House of Rep is asking for more compensation for slain youth corp members

The House of Reps yesterday said the N5million compensation given to the families of slain corpers who lost their lives in the post-election crisis was too small. They are asking for an upward review of the compensation. They also asked the federal government to name streets in the Federal Capital Territory after them and urged governors of the states where the corps members were killed to name prominent streets after them also. Hopefully, this will happen.

Amen!

What is 5Million Naira (No be pounds oh) compared to your childs life????
5M is what some politicians in 9ja "STEAL"... sorry I mean "see" in 2weeks

Money in any amount is inadequate compensation, but If you must use it as a symbolic gesture of sympathy then you cant be insulting people with a paltry 5million Naira.

If they were alive I'm very sure that they would have contributed more than 5million to their own families over a lifetime, even as 9ja economy bad.

Make dem no just vex pessin'

5million is actually toooooooo small, I was angered by the amount, was the president thinking at all when he gave that amount. On the other hand, the Reps can donate their allowances/salaries for two months to the families. What do you think?

Even if they give them all d money in Nigeria, it wont bring back their ward.

That kind of money is so hard to eat/enjoy when u know what it stands for.

The biggest consolation they need is from God rite now, albeit, let the govt do what its suppose to do towards them.

the biggest compensation will be bringing those fools to face the music! and i believe they should be given 500 million. imagine GEJ and no want to spend that much on inaguration but only give .01% of that price to the families? people in Nigeria are hungry and dying everyday, yet they wanna spend all of that one one day for festivities? what are we celebrating? are all of our leaders under some spell? don't they care about how the world sees them? ITS SO SHAMELESS!!!

well spoken u all....@ anon 11:25..very true..it would be hard for the families 2 touch dat money. knowing wat it stands for. SAD

to score political points. please this is not the solution. yes they should give the families more money. most families might not be able to touch it for a while but at least its there to spend on other children.
but i think they should be rather discussing how to prevent similar incidences in the future.

I did say it was too small and a few people on this blog did not agree. 5Million Naira is less than £50,000. Its nothing compared to the lives lost. The equivalent of £250,000 could be okay. The more the whole thing cost Fed Govt of Nigeria, they will be more careful next time.
