After seven years of separation, Femi Kuti files for divorce

After seven years of separation, Femi Kuti has finally filed for divorce from his estranged wife, Funke Kuti. The case is currently before a Lagos high court judge. The Afrobeat king who turns 49 next week, has said he has no interest to ever marry again. The former couple have a teenage son together.

one marriage in a lifetime is ok. its either it works and you stay put in there forever... or

if it does'nt work. thats it.

marriage does not hold key to ur everlasting hapiness. you do.

one can be happy being single.

They still love each other. However, extenuating factors (like Yeni) will not let them get back together.

@Sakara, you probably use a different dictionary from the one the rest of the world uses. How about you just take correction and stop redefining the word

bigamy
n 1: having more than one spouse at a time
2: the offense of having two or more wives or husbands living at the same time

That is from the Websters English dictionary. It isnt wrong to take correction.

To all of you spewing rubbish about Femi being or not being a bigamist, who told you the bigamy law holds in Naija. In naija you are allowed by law to marry a hundred wives if your pocket so allows. Here customary law, whitemans' law, Islamic code and the pastor's whim all find ample expression. It's the closest expression to a banana republic I know.
So ladies, stop believing in oyinbo fairy tales; that court marriage does not make him liable to you. Ring or no ring, naija men are allowed to legally wed another. So those of you in need extra monogamous insurance better look for one oyinbo (white or black, all na same) to marry.

Fred Nwonwu, my Uncle’s ex-wife told the court during their divorce hearing that he has a new wife-to-be. Her lawyer drummed it into the Judge that if he marries while the divorce was on, then another court case will ensue. The bigamy law is generic and it’s just that in Nigeria, a lot of people don’t exercise their rights. When people keep telling him to do the traditional for now, he said when he returned the bride price, his wife’s people sort of rejected it by making sure they were not available. They are still married and she’s making sure the divorce drags on forever.
Both parties just moved on and i think Femi (and possibly Funke) kept it this long because he may have been hoping for a reconciliation but alas, Yeni is still so prevalent in his life. See how his life turned out after Funke left him........
