Don't get it twisted, no one is this perfect
This topic here is about women not being at peace with their looks. I feel like the celebrity culture has placed some kind of benchmark on beauty and it is expected that every woman must look in a particular way to be regarded as being beautiful. Some also believe that the pictures of our Celebrities that are on pages of Magazines and the Net are just transient, it's not their everyday look as they may want us to believe.
In this age of advanced photography, professional making up, beauty treatment routine, etc, is it ideal to use these people we see on the Magazine Covers, Internet, as the yardstick of being beautiful?
Most women including myself find it difficult to accept the person we see in the Mirror, this has nothing to do with low self esteem, it is a natural reaction to what one considers as the ideal beautiful woman as being portrayed in the media.
Is it right to have a distorted view about beauty or should we all break the bank before we can have the confidence to consider ourselves beautiful? I once had a Male friend who said he can only judge if a woman is beautiful in the morning, that is before she takes her bath and apply all sorts of make up. I think there is a disconnect between what men consider as beauty and what we women think. I will appreciate your sincere opinion on this topic.* T

its hard for women not to feel insecure about our bodies and looks in today's bling bling world.
i think we should just learn to always do our best to look good at all times in the most affordable way we can. we can change the things we don't like about our looks and learn to be comfortable with the things we cant.
There are truly beautiful women in this world but no one is as "perfect" as what we see on TV and the billboards. When photos are taken, there is an immense amount of photo shopping that goes into producing the photos. Necks are lengthened, waists are slimmed, blemishes are erased, noses are slimmed and skin colors are lightened. I can't say I have not been a victim to feeling insecure about how I look in comparison to the woman on the screen but I always say, if I had the right connection or the right software...my pics would be looking GREAT. If I had the right amount of money, I'd have "perfect" body measurements, with a little nipping and tucking. I will be realistic and stick to keeping my body healthy and fit, taking care of my skin and living my life to the fullest. There is no such thing as the perfect beauty, once we all realize that we will be in a better place.
There's no ideal woman, beauty is still in the eyes of the beholder.
I agree with Myne but it's hard for some to believe that when they only see certain types of people being represented.
THIS PEOPLE HAVE 100'S OF PEOPLE WORKING ON THEIR BODIES..MAKE UP ARTISTS AND SHIT. SO DONT EVEN GET IT TWISTED AND KEEP SHOWING THIS PICTURES. SENDS THE WRONG IMAGE TO AFRICAN GIRLS. IF BEYONCE WAS DARK SKINNED U WONT SHOW HER..SHOW NAOMI CAMPELL..ALEK WOK..STOP WITH THIS YOUR LOCAL MENTALITY OF THINKING ANYTHING LIGHT SKIN WITH LONG HER IS MORE BEAUTIFUL. THATS REALLY WORRYING!!
What keeps me grounded is the fact that I and each person is made in the image of God. There is an ideal beauty thrown in your face every single time, and the truth is nobody looks like that on a regular basis. If we see these celebrities on a regular day, maybe in their houses, they don't look like that. They are just like girls you see around, and many regular girls even look better.
Another thing is, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The good thing is, some men understand what true beauty is about. Women, who don't have the ideal beauty still get married, their husbands find them beautiful, so it's not even a big deal at all. What also gets me is the fact that most of these women that supposely represent the ideal beauty, are the most insecure women, have bad relationships, and men just use them, dump them but not marry them, because nothing substantial except that they are hot, how long will it last?
