and that ALL PERSONS OF INTEREST invited by d police, should respond and co-operate so that this can come to a quick closure. Its d BEST way forward for ALL parties.

WE LOVE YOU TOLA, and we need to know what took you away from us so suddenly. RIP pleasant one.

I saw this on our mutual FB friend Kay's page yesterday. Hmmmm! May God help us in our marriages. Amen.

Now that there's a lot of publicity for this, her hubby's family will have to buckle down and he has to go to the Police.

This is a country where there is little or no transparency and the course of justice is always thwarted by the more influential party whenever issues arise.

the real facts of the case will remain hidden, even in the countries with the best justice systems, its hard to know the motive behind the poison swallowed.
did she do it under anger or out of frustration or was it forcefully aadministered, or even in food and drink without her knowledge?
the only one who knows the truth is Tola and her husband! she is gone and he remains alive
it is sad and unfortunate when these things happen
Marriage is meant to be a place of companionship and love but these days ..it is almost becoming impossible to enjoy marriage with all the stress and evil in human hearts....May the Lord keep the children and be with them ....losing a mother is not a funny thing!

A woman's life seems to be worth nothing in Naija.

Marriage is not all bad. However, the disrespect for women is too too much...and unfortunately, it is often the norm in Naija.

What a wretched way to die, a country wear human rights has no meaning. Even if he goes to see the police, what will they do to him. The fact that they are still inviting him rather than arresting him does not give me much faith in them. I hope her kids are safe.

CU said...

This is not a fair write up. George is someone I know and he has no hands in the death of his wife. She just returned from a trip and started complaining about her head and body. Her loving husband rushed her to the hospital (first Airforce Base then her Uncle's hospital) where she gave up the ghost. Fine, they might have had quarells (Most of us know the reason why) but he wouldn't do anything to hurt his wife.
There are so many questions left unanswered.. Why will her family, just 2 days after her death, start fighting her husband for her properties when the poor man was mourning the death of his wife with his two young kids?
I pray the good Lord will pull him through this and expose the wickedness of man for all to see.

Anonymous said...

This is sad to hear, but I can understand why the husband doesn't want to honor a police invitation. I've gone to police before to write a statement as a witness and was held as a suspect for 6 hours until my lawyer arrived. Please this is a usual occurrence with the NPF, his apprehension is not unfounded. I do hope that they find the truth in this case and that justice is served.

@BAVA,i hope you are also scared of friendship?becos your boyfriend can poison and kill you too.
Could we just make our comments without throwing silly punches at marriage?
if you want to marry, good for you.
if you want to stay unmarried, also good for you.

And yet another married woman SEEMINGLY get's killed by her husband in her prime. why would a mother of 2 just drink poison all because she had a heated argument with her husband? That seems fishy to me.

Anyway, I dey sitdon dey look. Naija married men and women keep castigating those of us that want to remain HAPPILY single for obvious and not so obvious reasons. While they continue to castigate us singles, this is how they will continue to bury their loved ones that died premature deaths in the hands of their spouses. You know what they say, KARMA is a bitch! So until society learns to live and let live and respect people's choices of whether to marry or not, this trend will continue.

Una neva see anything yet. This is just the begining of more serious things to come!

May the young woman rest in peace and may God uncover the truth behind her mysterious death.

Oh God not again!!!BUT, Please Please lets not be quick to judge here or jump to conclusions. I say this because the fact that autopsy results show that she ingested poison does not imply that it was fed to her by her husband. like it was reported, he said she drank the poison after a terrible quarell. i do not hold brief for this man but i want you all to know that sometimes ones husband can actually frustrate you to the point where all you want to do is kill yourself so that you can put an end to your pain. I can't even begin to go into why we put ourselves thru these things now, but i can tell you that it is not a good feeling cos i've been there and i know how it feels. All I'm saying is this, please don't conclude that her husband fed it to her. I know we are all still in pain over the gruesome murder of the young banker/wife but let's not lose sight of what is happening here. Tola's husband is in deep shit now as we can all see and trust me peeps, he knows it, but let's simply not be quick to jump to conclusions. As for his important family member who is trying to kill this matter even before it begins, he is only making matters worse for his brother. RIP Tola, may you truly find peace in the bosom of the Lord.

we all need to hear sides of a story before we jump and comment...Tola's Family are twisting the tale o.

Bayo Ajagunna and Mr Odunlami, it is indeed a sad story you have written here. However,i believe your story is not complete and is just an attempt at her husband George in the mud. I am aware that Tola did not die immediately and that she was also able to talk up until she passed. What did she say? Didn't ur pple ask her what happened to her? her Father and Her boss at the office also came to see her at the hospital, she had a long and lenghty conversations with them seperately, what did she tell them. Did she say she was poisoned, did she give you any clue as to why do you think or believe George was responsible for her death? Did they have any burning issue that could result in him killing her? I believe all these information should also be provided on the face of the papers to provide complete details to the various readers.

if na George Spiff; maths/computer science Uniport Alumni....i can say he will never do such a thing.
Because he does not want to honour the police invitation does not mean he is guilty; NPF is a rotten force where the innocent is jailed are the guilty go scot-free

CU please what family were fighting George for property? Exactly what property did they have that they should fight over? Is it the rented flat they were living in?

Please no one but George and his dead wife know what happened...but even if a man's goat dies he has a right to ask questions. This is someoone's daughter. It was George himself that told the doctor she injested poison so it is appropriate that George tells the full story as he knows it, which he has refused to do.

You know this has taught me a lesson. im an avid reader of this blog and always form opinions from things i read here or ony other blog for that matter. but really there are definitley two sides to every story. And from today, ill try to hear both sides befor concluding.

But i just have one question, if the Odunlami family really mean well, Linda why did they not tell you when they gave you this write up that George has honoured the Police invitation and has been in their custody for two days, this is the 3rd day and he has not been charged but he is still in their custody. Why wont they reveal that.

Like someone said Tola died 3 days later in her uncles hospital and she had regained conciousness, let them say what happened.
God will judge!!!

And yes what goes around must come around IJN, for every pain and complication that has been created for george, GOD must surely take vengeance

Anon 2.36pm you sound so bitter, like you are fighting the world, like the world is on ur neck to marry. If you dont want to, i dont thnk u owe anyone an explanation. Stop saying such things like 'So until society learns to live and let live and respect people's choices of whether to marry or not, this trend will continue' cos it sounds like you are happy all these issues in marriage are popping up to further justify ur being single.
People die everyday, everywhere by various means - accidents, shootings, sickness etc do all these stop u from going out and living life??? So also bad marriages should not stop one from getting married. My 2 cents sha

First Time to comment on your blog, I know the Husband very well and we are neighbours. He can't do such a thing. Gist we heard was the Late wife poisoned herself to cover up some atrocities. The family should show enough sincerity and it's a pity people pass judgements without knowing the true story. May her soul rest in peace and please leave George Spiff alone, we all know he can't hurt a fly.

It takes a God fearing couple who is self disciplined to make a marriage sweet. my own 2 cents too o

Whoa! First of all, Linda dear, those typos/repetitions in that piece have got to go.

Secondly, na wah o! Why drink poison because you had a quarrel with your husband? I smell a rat. As I'm sure we all do.

But the point is, at least the family look powerful enough to demand answers in a public arena so hopefully something will come of it.

When i heard bits of the the other side of the story, with all my dislike for 2nd wives/mistresses i had real pity for the man even with his billions.
Guys and gals, very few things are black and white in human relations. The colour grey is in vogue.Don't extend your dislike and ignorance of marriage onto issues you know very little about.

You must be very daft and unenlighthened to think that every woman who does not want marraige is into runs. Some of us live comfortable lives abroad with good careers. Not everyone who come to Linda's blog is a local living in Naija. Besides, not everyone wants kids and you don't need to be married to biologically conceive. So get that into your head. See how bitter you are because some women refused to marry LOL....that is because you know that men have way more to gain from marraige than women. After all, who will be your glorified maid and incubator for your sperm if women choose not to marry anymore eh? I beg carry go!

Anonymous said...

@wivesroundtable,

I don't think that annon 2:36pm said that marraige is bad. From what I got from what annon 2:36pm said is that marraige is not for everyone. Some people do not want to get maried for several reasons best known to them. When society forces marraige down people's throat when deep down inside they don't want it, it can lead to catastrophe even death. And I agree that marraige is not something people should be forced into. If marraige is for you, good and if it is not for you, equally good. Most Nigerians marry for the wrong reasons anyway and when shit hits the fan, then we complain and act shocked on Linda's blog like a bunch of hypocrites.

Poison is not the norm for a man to use for murder. Poisoning has always been a woman's method of killing. Now there are exceptions to every rule, but the chances of him doing the actual poisoning is very slim. If he did poison his wife to kill her then he would never had taken in her body to the hospital. The fact that he said poison and not specifically what she took is also pause for concern. Most persons would have said she took pills, bleach, rat poison or whatever the substance is, they would have named it out plain. That tells me he knows a lot more about this case.

Is any member of their house staff pregnant? How was the relationship between her and the mother-in-law? It may be him, a conspiracy among many. I have a strong feeling this case will fall into the thousands of unsolved cases out there.

Anonymous said...

just from majority of people that have commented not one positive about Tola has been mentioned, if her husband was so awful I believe majority would have said so. This might be his trying time, this too shall pass, from comment above if her husband ended the marriage and she ran to her lover who rejected her,she could have felt she lost everything, who knows what else is hidden we have no idea. That can make someone suicidal, I am suicidal myself so I would know, you get to a point you feel there is no hope.

Anonymous said...

Okay, people are making comments and judging, why is Tola's uncle dead that saw her at the hospital he worked in, where are the nurses that worked there? Why have they been replaced with new nurses?what did tola's boss go and do in the hospital? What was said for those few hours? What was she doing within the hours while she was alone at home after her marriage ended? Since you are all GOD and th juidge for the case...u can carry on condemning a man who you no not whether he is guilty

Detective Cheng said...

This case will be easy to solve in U.S but Nigeria that one nah another story....

The main suspects are 1)Husband 2)Boss/boyfriends and 3)family

this is how to analyze this case....
Examine her body, to see if the poison was injected, check I.V lines to see if no one tamper with it. They need to take fluid from her to do other analysis what kind of poison is in her system, check her medical record....etc

If she was having an affair then the detectives need to start from their, phone records, facebook, twitter, text messages, and email. They need to investigate the husband too.

the detective need to speak to her family members, friends, doctors/nurses at the hospital she was taken too and her co-workers.......

In this case, i'm suspecting it's either she was told she has HIV or AIDs and she poison herself. Or She was about to reveal a secret and someone decided to kill her. Pregnant and trying to get rid of the baby.

But if she survives for 3days before passing away, then someone came into that hospital to finish her...

Questions for Mr. Bayo Ajaguna

1. Is it true that Tola actually administered rat poison on herself after being confronted with charges of infidelity by her husband?

2. Is it true that Tola actually died ONE WEEK after she had administered the poison on herself and in that time she was lucid and actually admitted to the hospital staff that she had administered the poison on herself?

3. Is it true that the Obalaaje hospital actually belongs to the Odunlami family? Why would George Spiff rush her to his in-laws hospital or any hospital at all for that matter for treatment if indeed he intended to kill her?

4. Was there a history of domestic violence in the Spiff’s household before this incident? If there was, perhaps this may indicate a pattern of abuse by George Spiff, if not then maybe he is not the monster he is being made to look like.

5. Why did Tola not finger George as the one who applied the poison while she was recuperating in the hospital and if she did why did the family not have him arrested for attempted murder at the time?

6. Why did the hospital not call in the police if indeed she had informed them of any complicity of George Spiff in her poisoning?

7. How does a man who poisoned his wife not abscond for fear of being implicated by a recuperating wife, rather attend hospital for the week she was recuperating and tend to her every need?

8. How did the proprietor of the hospital, a major witness in the events that transpired and that took Tola’s statement when she was brought into the hospital DIE mysteriously the night before Tola’s passing? Was he extinguished to keep the real truth of Tola’s actions from coming out?

9. Is it true that Tola was actually getting better until her family members began to force feed her with oily home made concoctions contrary to the drugs being administered by the hospital? Was this a deliberate strategy to achieve a desired aim?

10. Is it true that the only people with Tola at the time of her passing were her Father, Sister and Aunty force feeding her this oily concoction at a time she was clearly in crisis and slowly passing away? Do they have a question to answer? Have they been questioned by the police? What was this oily concoction?

11. Why did the Odunlami’s not call George Spiff at the time when Tola’s final crisis began in the early hours of the day of her passing to alert him to what was going on?

12. Is it true that Mr. Biodun Odunlami tried to compromise the Chief Pathologist of Lagos State with monetary inducements to skew the outcome of the autopsy against George Spiff?

13. Is it true that the forensic pathologist refused to be bought and indeed stood his ground and insisted on the performance of a credible autopsy?

14. Is it true that Tola Spiff’s case file has mysteriously disappeared from the hospital?

15. Is it true that Tola was having an extra marital affair with her boss at JKK Nigeria Ltd amongst others?

16. Why is Tola’s Aunt who George reported different cases of her infidelity refusing to honor police investigation to shed light on what she knows?

17. Should the police be able to detain somebody based on mere allegations devoid of any physical or forensic evidence in a matter as serious as murder?

18. Could George Spiff be innocent?

19. If George is innocent and his name is just being dragged in the mud, how many people will the truth of his defence reach to repair the damage done to his person?

20. Are all men doomed to the same level of opprobrium, the next time a spouse stumbles and falls in the shower??

Investigations must continue, all must be revealed……

Adultery is not an excuse to avoid investigation. Detaining George for questioning does not establish guilt. It's just the right thing to do.

It's stupid to say George should be excused bcos his wife has an affair. That is actually the reason he should be investigated. Catching your wife red-handed actually shows there is a motive for the crime. Any prosecutor worth his salt will be glad to run with that case once a motive has been established.

Sad story
whether she committed suicide or something else happened, the fact is that she is dead, dead, dead!
Question we should ask ourselves is
"Am I my brother/sister's keeper?"

Those who apparently knew, what was done to help her or save her from herself or her marriage?
You see knowing isnt just enough, so coming on here to say what you know or not know is meaningless. Even if George gets out, these children will be left without a mother and that is devastating.

Marriage isnt for little boys and girls, we dont prepare for marriage much in Nigeria.
For example BAVA on here says she can so annoy people, well what you need to do is work on your anger, and ask God to transform that. You know you have an issue but yet you dont want to do anything about it. The 1st step to success is identifying a problem, 2nd step is actively working towards solving it.
I'm sold out for Christ and married and I wonder how non Christians do it. It takes the special grace of God. Not something that anyone can do on their own.
@folks coming on here to defend Geroge whom you know, dont fault Linda either, this same news was on Sahara Reporters yesterday. Also there is no need for George's uncle who is a SAN to come and start pushing power. Thats the problem with Nigeria, and it only results in making a case extra complicated.

I dont know either party, but I do know a mother's love and I've been blessed to have one. I also am married and its never easy but I thank God everyday and I fight for mine in my prayer closet. Its only God that can change a person and its Him that gives wisdom as to how to talk to someone/your spouse to express a concern. A house built on a shaky foundation will eventually collapse.

Y'all should shut up please. So this man killed his wife because she died after they quarreled?. The family is overreacting and it is sad because her children will bear the brunt eventually.

So he just put poison in her food or what?. Even a 5th grader will ask plenty questions before believing this story. Please leave the man alone to mourn his late wife. Arrant nonsense--- Gbenga

@Anon 2.36pm, i agree with wivesroundtable, u sound bitter and probably have a very low self esteem, really low. its a pity. you claim to not live locally in Nigeria, why then are you bothered about what pple think if you are or are not married. if you had high self esteem and pride, your life's decision will not be based on what pple(society) says. you should be able to make a decision and stand by it, not using pple (marriage)predicament to justify ur decision. its really sad. I know many pple in Nigeria that decided not to marry and dont care what family or society says.

What in the world is going on...I know George very well and late wife very well too..why are the IJebu's terrible pple( Odulami Family)- why are they frustrating the young man ( when they should bury themselves in shame for what their daughter did).He has a lot more to do with his life and two boys...let him be.
Why did Tola kill herself...because she didn't want to reveal some secret..So many times she denied her handsome husband in public bcos she was with so called Aristos..who is this boss in JKK..why did the boss kill her after travelling everywhere with her..you will surely get your reward for that...Pls pls pls leave George alone he is innocent..let him be and move on with his new life..i really wnder why he even married the wicked Tola because he was advised not to marry her then when he wanted to settle as a married man..see what has happened now .Odulami family..for this u have done, u will surely get ur reward, u will know no peace in ur entire family and generation..the family will always have police case and the married pple will never settle in their home in JEsus Name.

"No be who first go police dey win case"
The Police would have resolved this matter easily. Tola's family erred by putting this in the public domain, now dirty lined is being washed everywhere.

The George who was my classmate in Uniport for 5 years would not harm a fly but 1996 (when we left school) till 2011 is a long time and i cannot vouch for him during this period.

I believe Justice will prevail.

Questions for Mr. Bayo Ajaguna by Seb Ogu

1. Is it true that Tola actually administered rat poison on herself after being confronted with charges of infidelity by her husband?

Response:

NO. Oyetola never administered rat poison on herself as alleged by you and your suspected murderer of a brother – George Erefagha Spiff. Your so called allegation of infidelity is untrue and part of your afterthought to cover up your suspected heinous crime. Oyetola worked very hard for the 9years she was married to your brother, feeding, clothing and accommodating him. The food he ate, she bought it. The clothes he wore, she bought it. The cars he drove, she bought it. The drinks and water he drank, she bought it. The roof he slept under, she paid the rent as your brother was lazy, unemployed and unfortunately unable to hold down a job. Oyetola bought all the vehicles which George Spiff claimed on each occasion was stolen from him, from the sweat of her labour. Please note Ike Ogu that there is dignity in labour.

Answer to question 2:
Response:

NO. This is again factually incorrect. Your brother – George Erefagha Spiff confirmed that he took Oyetola to the hospital on Sunday 6th February 2011 and we all know she passed away on Wednesday 9th February 2011. She died about 66hours after she was brought to the hospital. She at no point in time in ever stated she administered poison on herself. She had no reason or motive whatsoever to poison herself as she had every reason to live i.e two young children, a good job, a good career and financial security.

I ask that anyone interested in this matter go to the facebook page for answers to all of Ogu's questions. Here is the link:

Answers to questions 3 onwards by the spokesman for the Odunlami family:

Answer to question 3:
NO. Oba Nle Aje hospital does not belong to the Odunlami. No member of the Odunlami family has ever owned Oba Nle Aje Hospital. Oba Nle Aje Hospital was owned by Late Dr Yemi Kalejaiye.

Answer to question 4:
YES. Your brother Anthony George Ikoli confirmed during his telephone call to me on Saturday 23rd July 2011 that had he known earlier that they were having so many problems he would have interceded earlier on.

Answer to question 5:
Oyetola was very sick and in great pain as a result of the poison administered on her by your brother – George Erefagha Spiff and was unable to see properly or speak properly.

Answer to question 6:
I stated above that Oyetola was very sick and in great pain as a result of the poison administered on her and was unable to see or speak properly.

Answer to question 7:
The question you asked above is best directed at George Erefagha Spiff (the deceased's husband) to answer. However, I am of the opinion that he waited till the poison had taken full effect and he was satisfied that she was certainly going to die before he drove her to the hospital. As such, there was no need to abscond as she was very sick and unable to see or speak properly. As you are also aware George did not tend to her needs at all while she was in the hospital. The few times he was there, it was noted he was busy buying Coca cola and Gala to eat or on the phone calling his friend Ebi to fry plantain for him rather than paying attention to the patient.

Question 8: How did the proprietor of the hospital, a major witness in the events that transpired and that took Tola’s statement when she was brought into the hospital DIE mysteriously the night before Tola’s passing? Was he extinguished to keep the real truth of Tola’s actions from coming out?

Response:

Mr Ike Ogu I think this is too farfetched for me to answer such a daft and absurd question.

Anonymous said...

Ogu's question 9: Is it true that Tola was actually getting better until her family members began to force feed her with oily home made concoctions contrary to the drugs being administered by the hospital? Was this a deliberate strategy to achieve a desired aim?

Response by Odunlami spokesperson:
NO. This is again untrue. However won’t it be in your best interest to petition the police about this if your assertion was really true? I’ll suggest you petition the police about this. If this was true, yourself and George ought to have petitioned the police that his wife was murdered rather than you trying to sweep the matter under the carpet and attempting to obstruct the course of justice.

Ogu's question 10: Is it true that the only people with Tola at the time of her passing were her Father, Sister and Aunty force feeding her this oily concoction at a time she was clearly in crisis and slowly passing away? Do they have a question to answer? Have they been questioned by the police? What was this oily concoction?

Response by Spokesperson for the Odunlamis':

NO. This is again very false and untrue. Her father, her sister and her aunty were not present when Oyetola passed away. However as I said above, I’ll suggest you petition the police if you believe your false assertion is true.

Anonymous said...

Ogu's question 11. Why did the Odunlami’s not call George Spiff at the time when Tola’s final crisis began in the early hours of the day of her passing to alert him to what was going on?

Response by Odunlami spokesperson:

George Spiff was informed that Oyetola needed blood by the hospital and his excuse for disappearing as you are aware, was that he went to queue at the bank to withdraw money rather than drawing money from a cash point machine nearby.

Q 12. Is it true that Mr. Biodun Odunlami tried to compromise the Chief Pathologist of Lagos State with monetary inducements to skew the outcome of the autopsy against George Spiff?

Response:

NO. This is another false assertion by Mr Ike Ogu. Can you state when and where this took place? The Chief Pathologist of Lagos State is still alive and can be interviewed by the press. Mr Ike Ogu yourself and George Spiff had a problem the minute I requested an autopsy on Oyetola’s remains. You both stated vehemently that the autopsy was going to raise unnecessary questions. What are those questions that you are trying to prevent at all cost? What are you hiding? You made this statement while I was sitted between George Spiff and yourself in your gold coloured Mercedes ML on the way to the mortuary on 11th February 2011. You brother in law that runs Taris Restaurant in East London was sitting in the front seat.

Anonymous said...

Ogu's Q13. Is it true that the forensic pathologist refused to be bought and indeed stood his ground and insisted on the performance of a credible autopsy?

Response:

THIS AS I SAID ABOVE IS A FALSE ASSERTION. The Chief Pathologist is very much alive and can be interviewed by the press. Secondly, if you believe that your assertion is true, I’ll suggest that it will be in your best interest to petition the police to investigate.

Ogu's Q14. Is it true that Tola was having an extra marital affair with her boss at JKK Nigeria Ltd amongst others?

Response:

NO. Oyetola never had an affair with her boss at JKK Nigeria Ltd or anyone else at any point in time. Are you Ike Ogu making this false and hurtful allegation because when you personally requested on the afternoon of 14th February 2011 that he should arrange to pay you Oyetola’s entitlement before the burial he declined?

Ogu's Q15. Should the police be able to detain somebody based on mere allegations devoid of any physical or forensic evidence in a matter as serious as murder?

Response:

The police have every right under the Laws of Nigeria to detain anyone especially a prime suspect in a murder investigation. However, if you doubt this assertion I would suggest you consult a lawyer.

Anonymous said...

Ogu's Q16. Could George Spiff be innocent?

Response:

I personally do not believe so from the various conflicting account of events provided by him till date of the events leading to Tola’s death. However, it is for the police to unravel this, and I’ll suggest you let them do their job thoroughly without any interference.

Ogu's Q17. If George is innocent and his name is just being dragged in the mud, how many people will the truth of his defence reach to repair the damage done to his person?

Response:

That is why I said to you; let the police do their job without interference.

Anonymous said...

ogu's Q18. Are all men doomed to the same level of opprobrium, the next time a spouse stumbles and falls in the shower??

Response:

NO. Not at all. George Spiff actions before and after his wife died is what is been investigated. In any normal society, when someone dies in unclear circumstances their death are always investigated. Amy Winehouse died about a week ago and an autopsy was carried out on her body immediately by the police. However in Oyetola’s case George Spiff and yourself were so worried about the autopsy that you left the mortuary on 11th February 2011 and went to the former matrimonial home to pack George spiff clothing’s and flee the property. Why? What were you scared of?

Investigations must continue, all must be revealed……

Ogu's Q19. Is it true that Mr. Odunlami was convicted of drug trafficking in the UK? Did Mr. Ajaguna assist in his repartriation to Nigeria through his position at the embassy to avoid the NDLEA on arrival? Do they belong to the same drug cartel using the UK mbassy as cover?.....time will tell....

Response:

NO. I have never been accused, charged or convicted of any crime anywhere in the world as falsely asserted by you. I am a fit and proper person hence a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria as well as a Solicitor of England and Wales. Mr Ajagunna is my friend and client and I’ll suggest you leave him alone. You may be very unhappy with him but all he simply asked your brother – George Spiff to do was to go and assist the police investigation.

Anonymous said...

Ogu's Q20. Is Mr. Ajaguna, a paid agent of misinformation.....or does his position at the UK embassy preclude him from sanction associated with malicious publication....time will tell...

Response by Odunlami Spokesperson:

NO. Mr Ajagunna is a decent, fair and honourable Nigerian who believes in the fundamental right of every citizen of this country to life. He believes that no human being or group of human beings should have a right to terminate human life for material gains. He is a very good example of a decent person who the Yoruba’s refer to as ‘OMOLUABI’. Mr Ajagunna is not the suspected murderer and i'll request you deal with the matters before the police rather than casting unnecessary aspersions on credible, decent hardworking characters like Mr Ajagunna and all other innocent parties you have.

They keep hammering on the late wife's name and family.

In Yoruba land, we believe so much in efficacy of jazz and ijebu for that matter, i strongly believe the family must have made some consultation which gave them a good clue.

Please let the anonymous be himself or herself by putting her real name.

I read the comment of her colleague and the comment sounds touchy, which means she left her a good remarks in thier heart.

The Odunlamis have nothing to hide. When you start getting phone call threats from a SAN, the one person who should be routing for upholding justice, trying to pervert the rightful course of justice, one needs to act. The press needs to get involved to expose the truth.

Why should it be wrong for a family to ask questions about their daughter's death? Even a missing goat prompts questions. I agree that George is innocent unless proof of guilt is established but the best approach is for him to talk to the authorities not for you to attack the dead girl or her family.

Suddenly Tola is promiscuous after 9 years of marriage and none of this talk was out there until the family had the audacity to ask questions about her death.

All this medical test nonsense means you were either the doctor who administered this 'so-called' test, or George has spent time maligning his wife's reputation. If there is such a test why not publish it?

The facts are these: Tola died just over 2 days after she was admitted to hospital and she was too far gone by then. All efforts to resolve these issues through normal family channels have proven abortive, only publicising it has forced George to go to police.

Anonymous said...

Like i said before, this man poisoned the wife. And his brother the AG knows something about it and is also a criminal. Otherwise, no sane person will go around threatening others when the police only call you for a statement. A person with nothing to hide or fear will go forward to the police. Every family has the right to investigate a suspicious death, and that is what should be most important to the husband. Her family know the kind of daughter they have, who was by all accounts a well loved and sucessful woman married to a leech. There are many poisons that can be masked in food and drink, this is why anyone can be poisoned. And people are poisoned everyday. Some poison do not take immediate effect but make the victim suffer in pain and agony. Now i believe Mr. Spiffs family are running around tarnishing the womans name all because they want to run from an investigation. This investigation should be carried out thoroughly by the Odunlami family, and if Spiff is found guilty he will face the wrath of the law. The brother should also be sued. Should anything happen to the Odunlami family, even a heart attack, Ikoli will be in very big trouble. All the people raining curses on the Odunlami family for investigating an obviously suspicious death, i pity you. May you face the same circumstances and be killed by useless people who will oppress your family trying to look for justice for you. How can someone run from investigation since February. shior!

Anonymous said...

We are all not aware of what was going on in their home. If the family knew that George was all they claim he is why didnt they do anything about it then. Why now and not when she was alive. I do not think this approach by the Odulanmi is the right one. Everything done in secret will definitely be exposed, Let God be the judge. Please let us try to gather our facts before we start commenting like crazy people or people with no feelings.I have known George for years and i do not believe he would hurt a fly. Please let Tola Rest in Peace...

There is more to this story than meets the eye. Both families are hiding some details.
My prayer is that justice is done. If she is guilty as is being alleged, then her family should go home and bury their heads in shame. but if the husband is the guilty party here, let the full weight of the law take its course.
But I feel this is not good for the psyche of their children in future. May God help us all.

Anonymous said...

Let me say first of all, I don't know any of the couples, but the response to those questions are not clear still a lot unanswered, and the spokesman has already determined tje husband is guilty. I did my research and found http://www.walesonline.co.uk/topics/rebecca-aylward/
About the cocaine question being asked. Something is off somewhere. If my daughter died I would respect her death and not seek media justice, or allow her name to be tanished so badly....all her supposed wrong doings out in public. Also a man is innocent until proven guilty and should not be held without charge only in nigeria can that happen. The wife's family sound very bitter from what I can read in the article.(Understandable).this situation should be handled with care. GOD does not tolerate injustice, if the husband killed her he will surely pay and if the wife's family are causing pain and complication in his life and as alleged that his wife caused him misery too, they shall not go free either and the family will pay dearly too. The children involved I feel sorry for, they should be priority.

i pay my tribute to tola spiff. i am appaled that a supposed learned writer does not know how to investigate the truth of both sides but just takes one side of the story because of either friendship, money or emotion. journalism is about getting the truth at all costs. have u called the other party or his family to confirm the story.
i have done my research and i didnt need a degree in journalism to get to the bottom of the truth.
there was an argument between both parties. which couple dont fight that should lead anyone to either commit suicide or murder. GEORGE SPIFF had an argument with his wife. which couple dont have fights. this is a family that have been known to have three previous suicides. her mother commited suicide when she was a child, her cousin shot himself, her younger brother Tomi Odunlami tried to kill himself but was rushed to the hospital and was admitted into the psychiatric hospital in yaba. so doesnt this show that this family shouldnt be shocked about another succesful suicide. she did not die immediately, she died three days after she was admitted, she was consciuos before she died, if her husband tried to kill her wouldnt she have said something to her family and why wait from february to july to write a petition against her family. the doctor who treated her died the same day she passed away. her medical reports have been taken out of the hospital and the medical staffs that were present during her stay in the church have been sacked by the odulami family. the family members have been sending threatening txt messages to the deceased spouse that they will deal with him and yet no response has been made by him. they so called abiodun bribed and publicly apologised to the medical examiner for trying to commit. plus their father was jailed and deported from the uk for transporting cocaine.
so think now before u judge because if u point a finger remember the other five will point at you

She just posts celebrity news, entertainment and loads of gossip.Every now and then she asks all those questions that get hypocritical and judgemental Nigerians excited, you know the ones about sex.
Tola's family put out a report which she posted,Spiff's family can put out a counter argument and i guess she will post it.She is not in the business of investigating jack.We just shoot breeze here and in the process learn one or two things.I doubt the aim of this blog is to foster world peace.

all i know is, marriage is not a do or die thing.if it hurts and u cant persevere, leave it. instead of cheating or being married to a leech or whatever the case may be. happiness and peace of mind are the most important things in life but if marriage brings otherwise, its not worth it.

many marriages are full of pain and hurt for the women thereby leading to depression which subsequently leads to suicide, insanity and death.why?
we women need to take control of our lives and live to the potential that God has ordained us to be. and the only way we can do this is by defining ourselves the way God has made us and not by marriage or society dictations.

lets do what makes us happy without hurting other people but by showing love and serving God.

to the dead, rest in peace and may the Lord God that knows and sees all things bring justice. amen

Anonymous, what is your problem? You definitely have a reason for running your mouth anyhow and its well proven that you have your coins in your pocket.

From the way you have talked so far, you know the background of both couples more than they do, infact more than God.

Your invisible face is from Ondo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Anambra and anywhere in Nigeria. You kno how 3 suicides hav taken place in Tola's family...

Hmmnn, cant you just imagine your elder sister and younger sister dieing suddenly in their husbands home now or sometime in the future or rather, your elder brother die suddenly and his wife said he took poison. Then, your family will gladly appoint entertainers to celebrate it without a query.

Ok, I am glad to tell you I am Igbo from Ihiala in Anambra, and I tell you that all you have said so far is false!!

And as you can say of Tola's family, I am unfolding George's story which you have failed to do...as we all know, criminality is a way of life in the Spiff's family and they have always covered themselves up believing they have one connection or the other.

Afterall, in 2007, George's younger bro was jailed in UK for cocaine consumption while his friend died in the prison. George covered this off cos his brother was supposed to serve his remaining jail term in Nigeria.

This Anonymous or what ever you called your name,....you dont know what you are saying at all.

Tola was my colleague in the office and I have a colleague who is closer to her family. I know how she had threatened to put an end to the marriage if the man will not stop beating her.

There was a time she told a colleague of ours who is closer to her how her husband hits her with the eba turning stick whenever they had misunderstanding.

I even know how she had a mis-carriage after the guy beat her 2 years ago. At a time, she thought it is the way our bayelsa men treat their wives and regretted marrying him but she couldnt leave cos of the shame of what her family will say because she was warned not to marry him but she insisted. Investigation proved to her family before her marriage, that the Stiff family are notorious but she insisted that the guy is different.

I even used to tell her not to look at us Bayelsans with such eyes just cos she fell into the wrong family. Have you been told how Stiff's brother (the drug addict), beat his wife till she slummed early last year but was revived at the hospital. The wife's family immediately stepped in and threatened to take their daughter back when next he tried it again.

Little did you kno that George is a green snake under the green grass and is capable of doing anything, then cover it up.

Anonymous or whatever, just watch (not pray), that one of your sister does not fall into the hands of George and any of his family, then you will know what I am saying. And if the money you are paid to talk rubbish here hasnt finish, have it in mind that it will soon finish and will left to become George's next victim. My word! I am a proud Bayelsan but will not let down the truth for the gene.

i have not been paid to say anything. but d truth must prevail at all cost. but all i have to say in this matter is let God the judge and jury of every matter decide. and then one of us will bite our tongue when He prevails

@DASHMI and CHI2O
its very sad that this simple matter has come to this extent. but just to correct sumthns said. there are a lot os spiffs in bayelsa as it is a popular name. maybe a spiff from another family was jailed for drug possession. i am the only sibling of george and am a female. plus i have never travelled out of the africa continent so i no i havent been jailed for anything.
secondly, i lived with the couple during this period for a year that u say she lost a child. i stayed indoors thru out becus of reclusiveness and i swear upon the God of Jacob and Elisha that not one day was she beaten or touched by my brother. becus if he beat he would have touched me too cause we were always at loggerheads.
i implore everyone that we should allow the Police and the Court to judge the matter at hand before we throw stones. as i believe God will not allow any injustice to go on.

@chi20 where is the evidence that a member of spiff family are into cocaine, please if you have personal issues with a spiff then go and sort that out and don't bring it into this case. if a spiff was involved in drugs it wold be all over the news, and not something that will be hidden. do not come here and slander my family name i take it very personal, especially when you have no proof.post proof or news paper article. (then i can bow my head in shame). This is a new low, to come here and lie.

@sio we are all related although its a big family and we do not all know each other, because we have grown up as separate families. this is your cousin responding and yes george your brother my cousin is a spiff with other spiff cousins. please do not comment on this blog again>>>keep away@s.i.o you do not need to justify george anymore the truth will unfold and i know he is innocent.(i only commented because i will not let lies be told about my family name).

"the fear of GOD is the beginning of wisdom"
being a christian is not good enough or being good, being GODLY is what we should all aim for. with time the truth will come out.

i just could not resist, you actually came here @dashimi to make accusations on the spiff family name, if what you say is true i so would like you to prove yourself.

@anonymous july 31 8.49pm. i totally agree with you no disrespect to the dead....but just because your name is spiff does not mean you are a spiff (blood). @dashimi spiff's do not name drop i think you are just another hater. things like his happens when you become one with whom you should not be in the first place...e.g my family name being destroyed and attacked all over the internet over an issue which i believe is straight forward and an innocent man's life is being disturbed.

@s.i.o please refrain you have a lot to deal with

This issue is a very simple thing,,,if the man has no hand in his wife's death,,,let him make himself available to the police for questioning and if he's scared of been detained as annon July 28 1:18 said,,then he should go with his lawyer,,,at least there's no rule that says he cant go for police questioning with his lawyer,,,he is giving a wrong impression of himself to people or why should someone give a threat call to his late wife' s relative just becos they want them to bury the case??

@TA,,,why are u been tribalistic in such a sensitive issue as this?what has Ijebu town got to do with dis?ur sense of reasoning is terrible,,,so if she was ur sista and bcos u are from another state,,u will fold ur hands and watch.....idiot

@annon July 29 1:26...u sound disgusting and irritating,,,,is dat what ur flipping mouth can say to a family that lost dia daughter??am just wondering the type of family u came from and the type of spouse u have....mschewwwwww

annon July 30 12:48...so surprised at ur comment?y wont the woman's family make it a public affair wen one of them is receiving threat fone calls,,,pls think,,,

its so sad dat tola's family decided to bring dis out to the public.i've known dis couple since dey got married.Tola had a good husband bt she neva appreciated him.if anybody was to kill another,Tola was more likely to kill George! the Odulanmi's shld sort themseves out and leave George to leave his life.

Yoruba Boi,

I totally agree with dara. I've known this couple for a while and contrary to all that has been written about him he was a wonderful husband.
As for tola, lets put it this way. if i woke up and found myself married to her, i would probably drink poison cause it would be a quicker way to die than staying married to such a woman.
I know that george will be found innocent cause the case is clear for all to see (despite all the distorted facts i read online). i cant wait to hear what the vampirish odunlamis will have in their defence when he is found innocent of all there accusations. Perhaps at that point it will finally dawn on them that their daughter was a silly, selfish woman that chose as always to destroy instead of build.......

MAXWELL said...

It is so sad that the Odunlamis would cook up stories when they know the TRUTH!. The said hosipital belongs to Tolas uncle, unfortunately the man died few days before Tola did. I am sure the uncle will be very bitter in his grave seeing and hearing all this. The NURSE on duty that very moment she was brought in, and the the UNCLES WIFE (LATE OWNER OF THE HOSPITAL) have gone to the police station to clear the air that Tola actually confessed she took the poison, and that Tola did make a statement in her pains at the the hospital that "THIS IS NOT HOW SHE PLANNED IT" so why try to rubbish this innocent man GEORGE SPIFF. DONT FORGET GOD KNOWS BETTER

Very true!

Now, this is the time when what you said has come to past. The Lord hqs vindicated him....it is well. What ever led to her poisoning herself wil definitely be revealed.

Late Tola Spiff did all that for a husband whom she vowed to love for better for worse and I hereby tag it non of your business what ever she did for her husband. All you people pocknosing in people's affairs. Why was she having an affair with her Boss. If you ask me, I'd say her so called Boss gave her that concoction as to get rid of the pregnancy but unfortunately for the both of them, it didn't go down well with her. THERE IS A GOD THAT NEVER SLEEPS! RIGHT NOW, GEORGE IS LEAVING LIFE HAPPILY WITH HIS KIDS.
