ReplyDeleteese Mills are not producing enough rice to feed Makurdi talk less of Benue. I can authoritatively state that they have no presence in South of Nigeria. Name the rice brands you currently consume in your homes and 9 times out of ten imported brands would be the answer. I can compare the rice policy of this government to deliberate economic sabotage. The jobs they talk about is mere fallacy. They have plunged the country into huge debts with the IMF loans they have doled out to so called private investors. At least 45% of rice that is consumed in this country is now smuggled from neighbour. The fact is there is no direct correlation between increase in the duty of rice which discourages importation and increase in the investment seen in the rice production sector. The increase in investment could have been achieved without encouraging smuggling and losing billions in revenue.

ReplyDeleteGreat news, Nigeria should learn to stop importing but export.

ReplyDeletePlease Linda nigerians have been producing rice for ages. This is not the first. The news is a welcome news. But we already have Ebony Rice produce by former Commerce minister Engr Charlse Ugwu. Its also polished and in many shops I know in the south for more than 5years now. So its good we are begining to package our rice like foreign brands. But can we produce enof to feed the nation. Thanks.
