New York law enforcement authorities announced some days ago the seizure of more than 10,000 counterfeit DVDs of Nigerian movies after complaints from Nollywood about rampant piracy.
A recent raid of nine Brooklyn stores resulted in the confiscating of over 10,000 bootleg DVD’s. This effort to shut down or reduce the number of counterfeit DVD’s sold in the USA is definitely a success for the entire Nollywood industry.
Jim Iyke was also present at this Press Release on Thursday, and he mentioned that the films were popular outside Africa, because there were a “window to see what home was — a way to follow the progress and the problems.”
The Brooklyn district attorney, Charles J. Hynes, promised Thursday that “people will go to jail,” though his office announced no arrests, and called the bootleggers “parasitic crooks”

Until the piracy mafia ring in Alaba is broken, piracy will continue even as can be seen now that it has now assumed international dimension.
haha is that jim iyke...looks like an old blind man..haha...but the posters of these movies r just funny!piracy is everywhere even worse in the US with all the free websites and technology...Nigeria is lucky that we don't have a lot of computer literate ppl like the developed countries..if not, celebrities wud be beggin since the Nigerian govt. is not doing much.
i take it that this is a joke. what's 10k CDs. at press of a button, a chinese man from back room of his fish and chips shop can churn out 50k CDs per day. what they have done is advertised to pirate cd manufacturers that pirating nollywood movies and 9ja music is lucrative. pirates even have up to date / state of the art computers, software and cd making equipment that are far better that whatever the real nollywood people use.
Nollywood, hv not seen anything, the is just the beginning, so much poverty in the land, i agreed with anon 4.05. a chinese man will even produces 100k cpies with just a press of a bottom,they shld happy dat their are no wicked wizard computer ALABA BOYS, they just nabs just 10,000 copies, they are crying their head off, shud we use ogbono to do skpin rope??
Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Nigerians r talking about piracy and i see Jim Iyke in the mix. With his stupid actions Nigerian movie industry is in big risk. First of all majority of Nigerian movies show case foreign music that the author of those music did not authorize to be played as sound tracks in there videos. E.g. Celine Dion, Kenny G 50cents etc. Once FEDs are aware of this piracy crap they are talking about the next thing for them is to view the tapes and send notices to those artist………. If you view almost 80% of Jim Iykes movies you would see nothing but unauthorized products on it.
Nollywood and the Jim Iykes - great job trying to sustain the originality of your hard work, and hard earned money. I believe that piracy is theft and should be dealt with through the full force of law. Just a word of caution: if you know that that you are a Nigerian actor/actress who has visited the US and have worked in a movie and received payment under the wrong visa status i.e ( B visa status - visiting for pleasure) just be aware that the same threat of the law may be impending - this also goes to the producers who do not file correct petitions for temporary employment. So bros Jim Iyke count your ducks and hope they are in a row now that we have started dealing with US law enforcement... just sayin'
i agree with anon..they copy american songs and even nigerian songs in their movies nobody sues them..and they travel abroad and shoot a movie without proper visa...stupid ppl...piracy ain't going anywhere cuz everyone is doing it indirectly.
