Security challenges: Jonathan summons governors & members of National Security Council

Find the State House press release below...
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has summoned members of the National Security Council to a meeting tomorrow at the Presidential Villa against the background of recent events and developments in the country.
The meeting which will be presided over by President Jonathan is scheduled for 1100 hours.
Those expected at the meeting include Vice President Namadi Sambo, the Minister of Defence, Lt.-Gen Aliyu Gusau, the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.), the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, the Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the State Security Services and the Director-General of National Intelligence Agency.

The meeting of the National Security Council will be followed at 1300 Hours by an enlarged meeting on security developments in the country to which President Jonathan has invited State Governors.

President Jonathan, members of the National Security Council and the state governors will review the security situation in the country as well as ongoing national security measures and operations with a view to determining the best way forward.

President Jonathan reassures all Nigerians and persons living in the country that the Federal Government remains very mindful of its responsibility for the safety of their lives and properties in all parts of Nigeria and will continue to do everything possible to protect them from the scourge of terrorism and insecurity.

The President is particularly concerned about the plight of the young Senior Secondary School girls who were reportedly abducted from their school in Borno State on Monday night and has ordered the military and national security agencies to deploy maximum efforts towards rescuing all of the girls and returning them safely to their parents. He welcomes reports that the military and security agencies have already rescued some of the girls.

President Jonathan deeply regrets the pain, sorrow and anguish brought upon many Nigerian families in recent days as a consequence of recurring security challenges which the nation is contending with.

The President remains convinced that with the patriotic commitment and support of all Nigerians, the country will ultimately overcome its present challenges and move forward in unity and strength.

In this regard, President Jonathan will be pleased to see all politicians in the country exhibiting greater responsibility and patriotism by doing more to support his administration’s sincere efforts to enhance national security rather than trying to build political capital out of the pain and misery of their compatriots.

    2. This day and age in Nigeria really saddens me. Look at the complete mayhem and blood shed in the north and people just go on about their lives simply because its not personally affecting them. I think the solution to this problem would be an outright protest of everything. No Nigerian Idol, no MBGN, no Miss Nigeria, no Big Brother, No FIFA, no World Cup, no airing of entertainment, no red carpets, no events, NOTHING! The entire country needs to come together to let our leaders know we are not sitting with our arms folded.People are dying everyday because of political ulterior motives and nobody living outside of the areas affected seems to care. What difference is the Nyanya bombing from other bombings over the last few years? OH, BECAUSE THEY TARGETED THE NATION'S CAPITAL? If that doesn't serve as a wake up call then I don't know what does. Not only are our leaders a problem but they know the average Nigerian won't do a damn thing about it. HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE, LET YOUR VOICES BE HEARD!
      I SERIOUSLY WEEP FOR NIGERIA!

Na tooday?I beg I beg I beg, onto the next 1,for all I care, all they do is talk and no actions...Boko Haram can obviously not operate successfully in this country if they don't have supports from the leaders or the Elites in the North, its so sad that Nigerians are casualties of the mindless/unGodly games the political class & leaders are playing u & I are puns in the game,Nigeria needs lots of intelligence to win this war and the unthinkable has to be done, let every1 know Nigeria has a Zero level tolerance for terrorism & any vice that endanger human lives, truly Nigeria is at war with this daily killings and innocent lives been killed daily.

In your bid to let us know you are"reportedly" working, you announce such a sensitive meeting.pity this dumb BH are cowards.this is the kind of information that al Qaeda would have used to finish you all.you don't announce the CinC's itinerary like this.granted you didn't mention venue but that's easy to know.

  24. Am really embarrassed by d presidents nonchalant attitude , campaigning barely 24hours of a bomb blast dat took d lives of 88 people. This is d height of inhuman, for those of us in d south chanting power must remain wid us, let's us begin to think twice. First of all our president is not the shoeless boy of yesterday, he. Flys in jets today nd wears not less dan d best shoe ever made, but his conscience has change, imagine a company known as ALUMMINIUM SMELTER COMPANY of nigeria has been awarded to UNited states since last year, has remain shut down nd d masses r dying of idleness, since last year it dis-engaged all its staff multiplying d level of employment, story surrounding it is dat d rift between d president and and Gov of rivers state is behind d delay in handing over process. Why is d president playing number games wid human lives? Why is he playing dumb to d socioeconomic development of our nation? Why is he playing dumb to d rate of unemployment, when there is a smooth way of creating employment, by conducting a competition for d best business proposals than can create not less than 5,000 workforce for each business, CBN can assist tru medium /small scale investment instead of handing over d entire process to Banks which doesn't even give out dis loans to qualifies business proposals without rigorous nd ambiguous process... Enough is enough biko nu. ---_____wendy____
